11700k benchmarks: can't even out perform its own last generation

Is this a joke?

Being out performed by AMD ryzen is one thing, but not being able to do better than the previous two generations is even worse.

Intel is seriously releasing these products and people expect to buy them because ā€œmature platformā€?

Canā€™t wait to see some of the tech YouTubers take a swing at these chips in their video reviews

If the people of a couple of years ago were still around theyā€™d try to say something positive about this

This is what Intel promised, their new architecture that was meant to be for 10nm, but got backported to 14nm because they couldnā€™t get 10nm out

Is this what Alder Lake going to be like in the future

Iā€™m ā€œone of those peopleā€ who championed Intel back before Zen 3.

But I also am not the guy whoā€™s so blinded by fanboyism to reject facts.

10th gen was fine in the face of Zen 2, it is lackluster regarding Zen 3, and 11th gen from what we see here is just embarrassing.

Uh maybe you havenā€™t been paying attentionā€¦ this is INTEL. They have had flaws for YEARS, no itā€™s not a joke, itā€™s an aging platform that hasnā€™t been ā€˜goodā€™ for several generations.

Ryzen is eating their lunch for a couple of years nowā€¦ So no NOT a joke. Not surprised AT ALL. Intel lies and they basically take a CPU, benchmark it and then proclaim it to be a certain modelā€¦ based upon benchmark.

I was on a team for a hardware company, we had to test Intel Processors. We complained Intel did nothing. They are too big to do anything about. This is in the 90ā€™s when P60 \ P90 came out. The same time the math co-processors were flawedā€¦ guess how long the processors have been flawed?

Google: ā€˜Intel History of CPU flawsā€™. I know you donā€™t believe meā€¦ RIGHT NOW there is a 5 year unfixable flaw, this keeps repeat every generation of Intel.

They have NEVER been fixed. Go read any Windows, Linux processor bulletin about Intel, they are ALL flawed even 2021ā€¦ The OS has to make up for their mistakesā€¦ through software and certain branch avoid techniquesā€¦ Itā€™s been there this whole time, but people just ignore or basically forgive itā€¦ Intel Processors are expensive but they are the biggest chip manufacturer.

Go look at Britannica encyclopedia: Pentium flaw

I am making the switch to AMD Ryzen you should too. Intel is a JOKE.

There is a running joke: At Ford quality is job 1. At Intel quality is .99827621

Intel has been the top dog in terms of performance since the Core 2 Duo days until just the end of last year with the release of Ryzen 5000 series. Thatā€™s almost 15 years of being on top.

Yeah, they have some security issues, but itā€™s 99% irrelevant to most users.

If Iā€™m being honest, the small security flaws are less meaningful to the end-user than the impact of Ryzen memory and stability problems.

Donā€™t get me wrong, Iā€™m happy AMD came back into the game and became relevant again, or weā€™d still be on quad cores.

Bought some popcorn. Now I have a place to eat popcorn and have a free show.

Though I kinda wish the usb problems would get resolved already. I really donā€™t like playing usb roulette when I had my Amd setup

I had a Cyrix Chip produced by IBM 25 years agoā€¦ been waiting for this chip or AMD to prevail since then. Intel is a horrid company, they keep getting a pass every yearā€¦ there are problems at every level but as you said Users donā€™t careā€¦ they keep buying their products so no one says anything.

Back then games were reliant on hardware compatibility and those chips were not 100% compatible. DOS would show a disclaimer ā€˜This CPU is not 100% compatible with this gameā€™. Or some similar message.

The platform we enjoy today was designed and engineered by LIM, Lotus Intel and Microsoftā€¦ There is an inherit partnership between Microsoft and Intel for decades. There are many critics that believe Intel has been purposely interfering with the success of AMD for all these years. Ever wonder why you canā€™t buy a mainstream computer with AMD processors? You can but you have to look hard to find them. Go to any corporation they ALL use Intelā€¦ there is a reason for thisā€¦ but itā€™s not due to stability issues for AMD, those are lies perpetrated by certain companies with stock in Intelā€¦ Itā€™s all politics.

Psst

I bought an ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Wifi for $259 and an i9-10900k for $400.

Cheaper than my chosen 5900x/B550 layout interestingly, and these chips trade blows most of the time without a clear winner despite many reviews.

It seems Ryzen does really well in synthetics, but in actual games their synthetic lead shrinks significantly.

Has there ever been as big of a disparity between the same gen of mobile+desktop Intel CPUs in terms of improvement over the last gen? 11th gen mobile (tiger lake) seems pretty decent, but rocket lakeā€¦ yikes. Tiger lake is 10nm so I guess thatā€™s how much difference node can make.

Yeah, Coffeelake and 1st gen Ryzen. It was like 40% lol, and yet people still defended AMD.

But the 12 cores!

We will see if I can get my hands on the dtx motherboard from asus.

If not Iā€™ll just sell it

The way I see it, the difference in gaming even at 1080p non-GPU limited between 10th gen and Zen 3 is likeā€¦10% at most overall. Probably less than that.

Even HUB, who is very AMD biased, shows at 1080p, the 5950x (and below) is dead even with the 10900k with an RTX 3090 - with only a few titles like Death Stranding being particularly in favor of AMD.

I am absolutely skipping out on DDR5 and the 12th gen big/little design because as Zaridoradrae so astutely pointed out, Intel is good at making flaws.

So right now Iā€™m just choosing the flaws I already know, LOL.

Yet that was proof that Intel was robbing you innovation and they couldnā€™t even keep up after 1st gen caught them with their pants down.

Yeah, and right now itā€™s Intel with the ā€œmore (but slower) cores for less money!ā€

So weird.

Itā€™s unfortunate that 1st gen Ryzen aged so damned poorly, though.

Hereā€™s SOTTR, which is one AMD and more cores seems to love vs the olā€™ dirty 8700k:

https://static.techspot.com/articles-info/2068/bench/SotTR-p.webp

With the OC, thatā€™s a 50% delta between the 1600 and 8700k.

Unlike Intel they kept Ryzen going up over time, I knew this even at their first generation and people then wouldnā€™t believe me.

Iā€™ll probably ending up building a second comp. carrying this desktop back and forth isnā€™t sitting well with me or maybe I should just swap back to air cooling.

And yet, here we areā€¦Ryzen 5000 is more efficient iā€™ll give you that. But it is still not the definitive fatality in gaming. It is simply now slightly better/in parity while being more efficient (and more expensive)

Hopefully they keep it up. At this rate it seems Zen 4 will be that bullet.

11th gen doesnā€™t seem like it is, LOLā€¦this article basically is showing 10th gen being better.

it most likely will if rumors claim 29% ipc vs zen 3

https://www.techpowerup.com/278321/amd-zen-4-reportedly-features-a-29-ipc-boost-over-zen-3

Its what happens when intel kept reusing 14nm countless times, coffee lake was proof that they were close to maxing 14nm out to its potential. Should had gotten 10nm out sooner and they could have been the better chip today.
