Most of the US economy is fake BS jobs. None of them “need” to exist and everything would keep on turning.
Of course most of these people do some things. They just aren’t actually urgent and can be done later.
Most salaried jobs are like that though. Just the way the world works.
People who stock shelves and turn off the lights are expendable. Sure they are necessary but can be replaced in an instant.
If you can just call in whenever and say “not coming in today” that sounds pretty expendable honestly, no less expendable than someone stocking shelves.
Funny how that is. Salaried jobs are usually pointless, but difficult and the people are more difficult to replace, but hourly jobs are vital yet easily replaced.
Maybe they shouldnt give me 7 weeks of PTO a year. What you want me to do just not use my days?

Your value is based on how easy you are to be replaced. Yes, your actual role may be critical, but there are a million ppl who could do what you do.
However, the reason the financial analyst or account manager makes significantly more is because replacing that job is a pain in the butt, and getting anyone skilled is good luck.
If you go into a job demanding a raise because “my job is critical” thats a terrible outlook. Your value is always how easy you are to replace. That will never ever change.
