So I recently activated my second wow account so I could have some fun and have two characters online at the same time. I have one character on Wow Account1 and my boosted character on Wow Account2. Both accounts are using the same battle.net account.
So when first doing this a couple of days ago both characters could see each other without a problem however since my boosted character went through the dark portal and started questing in hellfire I can no longer see him even if my character and my boosted character are standing in the exact same spot.
Have logged into both accounts from the same computer and different computers. Same result
I then created a level 1 character on Wow Account2 and used a level 39 character I already had from Wow Account 1 and again both characters could not see each other.
Both accounts can see other players, however the players Wow Account1 sees is different from the players Wow Account2 sees. It’s almost like they are on different realms.
This happens no matter where in game world I take these guys too. Even if it’s just on a road somewhere outside of any major city.
I’ve cleared my cache and loaded both accounts with no addons. Same result.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve logged a ticket with support but get the feeling they are a little stumped. One reply I got is that its a phasing issue and to try to go outside of a major city and then see if we can see each other. So have done that with the same results.
If you are on a larger server they have “layers”. Once a certain threshold of players is hit the server puts people on a new “layer” your characters are likely just on a different layer from each other. Try to invite them to the same party and then go to each other. Should fix your problem.
edit: Just to clarify inviting a friend (or yourself in this case) to your party then puts you on the same layer.
I agree with the other comments, it’s almost definitely laying doing it (it looks like you’re on Whitemane, they have layers).
As stated already, if your characters are the same faction invite them to a group together.
Layering is server-wide, phasing is not, which is why you probably got that suggestion as that may work in Retail. Support was on the right track with the suggestion, it’s just the Retail suggestion.
For whatever reason when I have my two accounts online at the same time (same bnet account too) my characters are almost always on different layers. I can’t really explain why, and it’s probably luck, but it just happens.
Thank you very much everyone for your quick replies. I had no idea about the layers and this is news to me. I did get the addon NovaWorldBuffs and one Wow Account1 says layer 1 zone 78 and Wow Account2 says No Layers found yet.
Do characters on different layers still see the same chat channels like General chat 1 or LookingforGroup or are those also layer specific?
Does layering still apply if the characters are of different factions? I’m think if some said they say an ally warrior at cords X,Y and some other player goes there he would not be able to see him due to the fact he is on a different layer? Sorry if I’m confusing this or over thinking it.
Yes, layering still applies if the characters are on different factions. They do need to be on the same server. My characters that I talked about earlier are on different factions so there’s no group inviting. It makes it more challenging.
Once you know what layer you’re on you can use Lookingforgroup or your guild etc to request an invite to the other layer.
Yes. You need to find out what layer both characters are on (with NovaWorldBuffs), and by being invited by another player who is on the layer you can get onto that layer.
