Look, I barely play since everyone on my friends list quit but I was excited to watch that Ion thing so I did.
During the interview, Ion said that 1 ilv corresponds to a 1% increase in damage and health. That’s a misrepresentation of the issue because it makes it sound like there’s only a 23% difference between a fresh 197 character and a 220 character.
My rogue was at 30k hp at ilv 197 and is at 38.5k at 220. That’s a 28% increase.
The starter set puts me at about 22% verse whereas my 220 puts me at 32% verse. That’s a 14% damage increase due to the trinket set bonus on top of the 1% damage per ilv (mostly due to agility and weapon DPS).
So, let’s say that we are actually looking at a 37% damage difference and a 28% health difference. Add to this that your damage reduction increased by 5%, so it’s really more like a 34% increase in effective health.
37% more damage and 34% more effective health. So what?
Break points, that’s what.
A 6 second kidney shot might be enough to kill a monk 100 to 0 at 30k hp and 22% verse, but not at 41k hp and 32% verse with cheat death conduits like ooze shield etc etc etc.
If you are below the break point, you lose opportunities for counterplay. The larger the percent difference between bursting character and a defending character, the lower the higher the break point is.
I don’t understand how he can be that flippant about it. Again, I don’t care. I’m not playing right now. I did arenas casually in BFA for elite sets and haven’t really done much outside casual ranked BGs with friends. But damn. My more geared characters can delete new toons without using cooldowns and apparently that’s “just fine” by Ion because its “only a 23% difference.” when it’s 1. more than that and 2. enough to kill people without them being able to react.

Don’t forget to count 6% stamina bonus from covenant that you may not have had at 197 ilvl.
I have 204 ilvl paladin and 223 ilvl paladin, both prot.
204 has 51k hp.
223 has 59950 hp.
This is with stamina increase for being a tank. (65%?)
So it’s close to 5k hp for 20 ilvl.

I’ve played so little in the past few months I forgot about that lol.

I think he was more referring to PvE vs PvP.
I am convinced PvP balance is a foreign concept to them and as such something they do not even bother with.

PvP is a mess yeah. Big mess.
220 vs 190-200 ilvl is a stomp for most part.
PvE tho, no issues.

This is correct. He is talking about pve output.
PvP is much more complicated. A 200 ilvl character could be wearing full vers gear and a 226 ilvl character could be wearing no vers gear. The amount of variables goes up considerably.

Bub.
Math.
1.01 to the power of 23 is closer to 26%. That’s just how math works.

The interview was specifically about the amount of stats on an item per item level and how it changes with item level.
You need same stats at both item levels to compare.
Swapping stats and other variables wasn’t part of the interview, and takes the conversation out of context.

You misunderstood the context like most on these forums it seems.

We need to record this or copy paste at this rate lol
He’s looking at it exclusively from a PvE perspective. If PvP wasn’t extremely burst-centric and was all about sustained damage Ion would also have been completely correct.
But if you acknowledged that it was from a PvE/sustained perspective you wouldn’t have anything to be outraged about.

Who cares? Everyone has access to the gear. This is a non issue - useless whining.

Ion doesn’t do PvP. Average players are not in the picture.
The only target demographic for the expansion is elites, who are rewarded accordingly, as they deserve to be treated like gods and given all the special accommodations they deserve.

What was said in the interview was incredibly pointless.
1% in a vacuum has nothing to do with how the game actually plays.
And it obviously completely excluded PvP.
So why even say it?
This is the game equivalent of telling people a feather and a penny fall at the same speed, but only in a vacuum. It’s like okay but if we lived in a vacuum we’d have no air so we’d all suffocate and nobody cares about a feather at that point.

Uhh…
Where did this agenda come from? This expansion punishes hardcore players WAAAAAAAAAY more than casual players, objectively.

Everyone knows the Mythic raiding bourgeoisie runs the show behind the scenes. Like some sort of Shadow Cabal of developers

Actually Karen, some ppl love random bgs in game. You can’t even play in honor gear against someone 220+.
The mongoloids wanting to come in and flex is so much fun rn in randoms.
Don’t even get me started on party sync w/pvp…
