that’s basically the most insulting piece of text i read on these forums…
lol Well you do have to look at the value of the game…It is really old.
Old doesn’t mean it is less valuable. And it certainly doesn’t look as old as it is. People even pay for new games that look old nowadays. Ultimately it is more about the amount of time you get to spend enjoying the game. If that is a high number then the game is valuable. For most people that play WC3, that is a high number. For example, take the price you pay for a good game and divide it by the hours you spend playing that game. You can practically call it free at that point if it is a good game.
On the Internet of Things, yes old does lose value. When old does NOT lose value, you are generally talking about collectables or antiques. Since there is something coming out to upgrade and replace this game, it is not going to be very valuable. There is also competition everywhere. You can pull out your mobile phone and find many other RTS games. I like WC3 because it has custom games. A lot of people are probably not going to care about the nostalgia of how old games worked in the first place and just move on. Software DOES devalue. Look at Windows or WoW. They come out with a WoW expansion and later on make it free because no one is willing to pay for it. It would be total nonsense to me to pay for a game that was made in 2003(?). Now I did so in 2005 and got my moneys worth. I think it would also be beneficial of Blizzard to themselves to make it free so people will buy Reforged as they like the teaser. After all it would be a great way to get our friends online to play with us on Reforged!
I kinda get your point, but this has the problem that Classic and Reforged are compatible, meaning Classic players can play against Reforged players. This would cause this toxic-community-competitive-scheme, as was mentioned above.
Instead, a limited free version or a demo would be a better idea (I never got it, why demos aren’t even a thing anymore): with a free version you could play a few missions of the campaign, maybe play some multiplayer and certain kind of custom games. And maybe even give the World Editor with limited features. This would succeed in your point: people could try the game and it would push people to buy Reforged and at the same time, freemium community wouldn’t ruin the proper community.
As soon as you buy Warcraft Reforged ,warcraft 3 classic becomes free to play.
Cheers
You are forgetting Blizzard’s scheme of things though! Just take a look at SC2. They made the whole thing free except for some parts of it. Do you really think they are going to make a 15 year old game cost money? I think we can reasonably say it is not going to happen.
Ehm… Aren’t new Windows releases utter garbage? With spyware, ads, ugly interface and constant updates?
I dunno, I’m on Win 7 :))
But you can get it for free from Google. The morality of physics - if it’s possible, then why not?
Well, yeah. I guess they are trying to go past this whole make it free problem by merging the games. Technically, there is no Classic WC3 anymore, since you can’t even buy it anymore - you have to buy Reforged. And those who already own WC3 Classic, well, own it already, so it doesn’t actually need to be made free. The whole fact that you can revert back to SD from Reforged HD is solely to cater those who don’t want anything new. To new players there is basically no reason to go SD and they just play Reforged - to them there is no Classic and Reforged, it’s just Warcraft 3. If you get what I mean.
This has nothing to do with anything. SC and SC:R are compatible with each other in the same fashion. So it can be done. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised based on SC, but then again SD became free shortly after Remastered was announced and that hasn’t happened thus far, so it really could go either way.
I don’t believe they will.
Classic is already part of the Reforged purchase, so this is likely the payment model moving forward. Yes, this means people who only want Classic will have to pay $10 more. Personally, I think anyone who wanted War3 had 15+ years to buy the game at a cheaper cost. Renewed interest and raised price is basic supply and demand economics.
The plus to having this remain a paid game is better control of hacks and custom maps.
Well I don’t have any issues with Win 10 and yes you can get WC3 classic for free by searching Google lol…
