10.2 - Guardians of the Dream

R.I.P. my hopes that a patch named Guardians of the Dream would reward a legendary for Druida… instead we get 2H ace I will never be able to use.

9 Boss Raid, including one Dragonriding boss you’ll be able to Dragonride!

  • One wing is untouched by Fyrakk, which has Nimaue, Weaver of the Cycle as the last boss.

  • Another wing has been destroyed by Fyrakk, and the last boss is the Firelord himself, Smolderon.

    • Another boss is Tandral Sageswift, one of the leaders of the Druids of the Flame, which players will be able to Dragonride on.
  • Final boss is Fyrakk

I’ll admit seeing that Smolderon is a boss here surprised me since he was last known to be MIA. Though I guess he freed himself off screen like Neptulon did… Though I do wonder if he’s attacking to claim the Amirdrassil’s power for himself.

Granted the shaman Legion campaign did say that we sided with him in the Firelands civil war because he hated mortals less than his rival, so him fighting down the road wasn’t completely off the cards but I’m kind of disappointed about it. I helped put that elemental in power and this is how he rewards me?!

Which is beyond dumb. I was hoping Druids were going to get a cool legendary weapon

I’m a bit disappointed as well. I completed the Shaman campaign back in Legion and now all that work I did to unite the Elemental Lords just goes out the window because Blizzard couldn’t come up with a whole new Fire-themed boss.

Would have been a neat touch and just say the Ragnaros cult, the one dealt with during the Dark Iron allied quest, was successful in ressurrecting a fragment of Ragnaros.

We could have sided with Smolderon as he fights his former boss for supremacy. Would have been more interesting in my opinion

Seriously they should have used Baron Geddon, he’s an old face and the story could of been a simple manner of him wanting Amirdrassil’s power for himself to overpower Smolderon and become new Firelord.

I think the part that stings me the most is that the Elemental Lords have been radio silent this entire expansion, an expansion all about the elements and Primal forces…

And then their first appearance is a villain.

You can see Kul Tiran Druids in the Emerald Dream at 9:53.

Druids get some customization love, we get a new faerie dragon riding mount, and the nether dragon riding mount gets some new skins. Though I lowkey wonder if 10.2 is coming with Outland dragonriding races to be the source of that last one.

It has also been confirmed that the patch will not include new race/class combinations.

Wowhead has concept art here, but I can’t find the art anywhere outside of this page. Maybe Blizz gave them directly to Wowhead. I also don’t know where the quote at the top of the article comes from.

Going to be honest, even with the alleged new options I’m still not very fond of the Moonkin form. The only race I don’t use the Glyph of Stars is Zandalari. Maybe if we get some more Moonkin options that are more like the Zandalari’s I’d be more interested.

I do hope those “fiery-themed” options they allude to includes a Druid of the Flame skin tone option. That would be dope on N.Elf Warlock or Mage.

Yeah, I kind of figured as much. The new Race/Class combinations seem to be reserved for the smaller X.X.5 and X.X.7 patches.

The presence of Smolderon makes me wonder if he’ll be a willing collaborator or if it’ll play into some angle of the Shadowflame allowing Fyrakk to corrupt and basically enslave him.

I’m getting a feeling that this whole thing may be a play by the Void to use the Incarnates to take back Azeroth’s elements, re-corrupt the Dream and regain the progress it lost toward claiming the World-soul as we’ve defeated the Old Gods and their elemental loyalists

I’ve heard rumors this is the last patch of the expansion, can anyone confirm?

Story Updates

  • Fury Incarnate are leading us into Guardians of the Dream, continuing the curveball thrown by Vyranoth in the recent cinematic.

  • There will be a new renown track for The Dream Wardens, featuring (we believe) 20 ranks, similar to the Niffen from Zaralek Caverns.

  • No planned updates for previous renown tracks, though that may change in the future. Right now the focus is on the Emerald Dream & Dream Wardens.

  • Players may have noticed that each major patch focuses on both a specific Primal Incarnate and Dragonflight to tell a deeper story, such as Iridikron and the Bronze Dragonflight being the focus of Fractures in Time. Though Vyranoth is starting to play a larger role, Guardians of the Dream is very much focused on Fyrakk and the Green Dragonflight.

  • New players may have missed some context if they haven’t leveled older renowns though, such as the unlockable Green Dragon questlines in the Ohn’ahran Plains, so the team is looking at what can be done to help them catch up.

  • Devs won’t confirm if Patch 10.2 is the last major content patch, but have firmly stated that it isn’t the end of the story either - there’s more to tell after Guardians of the Dream and the devs are really excited for us to see where that takes us.

  • Despite widespread rumors that the patch may release around the time of BlizzCon, the devs do not have a release date to share yet.

  • Superbloom events are collaborative multistage public events similar to Research Under Fire in Zaralek Caverns or the Soup in Iskaara, featuring whacky powers like an army of rescued baby moonkins bombarding your enemies with lasers.

  • Taking feedback from Researchers, players will always get the biggest reward after doing the event the first time, so you’ll want to do it at least once a week, but continuing to do it after that will continue to provide additional rewards.

  • Dreamsurges will continue to happen in Patch 10.2, similar to how previous Storm and Assault events have continued to be available.

  • The portion of Emerald Dream that players will explore in Patch 10.2 is very large and Dragonriding capable, said to be at least as large as the Ohn’ahran Plains. It will be a very different space from regular WoW, with features players may not expect. It’s just a portion of the Dream though - players are just visitors here and those that try to fly too far out of bounds will get sleepy and be gently placed back where they belong.

The legendary choice is… bizarre?

Also, I definitely got sus vibes from Smolderon on my Shaman and I wondered if they’d ever do anything with him down the road. Kind’ve neat to see that come full circle even if my Shaman is like ‘C’MON GUYS, WTF’.

Ah well, such is the nature of Fire.

Yep. One minute, they’re super helpful. The next, they’re trying to light you, your house and the whole world on fire just because they can

Not sure if anyone noticed but the screenshot of the Faerie Dragon mount (omg, so cute) shows what looks to be a character wearing an interesting set. Possibly tier or quest gear?

It looks GREAT from what I can see.

Edit: Looks like it’s actually a questing/open world set!

this is a joke but unironically, a layer of the Dream thats a perpetual wildfire would be cool, and feel like that subzone in Howling Fjords with the Ancients that have been on fire thousands of years.
