🤔 Alpha Testers Already Not Motivated To Run Torghast

Torghast is an endless dungeon similar in concept to Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High in FFXIV. People were told they could take their time to explore as the content would not be timed and it was released in the alpha to a wave of excitement.

A little while ago they said they would be adding a soft timer to parts of Torghast. These come in the form of Torments. Many people who don’t like timers in their content are now upset, and I actually haven’t seen many people that think the Torments are good design anyway.

I can’t really comment on how Torments affect the Torghast experience because Blizzard apparently sent my invite to someone else, but I will say this after reading feedback from a lot of places: Blizzard, please reconsider this mechanic. I know that it is kind of like having an opinion on a book I haven’t read, but if you told me the plot of a book was about 2 people who talk about themselves in the 3rd person for the entire book, and that they only talk about how badly they are treated at the DMV, I would not want to read that book.

Nor do I want yet another activity ruined by a damn timer, soft, hard or otherwise! I can’t speak for everyone but I can tell you matter of factly that I will never play based around waiting for bloodlust on every pull, and if there is a small part of the playerbase that is willing to do that, then hey, more power to em.

Would it not be a more elegant solution to ensure that anything beyond trivial rewards be accessible before such exploits are necessary? Say you want to add leaderboards at a given time, and the boards are ranked by level, then time, like GR’s in D3…you have now given Torghast it’s own built in defense against stall tactics for that sort of Prestige. Say you determine that anytime after floor X is the point where people start waiting on CD’s to take down enemies; make sure any items drops, pets/mounts, and essential materials drop below that floor. You’ve added a second layer of built in stall protection. Most players are efficient with their time. If whatever x level is requires a great solo player or a good group, they’re not going to waste time waiting for long CD’s, they have other stuff to do.

I appreciate the effort in trying to fix a problem, but I really think this was not a problem to begin with.

Member with me:

  • Trolls that summon ghosts when they died and feared you.
  • Murlocks that used to run to their buddies and trample you to death.
  • Spinning mobs that trashed the melee.
  • Casters that laughed as you attempted to move them.
  • The green fire quest where you had to mind control the big guy to fight the bigger guy. Adds galore requiring special moves.
  • Bridges with wind on them, gusting you off mid battle.
  • being in a dungeon where you literally could not figure out where you where half the time.
  • Finding secret stuff.

It’s all stuff we wanted to re-live with that tower… We wanted hard that is actually HARD. That requires you to use that spell you lost in your spellbook long ago.

But we replaced it with “timer hard” which is sorta but not really threatening mob under mind altering stress that makes you feel like it’s more difficult then it actually is. And when you step back and get used to the stress and it all becomes 2nd nature you realize its just annoying.

It works for dungeons that stay the same all the time. It’s just a formula then. All the HARD lessons where rooted out by the professionals and then posted so that no one ever had to learn how to really get around hard again.

I want that for WoW, I want people to remember once more how to do HARD and use their minds to tackle the puzzles in creative ways. Not just plow it, because you don’t have the time to spare.

I think a lot of people wanted that. Sadly I don’t think people can get over their own timer adrenaline addictions long enough to see that the whole game doesn’t have to play the same way.

You are going to be disappointed then because it is nothing like that and I personally think it is a good thing. I am not include in your ‘we’.

Don’t worry your not in my definition of “we”. You should be happy with your Mythic Plus’s and stop ruining other people’s stuff with your stinky timers.

The rest of us wanted a sacred space (timer free content) and you had to walk in the room and fart (out a pace timer). Please keep your farts in your side of wow please.

Timers has nothing to do with your suggestions of what ‘we’ want. I just don’t like your ideas for content that everyone is going to be expected to do for legendaries. Your ideas would make that tower dead on arrival.

And what is this to prove you can be vulgar, is that supposed to be a good look now?

Think its going to be that way in any case.

Blizzard probably should not have said what they said, just to most likely go back on it, unless they really needed to sell pre-orders first, then I can understand that from an evil-corporate point of view.

Isn’t that the point of them though? Would they prefer them being a real hindrance?

As long as they keep different modes for different people they will be okay - some people will enjoy them more than others but that isn’t different than any content. Trying to force everyone to have a similar experience in there isn’t going to be all that great for their bottom line.

I don’t care that those will be the only source for legendary materials but I can understand with the cost of that feature why everyone is pretty much going to be forced to do those.

I am an alpha player, and I like Torghast. The non-timer doesn’t bother me.

So you’re essentially admitting that it has no replay value outside of legendary items? ok. That doesn’t really refute the OP’s post.

And just how have they not made everything into a similar experience when they make towers into mythic plus 2.0?

There is now NO escape from timers! It’s all the same now. It’s all something the whips me forward.

Because there are different modes and some of them have no timer at all.

When you enter there is a huge room full of portals about 6 to 8 I believe and there is only one portal (right now) you can take that will give you torments at a certain level.

This is what you see when you enter. I believe each one of those alcoves will have a portal.

So your saying it’s like dungeons. I have normal (low levels), then heroic (middle levels) and then mythic with timers (all tower levels past a specific point). HOW IS THAT NOT THE SAME!!

They are not allowing high level solo content without the use of a timer like mechanic…it’s all the same now!! Gratz you made another copy of mythic plus/ visions.

No it isn’t really like dungeons but yes the torment is only on the high level content - solo/group.

So now I wonder if you can stop selling it to me and realize that it’s not what was sold to us and that many wanted it without such things.

Torghast IS a dungeon, just auto-generated content/layout instead of crafted ahead of time content/layout. Trying to call a duck a crow doesn’t make it so.

Its probably her job to do so. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh go and believe what you want. It is far to earlier to even know what they plan to do anyway by the time they are done.

If I was getting paid this forum would look a lot different, you should be glad I am not getting paid.
