while i agree on this but this is a double edge sword here then the cost of living will go up and this will never end.
or people will get replaced with machines. then the people who maintains the machines will be replaced with machine that will maintain them.
Should honestly be talked about more than what it is. I feel there’s a large chunk of people that think they’re irreplaceable by machines
Nobody is denying anyone. Nobody is saying don’t enjoy yourself either within your financial means. That said if you are complaining about not setting aside any savings while spending $180 on an optional “fun” activity then priorities
You’re not wrong, however, millennials (may) believe they’re entitled to everything their parents worked for, without putting any effort into it.
FYI, I don’t come from money, I work at Burger King.
I believe this is the root cause of a lot of social issues in the US right now, the overwhelming belief that one is entitled to something.
I couldn’t imagine taking such a low paying job… maybe if it was a side gig and I just played WoW to “test” it lol…
It’s not an entry level position and it requires a bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience.
The pay is insulting. I pay much more for people who sweep floors and pick up trash and that is the caliber of work those individuals are capable of doing. Even they are smart enough to know you can’t live on $16/hr.
link to the qualifications, thanks.
I had friends in 2011 that worked as playtesters for Blizz and living 4 people in a 1 bedroom apt was the only way they could make it while living in Cali… and a couple years later Blizz still sacked most of QA because it was too costly for them
To be fair there are perks, but they arent the kind of thing that would have value to a lot of people.
Click the link yourself.
There isn’t one for the entry level spot.
Of the 4 jobs listed, 1 is entry level. Which is why it starts at such a low pay.
It doesn’t matter if you make $5 or $20 an hour. Your job is going to be gone when machines are viable either way.
all those who fought for the $15 have won.
well done, folks. we now have $15.
in my state we have no such law.
Or do you believe others should have their lives “harder” / “as hard as” your life experiences?
I believe frozen pizzas shouldn’t be $12
16 isn’t so bad depending on where you live or what your life obligations and situations are.
I’d do this job if they had remote work, but I think a lot of companies are shying away from that now?
Wow, really? That’s not a lot to be paid for such an important job.
No remote work, and you must be able to work at the campus. So, largely, you’re going to live in Orange Country. And OC is one of the most expensive counties in the state and country…and the counties nearby are more expensive than OC. I guess you can live in Tustin, home of the Microcenter Flagship store and… that’s all, really.
For reference, $16/hr is ~$33,3000 (~$2800/month). Your overall income tax (State + Federal) will be about 20%. This leaves you with ~$26,400. Rent for a 2/2 apartment in OC is around $3200 (this is on the low end); $1600 per month. This means you’re spending over 70% of your monthly income on rent alone. Your utilities will be about $100 per month. Your food will be, at best, $100 per month (and this would be incredibly tough). Your car insurance is, at best $100 per month. Your gasoline/petrol, is likely $100 per month, at best. Your internet and phone will be, at best, $100 per month.
You’re now at $2100 of $2200 of your monthly income. We haven’t even factored in Health Insurance, 401k contributions, nor general budgeting for expenses, such as soaps/cleaners (dish, laundry, toilet), clothing, and leisure.
The “living wage” in Orange Country is ~$30/hr for single adult, no children. (~$5300 per month before taxes)
This is giga boomer energy.
My only debt is my mortgage and a few thousand on my car. I didn’t go to college and make $63/hour in an extremely niche (govt) field of pharmacy. I think I’m doing okay.
$16/hour at 2080 hours a year is 33,280 before taxes. Generally after benefits and taxes you’ll take home around 2/3 of your gross, leaving you $22,297 a year net income. Picking maybe the most generic city in America, Columbus, OH, the average rent is $1495 according to Zillow making rent and only rent leaves someone $4357 a year or $363/month to live off of. Well you have to have a car - the average USED car payment according to yahoo finance in 2024 is $533, which now you’re in the hole without car insurance, a cell phone, renters insurance, internet (not even going to add cable), utilities, gas, or you know, food.
$16 isn’t a living wage. It’s a simple as that. Now buckle yourself up by your bootstraps and kindly exit the rock you live under.
