Never fun to read a big nerf hammer come down, even if I rarely actually notice the difference in play. But I would expect that once hero talents are stirred into the mix it will blow up these pre-hero-talent balance passes anyway?
Well on the bright side…it looks like we’ll be getting the talent tree we’re supposed to have? Maybe?
They were absolutely needed.
True Blizzard problem resolution regarding healthstones would be to disable them entirely until a fix is deployed.
ffs blizzard… fix the healthstones!
To be fair, mortal strike on a geared warrior is regularly critting for well over a million damage in pve. A 1.3 million crit, on a 6 cooldown ability, which is hasted. That is extremely powerful. Not saying I don’t want warriors to have love cause I do. But the current mortal strike is a bit crazy.
The worst part of these nerfs is BM was overperforming due to bugged talents. They could have just fixed the talents and moved on. Instead, they nerfed the spec heavily, leaving BM in a position where once the bugs are fixed it will be early Dragonflight all over again. Dead last by a large margin and require multiple 4-5% aura buffs to bring it up even with second to last.
I think this is what the change was for. They were not working right and when fixed they were overpowered once they began scaling with attack power and Mastery.
- Fixed an issue preventing Flanking Strike’s pet damage from scaling with the Hunter’s attack power.
- Fixed an issue preventing Flanking Strike and Kill Command from scaling with Hunter’s Mastery.
So the tank changes are coming to live/retail?
That is some confirmation that the patch was released early for the sake of the deadline. Are the deadlines too short or is the team incapable of meeting their goals?
This is going to be painful.
Probably the same time they fix the rogue class hall bug and allow Chromie Time to scale to 70…so I’d imagine November or so.
- CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN
- Fixed an issue that caused the exit button to disappear during the Value Added Services process after running into an error.
- Fixed an issue with the character list in the AddOn panel going off screen.
- When attempting to Enter World with a character that has a Gear Update available, a popup will provide context about how to switch realms to receive the update.
nothing about giving us a way to disable this trash ui and go back to what it was before? no word on if you even see that people hate it and are quitting because of it? give us some feedback on how much we hate it and or why you ruined the character selection screen and if you’re going to do anything about it before the people who play the most alts quit for good
So there is rampant misperception out there that BM hunter was super strong in beta content due to over-tuned talents and ‘deserved’ the heavy nerf bat. Here are the facts. In ST, BM was ridiculously overpowered in beta due to two factors.
- List item
One was a bug to Laceration that attributed 100% of pet critical strike damage instead of the intended 8%. This led to Laceration attributing between 15-20% of BM hunters overall damage instead of the intended 2-3%. In the current changes, the laceration bug is fixed and dropped from contributing 15% to 8%. This alone removes a significant portion of the bloated damage from BM hunters in ST.
- List item
The second, and perhaps bigger driver, of BM’s absurd numbers was a new 2 point talent called Basilisk’s Collar which buffs pet damage based on the number of DoTs on a target by 10%. In ST we were able to maintain 5 dots fairly easily which increased the pet damage (BM’s main damage driver) by 50% and led to insanely high BM hunter damage. Basilisk’s Collar was not touched by the dev’s instead they choose to massively nerf pet damage abilities instead.

Snapshots of raid logs and theory crafting have the laceration bug fix coupled with these pet damage nerfs as a 30% overall correction to BM hunter output. This drops the BM’s ST damage from top to below mid, roughly a 300K nerf to damage. Exacerbating this was a concurrent nerf to the only workable hero talent tree for BM hunters, Pack Leader, which tacks on another 4% overall ST damage reduction.

It is important to note that the tuning done here was to bring BM single target in line. In multi-target environments, BM hunters damage throughput was comparatively middle of the pack at best due largely in part to the reduced impact of Basilisk Collar on damage amplification. As Tarlo and others have pointed out multiple times to deaf Dev ears, the number of DoTS that can be applied in multi-target situations is typically around 2, a 20% damage increase, and requires time to apply. This fact alone should have been a major clue to what should have done to fix BM hunter’s single target problem but was ignored.

The impact of the current round of nerfs on BM AoE ability cannot be understated. While we should be near to below mid in ST content, we are projected by sims and theory crafting to be near the bottom in AoE. In practice, BM’s continued weakness in self healing and survivability comparative to other classes coupled with well below average AoE damage will make it one if not the most undesirable class in any higher level M+ content.

Just so this is more feedback and not just a rant, here are some alternative fixes. 1) Revert changes to both Pack Leader and damage dealing abilities. 2) Bring the damage amplification of Basilisk Collar down from 10% per DoT to 4% per DoT. 3) Increase BM’s AoE damage components to compensate for the loss of BC damage. 4) Address BM’s abysmal self sustain either by adjusting Den Recovery so that mend pet provides a leech component back to the hunter or or by making the Dark Ranger talent Embrace the Shadow more effective 5) Rework Dark Ranger talent tree. This is perhaps the most obvious change that could be implemented in the game. The shadow damage component of Dark Ranger even with the 100% buff to Black Arrow/Withering Fire is still ridiculously weak. Couple that with the fact that it tries to synergize with Kill Shot (both Death Shade and Shadow Assassin hero talents) which is itself a poorly optimized and tuned hunter talent while forcing us into a Call of the Wild build which massively devalues Kill Shot in every CoTW window. Dark Ranger is simply a mess.
Nice you increased revenge damage , the self healing prior was just overhealing so nerfing that is fine I guess.
AHAHAHAHA TAKE THAT PALLYS hehe
This is all on beta right?
is this just catching prepatch up to beta or is there other stuff?
You forgot to implement mount-specific flight styles and druid flight form toggle for steady flight vs sky riding. ffs.
Coming to a live realm near you next Tuesday.
