As a fan of the Blizzard RTS games, I would like to ask. Will Warcraft 3 classic version become free. Like when StarCraft 1 got a remaster and it’s classic version becoming free?

Great question, perhaps there’s something to this as there have been issues with Warcraft III being pulled from the shop after the Reforged announcement.
Maybe, maybe not. They might put the classic up for free download. But classic is included for free with Reforged. Depends how they want to do it.
I doubt so. I remember Blizzard saying they regretted making broodwar free because they can hardly stop hackers now.
You cannot buy classic WC3 on blizzards store anymore. It says “error 404”. The removal makes me think its about to be free.

They should definitely make the old WC3 free for sure so more people are able to see if they wanna get reforged or not. Also to boost the custom games scene.

Well, it depends how you watch it. You can’t buy the classic versions anymore at all, and you can only buy the Reforged, which includes the both classic versions. So there’s two ways you can see it:
- Reforged costs 30€ and you get RoC and TFT for free
OR - RoC, TFT and Refroged all cost 10€, but you just have to buy them all in a bundle
More simple answer: no, you can’t have only RoC and TFT for free (or at all, for that matter).

Are you sure about this? I want to play the classic version right now but I read that it wasnt avaiable, even if you get Reforged.
With the pre purchase of Reforged we are to get keys for RoC and TFT classic the problem however is that there was some bug when trying to implement this and they are working hard to get it fixed for us on Monday so they say.
Why are you asking? Are you really that cheap that you can’t buy it?
Given the phrasing in the OP, I think it’s less of a case of being cheap and more a safe assumption it’s: “If there’s cross play between the original and Reforged with the original possibly being free, bringing in new blood would be cool.”

That is true but it does bring in the hackers too which poses and big threat to the game as you are bringing them around the people who just paid which is not going to be nice. I have an idea. Make PART of WC3: Reforged free but keep them off the internet. No battle.net or LAN. Also no custom games or map editor. They COULD do some 1vs1 against the computer or do part of the campaign. I feel this is a better solution than just throwing the whole classic WC3 at them free.
I personally feel like the best option would be the SC:R approach which wouldn’t be surprising at all. Make the original game free and fully accessible. Reforged is Reforged and a different-but-connected product. I don’t think anyone (except the siller folks that want Reforged free with no strings attached) is expecting the game of Reforged free.
Free and full accessible would be ok if those player are playing by themselves. Well then keep them on classic battle.net and away from me and I am fine because I play paid online games to be away from hackers.

Well that’s a tough break for you, bud. Cross-play compatibility’s a thing in Reforged just like SC:Remastered. Frozen Throne players can play with Reforged players and vice versa.
No, i’m asking because i never played it. And as a potential consumer, i want to experience the classic first before purchasing the remaster.
Frankly I don’t want it to be free. For the past 10 years I’ve been going to lan parties and people always play and distribute some hacked version because most people are too cheap to buy it. Even though it hardly cost anything and is worth the price simply in the campaign it comes with. That has always bugged me, cause it’s a great game and it deserved better. You get the full campaign, melee map mode and a plethora of custom maps available in WC3. I don’t want them to have to give that away for free to make people want to pay for what they get.

I also don’t think it should be free, but my reason is because communities for free online competitive games tend to be worse than communities for online competitive games with a paid barrier to entry from my experience. I think this is mainly because if people get banned they just make another free account. If this game is done right, then it is certainly worth the money. Hell, I think Classic is worth what they are charging for Reforged. WC3 is a masterpiece.

Agreed, and good reasoning. Though I don’t play the competitive side of WC3 (more of a custom maps man), I can see where you’re coming from.
I think WC3 classic will be given free! Why? Well just to tease you to get the updated graphics and features of Forged! Why would anyone pay for classic when the graphics are so old and outdated and the game is almost worthless? When Forged comes out people are really not going to be up to paying for classic except to collect it maybe but I think it will be a free download.
