100% skill based pvp... does it even exist?

I mean nowadays its so cringe

gear item level
essences and their ranks
corruption and their ranks
gem slots?
azerite traits…???

some people get way luckier than others…

some have the perfect corruptions, traits, essences… while others get garbage loot every single day of every single week.

will there ever be a time where the pvp will be skill based instead of gear based?

i am lucky to have very high ilvl, best in slot corruption, very decent traits and all rank 3 essences… if my tentacle procs on some1 it easily does 150k dmg which is almost 33% of some1s hp…

idk just seems kinda dumb.

imagine playing an FPS game and u get this secret abnility where ur stray bullets have a 5 percent chance to just instantly headshot and kill some1?

when will it be about skill? r there any skill based games out there similar to wow?

i love wow… i really do… but damn i just sometimes think how cool this game could be without all the bogus random dmg that comes out of nowhere

Call of Duty seems to be more your game friend

75% of what your character is even capable of doing is based on stats gained by gearing. This has been the way since the beginning.

Not as long as Ion is in charge. This is pvp designed by mythic raiders for mythic raiders.

…or maybe instead you’ll get a reaper airstrike…you mean cheese crap like that? It exists in all games…

This is the reason we log in and play an RPG. To get powerful items then use them to own it up in PvP. What you call cringe is the core aspect of the game. PvP is a 2 step process. Gearing then skillfully wielding that power.

I agree this is the main problem and why BGs are so bad and plagued with deserters. I would love an entire new system in SL with Honor Vendor gear that is an upgrade at the start of every season again.

I also think there should be BG token used to socket any gear you like or even upgrade it.

There should also be a personal loot pool for BGs based on performance like KB’s and objectives which will give incentive to stay in the BG. When we have great rewards people actually feel like it is worth their time.

FPS though aren’t RPGs. The reason we play an RPG is because it’s based on gear progression. I don’t play FPS because there is no gear progression.

No, it really isn’t at all.

I used to raid and do PvP. My PvE progression was mostly isolated from PvP. I progressed in PvE to do better in PvE and beat all the bosses in PvE. I put on PvP gear I got in PvP to PvP. I didn’t have a significant advantage over anyone else because I did hard modes/heroics (mythics didn’t exist yet).

Vanilla and BfA are the only two versions of the game in its entire history where raiders faceroll everyone else.

Back in WoD, when we were running War Games with the gear you could purchase from the vendor, it was pretty close. We didn’t do a lot of them, but we had a lot of fun!

I’m not sure if War Games even exist anymore, but yea Corruption and essences throw everything so far outta whack that I’m not sure it would be the same even if they did.

I kinda thing Heroes of the Storm is as close to what WoW PvP should be as you can get. I never stuck with it because it plays a little too fast for my liking, but I thought it was a really great game. I’m just not sure why Blizzard so abruptly pulled the plug like they did.

PvE gear has been better than PvP gear in Pvp instance since WoD and once in Cata.

Yeah I only play FPS games with zero bullet spread. I’m not going to be hindered by that disgusting RNG nonsense that people have come to expect from games! Its unrealistic! /s

Only way to solve this question is if all gear, abilities and consumables were to be completely rendered innert in BGS.

Just give every player that same grey gear and a stick and let them go at each other.

The major problem with WOW PVP is, it has always been a PVE game first. PVP for them is secondary. So that means, if a class works well in PVE and not so well in PVP, it wont get fixed… Example: DH’s in PVP are so far beyond brokenly OP that its funny to watch. But in PVE I guess they are doing what they are designed to do… So, it will never be balanced for PVP.

Same with Locks… As for tanks, Druids in PVP are so OP as well where I think, Warrior tanks suffer… Then factor in gear and you have the current state…

This is what happened to talents and professions. Because it was cookie cutter in Pve (which by nature is cookie cutter) they removed it because it felt like extra work to meet minimum requirements.

In PVP, players could combine multiple combinations with talents, racials, and professions to make up for weakenesses or to pander to a certain play style.

Hasn’t it always been this way since the game started.

One shot Enh Shaman ? I saw the old videos .

I had forgotten I had written this until someone just liked it… what’s with people liking old posts for weeks, or even months back, that have had no activity otherwise? I’m finding this happens a lot… it feels weird.

Anyway, in this case, I feel it’s apt and actually responds to the statement you made. It’s a bit of a long read, but at least on the gear side, it does offer a similar baseline to what you are saying. For skills though, it’s a lot harder. Having said that, I think starting from a baseline set of gear with a controlled set of options, provides better capability to balance skills with. Perhaps, though, the “unpruning” might have a negative impact on this.

(See second section.)

it’s the game as old as time, man. roll those bones, sometimes you’ll get a set of snake eyes and sometimes you’ll take the money.

RNG is present in everything, to varying degrees. play a game of chess if you want to have a purely logic based strategy game in front of you.

me? i’m gonna roll the bones.

Kind of, but they got pretty close a few expacs ago when they had resilence. You could gear for PVP and classes where close. I mean, you will always have a flavor of the month, its a business model to keep subscribers but where we are now is completely broken…

nope not in bfa

the reason “WE” dude you dont speak for everybody

No that’s just wrong. If gear is gear, and PvP gear is BiS in PvP then there’s no issues. Once you gather all your pieces from the vendor the gear advantage cannot grow. It’s all about your skill from there. People who want gear to matter are satisfied and people who want skill to matter are as well.
