100% mob grind 1-60

I remember one of my friends never picked up vendor trash. He puss off the skinners around him.

The mob xp rates for Vanilla are known. To get from 1-60 by killing mobs only, you need to kill 16342 mobs at your player level. At an extremely conservative rate of 1 mob per minute, that’s 272 hours /played.

At a leisurely 2 hrs/day, that’s 136 days or about 4.5 months. Keep in mind that 272 hrs /played is based on a slow, conservative pace for grinding.

The world record (for hunters) is currently 124 hours /played, and I expect the average player will take about 180 hours /played, so 272 hours is about 50% more than that. It will almost certainly go faster than that for most players as grinding mobs requires less intermediate travel overall.

That world record is a little misleading as it actually took him 9 days to hit 60 and it was on an already established server were he had gold to buy himself stuff.

From 20-60 he actually was in full rested xp and would sit his toon in an inn for nearly 24 hours before logging in again. He did this almost 4 times before hitting 60.

So unless the op is going to spend ever 2nd day in an inn before coming back than its going to take longer.

Also the average player in vanilla never hit 60 in less than 3 months. You only saw thise numbers decrease on established servers were the player could provide gold to the toon for talents.

A lot of times people had to stop questing to run off completely and make gold just to repair or buy talents.

Talents while leveling are huge gold sinks and of you dont grsb the essential ones you will gimp yourself.

I hit level 60 in less than 3 months on the very first character I played in WoW. The key determinant on how much real time it takes to hit 60 has less to do with your class and playstyle and more to do with how many hours per day you play.

That’s why I was saying that 1-60 by grinding can be easily done in 270 hours /played. Easily. I was referencing the world record just to point out that it’s just about 2.2 times the world record.

If you play 1 hour per day, then sure that’s 9 months real time. If you play 3 hours per day, then it’s 3 months.

Also, when you level 1-60 by grinding you literally have zero trouble paying for your skills because it is a more profitable (if slower) way to level.

Mob kills are not worth it vs questing unless you’re going to let your rested build up at a faster rate than you burn it. Mob kills have a strict XP fatigue limit. You’ll be at 50% most of the time unless you’re a very casual player. Quests however do not have this fatigue.

The fatigue (rested) system itself is why it’s recommended to level at least 2 characters at once. While you’re on 1, the other is charging up. While offline, they both charge. 2 characters generate 3x the rested vs a single character, a profit for your time. You also get double profession slots, which allows you to put gathering ones on your alt, and craft ones on your raider. Don’t wait until later to level your alt. Do it right alongside your intended raider so he can gather for you and keep the rested spent.

This.

The most effective method is to do quests plus killing everything that gets in your way between the quest and you. Grind to the quest, grind out the quest, grind back to the quest giver, rinse repeat.

Can’t think of anything more boring. Sounds about as fun as washing dishes as a full time job for no pay. Horrifying to me.

There’s a whole game there for people to play from 1-60, and I don’t understand why some would want to skip it. But whatever floats your boat.

This is completely true if your goal is to level up as efficiently as possible.

Everything at the endgame is repetition. Dungeons, Battlegrounds, Raids, Rep Grinds, etc. It’s all repetitive, but people do it anyway because they enjoy it.

Seems fine. I leveled a toon from 15-55 solely by turning in BG marks. It took a while, couldn’t handle it the last 5 level to 60 though.

*Because they enjoy doing it with their friends, or for a specific goal with an end point.

There’s a difference between treadmills and running a marathon.

depend on level, when you have no mount or speedboost, grinding is generally faster, only way questing can be efficient is if you combine 4-5 quest in the same place, almost have no run to do to reach the quest area. But hey guys you can all do quest, I will mostly kill stuff:P
Remember than in vanilla, respawn of named mobs was awful so running 5 min to wait 1 hour to kill a mob is not worth it:)

Some people are going to call you crazy but you gotta follow your dreams, man! I believe in you!

Not all repetition is alike. There’s writing the same sentence over and over again 1,000 times like Bart Simpson did for punishment in school. And then there is having sex with a Victoria’s Secret super model repeatedly. Both actions are repetitive, but one is much less fun than the other.

But only one of those activities can kill you. Have you ever heard of Snu Snu?

What’s interesting is that you seem to be unaware that what people consider to be “fun” is entirely subjective

I have 5 60s across many pvt servers that I leveled just via grinding

Its fast between 20-50 then it slows down a lot, but you’ll make a lot of gold if you know the spots

Well if you are grinding might as well keep cloths for the Cloth Quartermasters in each major city which give reputation and experience. Wool, Silk, Mageweave and Runecloth. I think it becomes repeatable at Runecloth.

Grind furbolgs in Ferlas for reputation in Timbermaw Hold. You will get cloth for above and some pretty good tailoring, leatherworking, blacksmithing patterns and really good enchanting formulas! Grind Scourge in Eastern and Western Plaguelands for the Argent Dawn again for really good rep rewards and that coveted +5 Resist All shoulder enchant!

I wouldn’t do it 100%. First of all, quests are good money and XP so don’t skip on them. Secondly, there are a few key dungeon quests and drops that will make leveling easier so you should go for those.

But leveling through killing mobs is a very good thing. Just don’t miss out on other opportunities, especially once you get over level 50. Those last levels are filled with great gear if you do quests and instances.

Never in Classic but in Cataclysm+ I’ve leveled a few different characters w/ zero quests completed. I quite enjoyed the journey and had a good time with it. Sometimes setting an arbitrary limit or goal helps focus play and makes it feel interesting or rewarding.
