Does anyone else plan to do this, or am I just crazy? I figured Herbalism (since rogues need herbs for spells), and skinning. So at any given point I’m either pick-pocketing the humanoid targets before I kill them, or skinning beasts after the fact. Combine that with the front loaded burst Ambush spec I made, it should be quite fun.
Sounds crazy boring but I’m sure it’s happened. Maybe not a true 1-60 but I know of mages that start to AoE farm from 20-60. It’s a good way to make some money if done right and to start grinding reps that you’ll have to anyways.
Suggestion, the later levels (55-60) it’s sometimes faster to grind out the level then to travel to 4 different zones to quest.
Do whatever you enjoy. I did a lot of grinding when I leveled my first 60 because I’d just get tired of running around for quests, especially after level 40 or so.
Something to consider, in addition to it being slow, is that by skipping quests you will be missing out on a lot of reputation. If you ever want to get your reputations up you might find yourself going back and doing those quests anyway.
Grinding is also going to be less social than questing or running dungeons. Which to me is sort of the whole point of Classic.
I’ve always just liked Subtlety Rogues with their huge openers, practically 1 shotting mobs their level. I’ve always liked “grindy” things.
This is one of the reason I’m doing it. But as far as questing goes, I do plan to go back and do them all once I’m 60 and just breeze through them since mobs won’t be scaling with me.
I’ll be dungeon running once I’m 60 and buying whatever upgrades I need from all the pickpocket / skinning moneys I make from the grind as I go along.
It was super frustrating in vanilla to travel 15 minutes across the world, turn in a quest, and be told to travel 15 minutes back to the other side of the world. Nowadays I’d be smarter about combining quests, skipping quests, setting hearthstone etc. But back then I’d just say “screw it I’m gonna go kill some ogres.”
One issue i see with this is that you wouldn’t be getting the gear from the quest which of course helps you kill mobs faster. Also in vanilla the exp from mobs was not very high, quest exp really propelled that bar forward.
In retail its doable because you have heirlooms and everything dies with ease.
The only downside is the time factor. You are adding a whole lot extra to your timeline, if you are going back at 60 to do all the quests, for rep, attunement, w/e reasons.
That’d be a long haul. Maybe take time to research which quests send you to the areas that you’ll be grinding will make sense? You’ll need to return to hubs to empty bags, anyway!
You bring up a good point. While I will be making a lot of gold between pick pocket, vendoring skins, and herbalism, I had only considered weapon upgrades primarily from the AH. Perhaps I should go skinning / LW so I can make upgraded armors as I go.
hmmm.
it’ll take as long as it takes. I’m in no rush and have 5 days off from work to do nothing but grind.
Edit: 5 days is to just kick things off. I realize it’ll take a month or longer for me to hit 60 going about it this way.
I have too, and that’s why between questing I often stop and grind out a half level or so when I’m in a spot that suits me. Sometimes humanoids, sometimes beasts for skinning or something similar. Sometimes just because. Gives you the feeling of adding a little extra to your exp bars.
So when there is a quest asking you to kill 10 gnolls, 5ft away from where you start the quest are you going to ignore the quest and kill 30 gnolls instead?
