$16 an hour, starting, to be a test analyst for WoW

Cali doesnt count. They are in the US but they are 100% not the US. Its a bad example

I live in a Non-right to work state. We also have rent control. There is an actual cap on what places can charge for a 1, 2 or 3 bedroom.

Everytime I visit Cali I legit feel like not only in another country but in another world/parallel reality

I’ve always wondered if you can see it if you fly out of LAX, but they probably have flights take off towards the ocean rather than over the Inglewood suburbs

Lol you can actually make bank where I’m at, walking dogs.

I want to say 50% to 66% of people in this area own a dog, it’s a very high number.

There was a time I was between jobs, and I started to walk dogs through an app, the money was actually pretty good and I could choose my own hours and whatnot, I was surprised.

There is a shortage of dog walkers in this area, so they can be picky and still make good money, because the number of dogs here is only increasing.

There’s almost as many dog parks as there are parks for children here.

For millenials, dogs might as well be kids, I think people are choosing to be dog-parents instead lol. It’s just easier to raise a dog than a kid right now.

Dont joke about dog walkers. Thats a very lucrative Business in downtown NYC and they make a LOT

And having 6 roommates to share the cost of housing.

Blizzard has a reputation of paying rock bottom salary to employees, then laying them off when they get enough experience to deserve a raise. And hiring new ones at that point.

Not every company is willing to sacrifice productivity by constantly churning their employee base to minimize payroll. Other companies have decided it’s not in their best interest to constantly have to retrain their employees to save a buck.

They announced a while back they were phasing out remote work and letting everybody who didn’t want to move to the area quit. That was the same zoom call where Mike said he was suffering as much as any of the low paid employees who were going to be hit hard by this. But it was said that the whole point of RTO was to decrease payroll by getting employees to leave.

Randomly decreasing payroll by making working conditions bad results in the best employees leaving. But Blizzard has long been into the short term profit spike at the expense of the long term.

I think SNA and LAX take off towards the ocean since it’s safer than trying to fly over the mountains nearby, given they need to return to the airport for whatever reason.

My parents live in North Cali. It is vastly different social culture from Central and South Cali. Most of my remote work comes from SoCal. So often have to travel down (we’ll see now with the recent news I got how that goes.) And can confirm, a strange little planet SoCal is. Like almost most of the population was possessed by Ed Wood and the out-of-body spirit of the living Tommy Wiseau.

I was a bank teller for 3 years and made just over that. Was opening accounts, credit cards, and all transactions. The stress was high.

I mean…it’s easy to take away limited impressions if you just visit, hit up tourist-ey spots and otherwise get most of your impressions of the state from TV, movies and the news.

There’s a lot of California, and basically every kind of place that there can be is covered. Dense urban areas? Yes. Loose suburban areas? Yes. Rural communities? Yes. Mountains, desert, ocean, forest, plains? Yes. Conservative areas? Yes. Progressive areas? Yes.

These days I’m in Oregon that nominally has rent control, but mostly it’s just that you can’t raise the rent more than 10% year over year without 90 days notice.

Every flight out for me heading east took off over the Santa Monica pier area and turned back. I think they regulate all outgoing that way.

There’s the mountains to the east that can have an effect on smog, among other things, which may make this the best solution for the air traffic controllers.

As a result of the student lending program, which was designed to give predatory lenders control over students for a lifetime.

Before I got into animations was a Licensing Specialist Assistant for the Funeral and Cemetery Board.

Growing up, I never really knew what stress or being in a stressful work position was until face-to-face with grieving and upset people. Like Retail / Teller positions, but you’re the one facing the public, telling them that the City/State declined assistance for their loved ones burial / cremation grant. Yeah… The start of becoming an Introvert was when I took that position.

it’s also ideal for takeoff. You get the ocean breeze creating lift. More fuel efficient to gain altitude, then whip it around and fly east at 35,000 ft.

My youngest is going to graduate high school soon, and he’s going to start with community college in the fall while he figures out what he enjoys doing. He knows that we can’t afford a traditional college education.

A big college loan isn’t the only option, though. I went the community college route using Pell style grants, and it’s been working for me since the 90’s. It’s just a matter of getting the right training.

It’s the classic: Can’t get a job without experience, and can’t get experience without a job conundrum.

Community Colleges need more credit for what they provide lol. Got my AA in Archeology and Thanatology at mine. What helped me get the Licensing Specialist Assistant for the Funeral and Cemetery Board position before going into animation. Plus took a good chunk of the other required credits (English and Physics) off that too lol.

That makes sense.

I figured that they did it for a reason, and fuel efficiency sounds like a good candidate!

I make plane parts for a living, so this type of information is interesting to me. Thanks.:slightly_smiling_face:

State schools are fairly cheap, especially if they target the working class. Less courses overall, but the classes are smaller, and focus on getting you in and out efficiently. 2 years at a community college, then 2 years elsewhere is a plan that works for many. Grants go further too.

(I’m thinking I back to school at 30+. Career change.)

California imo is 2 states. Southern Cal and Northern Cal. I liked Northern Cal a lot but Im sorry after working and living in SoCal for just over a year? Yeah its just not the US. Id argue that its even part of this world  Its kind of like Florida its its own entity with its own rules.

Imo “over qualified” is an excuse. If a person applies for employment and they’re over qualified it means they cant find work and they’re willing to take a drop in pay for survival. Employers don’t like hiring “over qualified” because if a promotion is due, “over qualified” is the obvious choice or the employer will face legal repercussions.
