Yes, the comments Blizzard made were almost certainly in reference to the weekly chest reward only. There will be a casual path to getting and upgrading conquest armor but (as you said) it’s going to take longer than someone doing rated pvp.
Yeah, I know. I’m the guy that posted about it. But, again, for those who can’t seem to understand the implications of this (not you).
But, I don’t think it reduces the rating you need. I think it just ups the item level you can upgrade to. So, how exactly it is going to work is up in the air but this is clearly a path for “casuals” to upgrade conquest gear (as is, could change cuz beta).
If you are in beta, show me how conquest upgrades work. Show me how much unrated gear can be upgrade with renown. Show me that gating from rating is only referring to the weekly chest.
Given how royally they screwed over PVP gearing the last 4 years and how pathetic the first PvP vendor was, I think I can safely assume it won’t be great.
Eh, unless you see that I made a comment in a thread, I probably didn’t actually see it. Only on the forums during work, so I tend to stick to threads I was already active in.
The systems aren’t testable on beta ATM, but for what is in, there is a strong indication that there will be a casual pathway for upgrading conquest gear.
I hope you are right and that is how it will turn out. Seems like an afterthought at this point. I know development takes time and I know this stuff has been worked on for a while, but to not even be able to test how this core system works until mere weeks before launch is disheartening.
It’s so frustrating to me, that had they just left WoD gearing in place, they would have saved a lot of development time and had a far better PVP Gearing experience the last 4 years. And who knows they might have even iterated and improved it. But they have started from scratch 3 times now and nothing is looking as good as it was.
I’m concerned, and it’s not just pvp. Many of the covenant campaigns are broken where you hit a dead end. Balance between covenant abilities and legendaries is bad.
There will be a character wipe coming out with a new build in the next couple of days. Hopefully, a lot of stuff gets fixed but, right now, this isn’t ready to go live.
I’ve talked about this before. I think it’s pride. When new people take over they don’t want to admit that someone else nailed it and just use what they set up. They have to “fix” things that aren’t broken.
There are only four on the PvP vendor and that includes specializations you might not be playing. The dev post is misleading unless they are planning on expanding those choices. I’m not sure if you will be able to get them as “end of match” rewards in PvP… but, if so, it’s probably going to be tied to your rating.
In all of the time I’ve been playing on the beta I’ve only seen one conduit drop and that came from killing a rare elite in the world. That said, I haven’t been doing dungeons or arena skirmishes (since none of my friends got into the beta).
Conduits might be one thing that “casual only” pvpers get hosed on. I didn’t think about it before, but I’d actually be far more concerned about conduits than gear if you are casual pvp only and don’t want to do any pve.
To elaborate, conduits are more like loot than essences. They are drops and the higher the content you are doing the higher level of conduit you can get. There is a way to upgrade your conduits with a currency from the Maw (stygia) but it looks like it will be time inefficient and a bit of a pita.
