120Hz 1080P VS 60Hz 4K

I’ve got an LG OLED 65 inch I play WoW on and noticed if I bring down the res to 1080 I can use 120HZ which feels better vs 4K 60HZ, which would you prefer if given that option? My specs are 12700K with an RTX 3070 TI

I dunno if you’ll miss much by dropping 4k in WoW, even on a screen of that size, because it just doesn’t have that level of texture detail.

Higher refresh all the way.

I really enjoy playing WoW at 144hz, so if you don’t mind the 1080p, go for it.

4k is a meme man just get a 1440p monitor, looks good enough will last you at least 5 years of constant 60fps+ on newer release in powerful hardware at the time of purchase. you save a lot of money

In my experience, refresh rate is much more noticeable.

And yes, 120hz & 60hz is a HUGE difference, i play on 144hz.

But be aware that it’s a double edged sword, its THAT GOOD. You’ll find lower framerates considered ‘high’ uncomfortable. Especially 60

Once you play high refresh rate it stops being an improvement. 60fps will now look like 30fps used to look.

A panel that size will have massive visible pixels at 1080p though. Honestly it’s too large.

On a 65 inch monitor? I think 4k. 60hz is kinda bleh though

I thought so, just wanted to be sure.

It’s personal preference but for WoW specifically I’d go for resolution over framerate.

WoW’s texture detail isn’t anything to write home about, but the higher resolution makes for significantly sharper and more legible UI text and the ability to make out things much further in the distance before they turn to incoherent blobs of pixels.

WoW’s combat isn’t demanding enough to really benefit from the higher framerate so the only benefit is it feeling smoother.

Personally I run WoW at 2560x1440 on a 240hz 27" monitor. It rarely runs at a full 240hz because I have settings turned up though… it usually runs at 144hz or above which is fine because G-Sync stops any tearing that’d normally result in. It’s a nice middleground between sharpness and smoothness.

Yep. I play WoW at 2560x1440@144hz on a 27" Asus screen. Windows elements are a little small, but it’s the best screen I’ve ever owned. Using DisplayPort.

Yeah at 65" 1080p is going to give you pixels the size of Mega Bloks.

144z > 4k.

I can’t go back to 60hz monitors, ever…

I feel like people have wildly varying levels of sensitivity when it comes to framerate. While the difference between 60hz, 120hz, 144hz, and 240hz are all pretty apparent to me I switch between them all day (work from home setup has dual 60hz monitors plus 120hz laptop screen, gaming setup has a 240hz screen, TV is 60hz) and it doesn’t bother me at all.

People most certainly do. I can’t perceive rates above 144hz enough that it makes any difference to me, while some people will swear by 240hz.

I don’t doubt that for them, it makes a noticeable difference. Just like some people can’t seem to perceive the difference between 60hz and 144hz.

does that monitor have displayport in?

I shell out the extra dough and get 144hz 4k
I like to have my cake AND eat it, thank you very much.

(In your case you might not get that but you still get infinite contrast from oled is also pretty sweet so rock on \m/)
