Why did they get rid of US EAST server

i play from us east and a good ping for me now is 120 (if im lucky). before reforged i used to have a 30 ping. why would blizzard be getting rid of servers?. im just curious because the majority of the people i know or watch get some pretty bad pings as well. i understand global match making . my question is what happend to the us east server???

I had a similar issue and finally downloaded w3 champs and haven’t gone back. What’s the point when you don’t have a profile anyway lol

It would be nice to have servers at most of the popular regions…

a server on east would at least make it so na and eu can play with a decent ping again. good eu players dont even wanna play on na servers. i really wish blizzard would just explain to me why its gone now pings have suffered. i just want to know why . why why. no one will respond but … sigh

What’s absolutely crazy is Blizzard released and update and it crashed US East. They never mentioned in the update that removing US East was intentional. It’s almost as if they just straight up forgot to restart the server.

I guess they’ll slowly remove every server?

~~ Bumping until we get an official answer as to what’s happening ~~

There is an east coast server, located in Chicago. You can’t select it as your gateway though, but the game will use whichever one is closer.

You’ve clearly not played Warcraft 3 in quite some time. Every game hosted is on US West, Europe, or Asia. There used to be a separate US East and US West region. Now it’s always USW. It has been this way for about a year now. I have noticed a considerable increase in ping as well.

I actually played just yesterday and yes, there is a an east coast server. It is not seperated from the west coast one, you can only tell by your ping. And it was over a year ago that this was implemented.

Games will show as “USW” regardless of which server the game is on because they are linked as far as battle.net is concerned.

I was on the US East server when it went offline and it never was turned back on. This was over a year ago. My ping has been significantly higher this last year than in previous years, and I’m not the only person who’s noticed this.

It used to show USW and USE separately in the custom games list when reforged first came out. What are you not understanding?!

It never showed USE. Ever. Not from the day they announced it. What are you not understanding?

It looks like they changed the interface and added the region column sometime in 2022-2023. I don’t know what else to tell you, some time around last year the servers got way worse and pings nearly doubled for everyone on the east coast.

There was a period of time when the server wasn’t operating, but it wasn’t that long ago. and I have had games since with the pings I typically got from the Chicago server.

There is no denying that the ping is terrible these days on Warcraft 3 and it’s killing some niche custom game communities.

First they came for delay reducer
And no one stood up for delay reducer

Then they came for host bots
And no one stood up for host bots

Then they came for US East (Azeroth)
And no one stood up for US East

Who will they come for next?! Where is the outcry.

The outcry doesn’t exist becuase it just isn’t the travesty you’re making it out to be. And also in part because that horse has already been beaten to death, and everyone pissed off enough to make an outcry have already moved on.

I’m on the east coast and the USW games have pings between 80-90 which is totally acceptable for a game like this. Not finding this acceptable indicates an elitist attitude in my opinion, the game is totally playable with that kind of ping. on EU I get sslightly worse pings around the 120 range, because its obviously further away. It’s not ideal, but it’s still not really that bad. Hardly “community destroying.” Games on KR are obviously not very good (like 300 ping) but it isn’t a constant enough problem for me to be terribly bothered by it.

Sure, one could argue the community has been ruined, but ping is really the least of our problems.

All but the fastest twitchiest first person action games are totally playable with an 80-90 ping. And even in those games, it’s sitll playable, it just might not be as great if you’re hardcore competitive.

Personally, I think getting all up-and-arms gamer-ragey over a video game being “ruined” is ridiculous in general. It’s a game. Say your piece. If they don’t do anything, well, find a game with a company behind it that cares more.

I said it’s killing niche custom game communities that thrive with low latency. Stop being a whiteknight for Blizzard, are they paying you for this?

I’m US East and I don’t get anywhere near 80-90ms. In most games I have around 140-150ms.

I’m glad you play custom games that are playable with high ping. I enjoy games with finesse and intense micro.

I have played Wc3 for decades, ping has ALWAYS been an issue. From people demanding they are the host, users moving to GARENA/GGC, proxy LAN games using pickup list checker, delay reducer, and host bots, I’ve seen it all. The community wants low ping. There’s no reason in 2024 we should be OK with having higher ping than we had 10 years ago.

You need to educate yourself on other Wc3 communities and stop blindly supporting Blizzard.

I’m not supporting Blizzard here, nor do I need to “educate myself.” Well, we always need to educate ourselves, but I know plenty about this. Please don’t misinterpret a lack of gamer rage as “support.”

I’ve played it for decades as well and ping has rarely been an issue, aside from playing on a different gateway than for my region. You don’t need to tell me lower pings are good. Everyone knows that. But what you describe is simply pro gamers looking for every edge they can find. For the vast majority of us, this really just isn’t all that important as long as the game does what it’s supposed to. Pro gamers might have reason to be outraged, but most of us are not pro gamers. The reality is for the rank and file playerbase who is playing the game right now, it’s only really a problem when NA or EU players are put into a game hosted in KR. But at the same time, if that wasn’t possible the game would be even deader for them than it already is.

To be honest I never even had the ping counter enabled back in the day, nor did I ever really notice unless it was so bad that the delay was measured in seconds lol.
