10.2 Mistweaver Monk Tierset Concerns

you forget to mention that wowhead or icyveins doesn’t even have a single caster build in sight. they dont even give you the option to for off-meta builds sad

You were never slandered for wanting to play a caster monk. You got called out because for months and months you started thread after thread claiming the caster build was numerically better while not being able to provide a single ounce of support.

Unless and until Blizzard changes the design philosophy, the caster build will always be worse. While it can pull the hps, I cannot add the dps the fistweaver build does. This means fistweaving is the better build, period. It’s also irrelevant for 95% of the playerbase. Again, you’re just arguing with people to argue.

Technically speaking it was still a hybrid melee healer since (even though underpowered) SotC was a talent option in Legion.

If I had the talent points to spare and Tear wasn’t on a choice node with Rising Mist I’d pick it in a heartbeat; That effect would be really strong with a wide ReM coverage.

Isn’t this what is being done right now though? A melee focused build is implementing ranged healing aspects through Clouded Focus to do the most competitive HPS possible. Even in M+ there are still times where you would have to play from ranged and use your abilities that do not have melee requirements on them.

If anyone is telling you this just ignore them. You’re not bad for playing whichever build you’d like to. You can still play extremely well mechanically on a build. I myself am guilty of this in the past as I have said in Peak of Serenity when responding to a question that “mistweaver cannot play without rising mists”. Although I still support this I am mostly referring to raid and referring to being as competitive as possible.

The reason for this is mostly due to historic underperforming from the spec whenever it was labeled as a “ranged” spec. Mistweaver was the worst healer in the game in: Emerald Nightmare, Trial of Valor, Nighthold, Tomb of Sargeras, Antorus, Battle for Dazar’alor, and The Eternal Palace where the playstyle was exclusively ranged. Mistweaver wasn’t the worst performing healer in 1 out of the 8 raid run it had before Rising Mists became a thing. I can definitely understand the frustration that may arise from any mention of a “ranged” playstyle when you consider this.

I just find caster MW isnt what M+ really needs. You want to apply your class debuff which requires you to dmg, and in M+ you will have to use melee abilities to hit high uptime on this. Your interrupt (amazing for m+) requires you to be in melee as well. Your aoe stun (again amazing for m+) requires you to be in melee.

Viable isnt the word i would use for caster mw, more like mediocre? Like no one will die, but you arent contributing as much as other ranged healers, or as a fistweaver. CF/Yulon can hit stupid high numbers, its just that in m+ you dont need 350k+ hps and thus the profile doesnt mesh well.

At the end of the day, play how you like. Just know that playing non meta playstyles will always land you snarky comments, it doesnt matter which role/spec you play. Its only a problem if the group fails due to it, but for most people they wont see content that would cause that issue

WoW players are so wildly inconsistent lol. Every time I finally join the bandwagon and say “okay, fine, it’s okay for tier sets to force your talent choice,” they flip the script and say it isn’t okay.

Pick!!
Bc lots of tier sets do this. You think lightning build ele shaman fans like being pigeonholed into primordial wave, ascendance, and lava blast spam? haha.
Probably not. I don’t.
But there it is. The tier set literally makes any other talent build null.
