10 Man Mythic

Every player I’ve talked to who has been a part of a mythic raid team has vouched for this idea. I myself say I would likely maintain interest in the game for longer periods of time if this were to be implemented. 20-man content is not ideal for a lot of people and can be daunting for those who may have interest in raiding at the Mythic level. I’ve been a GM of a CE guild before and personally despised roster management at the 20-man level; it’s taxing to keep track of and maintain. There are so many factors that can prevent your team from raiding in a given week or require your team to pull in a random player. 20-man content also moreso incentivizes benching more players to ensure you hit that 20 man count consistently when people are absent - not to say a 10-man roster wouldn’t, but the likelihood of people calling out with half the people would be cut down. Plus I can come up with 10 players much quicker than 20 from scratch at any point if we plan to form a new guild or stop raiding and continue raiding later. I don’t care if I have to wait 2-4 weeks after raid launch to do 10-man Mythic to either allow RWF to be an equal playing field or allow the balance team to figure out how the fights would work, but it should be in the game at this point and I think player retention for even more players who do want to play the game at the Mythic level would be a lot better if this were implemented.

10 man raiding has been done, and it wasn’t very successful. Unless it’s the only difficulty in the game, it’s a nightmare to balance. Losing 1 member in a 10 man will always cut deeper than in 20 man, therefore they’ll have to either make it easier (and thus less rewarding) or it’ll be harder overall. There’s no middle ground.

I think you’re right and I’m all for it, but Blizzard literally yeeted the most popular raid configuration to prop up 20 man mythic. I doubt it’ll happen friend.

Flex mythic raid and 10 man mythic plus.

Mythic is 20 people. If you have interest in raiding at the Mythic level then you have interest in raiding with 20 people. If you want to raid with 10 people instead then you don’t have interest in raiding at the Mythic level.

I generally stay out of raiding threads, but they’ve said that doing smaller mythic content couldn’t have the depth and also wouldn’t foster a healthy level of class or spec representation.

I would love it (I think), but I don’t ever expect it to happen. Hell I’d even take the Wrath model where 10 man was easier than 25, but I just don’t see it happening.

it would help increase raiding participation, that’s for sure. 20 man raids killed smaller servers back in the days.

i understand why they like the 20 man model though. i think they should just bring back ulduar style hard modes, or use the fated raid system to make up for the difficulty loss if they were to decrease mythic raid sizes. :revolving_hearts:

10man mythic is okay as long as it’s the 5mans that get the mode, not the raids.

I feel like this topic is not discussed enough - thank you guys for contributing to the conversation. I feel like there are a substantial amount of players who want this. Those who would be against the idea, I’m just curious why you wouldn’t want something like this in the game? It would simply add another way of enjoying the content for those who don’t have the energy to keep up a 20 person roster, but still enjoy the highest tier of content. If you fear that 10 man would be easier than 20 man, I don’t think that would be the case. As in 10 man Heroic, more ppl are accountable for nailing mechanics and one single mistake can cost you a pull. Whereas it’s common to see a few deaths on 20 man, especially on a prog kill.

If balancing is an issue, there are likely ways to work around it if the balance team gets creative. I’m trying to think of good examples besides just halfing the expectations for mechanics. But given my experience there are very few encounters in which 20 players are actually all doing different things that would require the balance team to specifically re-engineer a fight to work for 10 man. Just reduce the numbers and slightly tweak mechanics you feel would be overwhelming in 10 man. Probably easier said than done but again, I’m willing to wait for this feature. Like I said before, switching to a scaling model, at least with 2 modes when designing a fight would probably be the best way to go about it.

Let me know your thoughts on this, as I would love some concrete examples for cases against this. And if you have any feedback on how they could implement it, feel free to share!

Still unable to think of reasons why they can’t do this.

#1 reason is it requires significant additional balancing for the design team

10m would make mythic easier to group for, but aside from that it’s be impossible to sustain while 20m exists.

Flex won’t happen for similar reasons; in the end one mode would likely be easier than the other. Too many hoops to jump through from a design standpoint.

I’ve seen lots of these threads, multiple each expac. Either way there’s basically a 0% chance it will happen.

Before this forum was dead. Back when there was 10man and 25 man heroic in the Cata-Mop era. These forums had ball-babying of epic proportions. Probably some of the most idiotic discussions that ever existed were in this very place.

The main talking points related to encounter balance between 10 and 25, and to a lesser extent 25 raider recruiting efforts.

I firmly believe 10 man mythic raiding will never exist again because of those assinine arguments 10+ years ago. It is hard to fathom for players now if you weren’t there.

Now they’re primarily in the GD. A great migration.

I for one don’t think 10 man would necessarily be easier, I mean the mechanics would be so much more punishing. If clearing the content early is a problem, like I said, then release it later, maybe with the catalyst? And if you could clear the content more quickly with 10 perfect players, then you’d catch up to the average 20 man groups who started earlier.

People would still get their RWF and the players who don’t want to maintain a 20m roster would be happy simultaneously. I truly believe 10 man is possible and writing it off to “balance” is just accepting what Blizz has been telling you in the past to abandon hope on the subject. It is possible, and can be implemented, the true question is, how much of the community truly wants this (balance argument aside). If enough members of the community express interest in this, Blizz may feel more compelled to invest in the topic, hence the main drive of this conversation in gauging the community’s interest here.

If we shoot the idea down because “it’s impossible”, we will never see change.

By the virtue of being 10 people, it would inherently be easier than 20 man mythic. They’d have to only reduce stuff by 1/4 instead of 1/2 to account for it, if they even did (10 man is also much more restrictive for encounter design).

It worked in previous expansions as 10 and 25 man content. Surprising enough, the 10 man was the harder of the two. Small mistakes where compounded by the lack of people.

with exception of few fights it wasn’t

10+ years and people are still booty-hurt over this. Would be a nice psychological experiment.
