That would be nice, annoying that I can’t play with any of my friends.
Sounds like you just invite people from the other faction and queue. I wonder if they put you on the faction with less participation or if it just throws you on the faction of the party leader
I just want everybody merc moded to the party leader’s faction.
Keeps the immersion alive while letting everybody play with their friends.
Everybody wins.
I’m going to be immensely bummed out if they completely mix the factions with this because some of us actually still like H vs A, and unrated BGs are the only real place it makes sense to keep it besides War Mode both gameplay and story wise. (Even the tooltips say “the other faction” too for a reason.)
I did pop on PTR to try and test this and inviting a Horde player and queing didn’t put the mercenary mode buff on them, but if they are going that route, it likely wouldn’t apply until everybody’s inside the instance. Not gonna be able to get 20 people online at 1am to actually test it.
Kind of wish we’d get some clarification.
the thing is merc mode is not popular. people don’t like their race, racial, and transmog changing.
Guys faction does not matter in the current expansion.
I hope they mix the factions
And people also don’t like being forced to play on a faction they didn’t pick either.
I picked Alliance because that’s the faction I wanted to fight for.
I hope they don’t.
Well, you’ll still be fighting on the Alliance side. It’s every now and then a Horde being a traitor will join you in the fight, on your side. It works out whether they do the merc thing or not. You’ll always be fighting for the side you want, so you’re good.
We have people popping various races anyway atm with that race change toy. So I fight for the Alliance sometimes side by side with a Tauren (who is actually not a Tauren, but looks like one!).
It’s a good thing they are implementing. I can see your point, though…
if its based on your group leader, then this is an opt in system, if you just don’t want to see the opposite faction races on your team, its too late for that, the atomic recalibrator is rather popular.
it’s pvp, if it’s red it’s dead, the actual gate you leave and faction you play for is irrelevant to the actual experience.
in general the only complaint to this with some merit is that players may assume they are on the wrong team, but this passes after a while, you can hit your banner to see your faction. in fact it would be nice if they automatically popped your highest banner toy when entering and rezzing, that way you know which team you are on.
Im actually curious how this is goin to work too, depending how they do it might be a make or break for all battleground communities…especially the epic bgs communities.
I appreciate the accurate title.
Bad take, faction fantasy is one of the last things this game has going in it for PvP immersion.
I mean that battle is already lost.
Everything in the game is cross faction now from m+ to raid to rated pvp in other words everything blizzard thinks is important.
The story in this game has long moved on from the faction conflict so thats out to.
unrated pvp and open world content are the last bastions of faction gameplay but faction gameplay is always bad in every game ever just look at new world. One faction became a little dominant and then it snowballed to where only 1 faction was really even playable because it was so dominant over the others.
In the case of this game for a long time it was horde that was dominant and if you were not horde you were pretty much locked from content because all the high players were over there… which was trash gameplay. Now people can play what they want and not be kneecapped for it.
It’s a good thing I pretty much exclusively do War Mode then.
