I dont thnik that Wc3 lore mached with WoW is a bad idea. If they include new stuff to the game for example heros, items, units, race, story, new skill moves (like blocking) or hero abilities (in respect of WoW Story without changing the old Wc3 story) it would refresh the game more and makes it more interesting.
The problem is if they do that, then WC4 will likely follow in WoW’s footsteps as well. Personally I find that idea abhorrent, WoW is a hot mess from a story perspective as has been pointed out time and time again in this thread.
Blizzard seem to think everyone who’s played WC3 have also played WoW, this isn’t true. And even if it was true It doesn’t mean people prefer WoW’s story.
Keep the stories separate, make WoW an alternative timeline.
They explained that the main focus is to make maps similar to how they look in WOW. And most important, give Jaina and Sylvanas more protagonism. But maybe that means just having 2 or 3 more cutscenes about them, it’s not a big deal I think. As long as we have the original campaign, that is.
Do you people honestly believe they will choose this route? They will not. They will never do it.
They have the Warcraft franchise, and unfortunately, it has never been separated into two. Even Hearthstone is somewhat a part of it.
Alternate universes is a silly idea. It automatically offends the entire WoW playerbase. And it saps the hype of any possible project.
We’d better direct our energy at the implementation of these lore changes. Judging by Stratholme, they can be fairly minor, non-intrusive and quite neat in their own right.
Yet as we have talked about this countless times before, if they ever wanted to continue Warcraft as RTS franchise, continuing the story wherever WoW would eventually end would make as little sense either, considering what WoW has done and will continue to do the lore (wiping out all the possible villains and fan favorite characters one by one) and it would be especially insulting from Blizzard to assume that everyone have played World of Warcraft and all its damned expansions during all these years and presume that we are all fully aware about the story, let alone that we embrace where it currently is…
To me its clear that no matter what decision Blizzard would make with Warcraft IV , it would piss off some people, the question they have to ask themselves, do they want to piss us on us, the Warcraft RTS fans who would like to have another Warcraft RTS game in first place, or do they piss on those WoW players who would be even interested in playing Warcraft in RTS form in first place (and many of them arent interested one bit)
Again, one very important thing to keep in mind here is that World of Warcraft and Warcraft RTS games for most part have very different gaming audience, as ofc they are two completely different genres…and that is what Blizzard should first and foremost keep in mind if they ever want to make another proper Warcraft RTS game as well as the fact that there are so many of us WC RTS fans who have not played WoW over all these years, nor do we like/care about its storyline.
As I said before Warcraft IV wouldnt need to wipe out WoW’s events entirely from existance in its storyline, but it could definitely tell them bit different way, where the mechanics/design of MMO wouldnt hinder stuff like Forsaken breaking away from Horde happening. But one way or another Warcraft IV MUST continue where WC 3 TFT ended, or they would directely piss us Warcraft RTS fans in the eye. The only another even remotely acceptable idea would be to place Warcraft IV in time before Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, anywhere from War of the Ancients to 10 000 year time frame to Orcs and Humans, perhaps having multiple campaigns between this time and expanding the lore during that time. But its clear that most Warcraft RTS fans want story that continues from Warcraft III: TFT and told better than what was done in World of Warcraft. Again I recon that most of the MMO players wouldnt care one bit, if WC IV would go for somewhat different version of the story, especially if WoW’s version of the same events would still exist in their beloved MMO.
Anyhow I dont believe either that Blizzard would write completely different story in Warcraft IV, one where everything would be different than in World of Warcraft, but they could quite easily take the main events of the MMO and re-tell them in much better and more complex way in Warcraft IV, perhaps even taking some creative freedom entirely, thus essentially making it another timeline, but one that shares much of the same events…essentially what happened in Warlords of Draenor that I know pissed many ppl off in the first place, but there as we all know Orcs went for conquest anyway despite not being corrupted by the Legion. Blizzard has experimented on that idea once, they could do it again, if they had just courage to do so.
I’m actually super disappointed there isn’t any CM’s acknowledging player feedback on this matter. If they want to “keep it as close to the original as possible”, then don’t wash down the story by adding in retcons from WoWs lore. Don’t even do ‘minor’ dialogue changes, Christie Golden, I’m sorry to say, is terrible at creating dialogue and she’s in charge of this. I’m horrified by what they’ll do when they say they’ll change “outdated pop-culture references”.
Are there any examples at this point? Aside from removing the zoo, however palatable that is, it’s still just one minor detail. We don’t know the extent of the possible retcons.
Good guy Pete! He obviously has great talent. I am really curious what units he colored.
Art is life!
They’re probably changing Magnis “death”, Sylvanus’ high ego childish nature when she was trying to stop Arthas from reaching the Sunwell. In Warbringers: Sylvanus’ they Retcon how she was killed and made her seem incredibly heroic. I just personally don’t like the idea of them making changes like that, even slightl dialogue changes can throw and entire character in a different direction.
They are retconning to make things make sense.
For example making Stratholme looks like what it does in wow.
Or the broken isles look like this:

It is hardly game breaking or re-writing history. Its just being more consistent with what is presented. People need to stop treating WC3 like it was an infallible divine miracle.
If Broken Isles looks like it’s WoW version I’m out…
Also WC3 was a divine miracle, it’s graphics are outdated now that’s the only thing
Bye then I guess.
Thankfully WC3 will continue to exist for you purists.
Let others enjoy the game too.
I’m not a purist that likes old 10 poly models otherwise I’lld not be working as a modder\modeler for Armies Of Azeroth team. Thing is simple keep the old designs give them more polies (like 10k more) and a new textures.
You are absolutely a purist.
I have seen some dumb arguments like Arthas is supposed to be standing on a hill and not a bridge when he talks to Uther.
You realize you are arguing over a loadscreen splash art.
Just go back to WC3 and mod it to your heart’s content. I am more interested in revitalizing this franchise so we can see more RTS games from Blizzard and not have it die off because of purists like you that refuse to let the game be innovated. Yes… even if that involves a frigging splash art that you might see for less than 30 seconds.
I can’t imagine the panic attack you may experience if more races, game mechanics, skins or story DLCs were introduced.
Let’s see your face when Blizzard destroys your dream then cause this is not a new game this is a ‘remaster’.
Yep and a remaster that involves new art which you are objecting to.
Besides they mentioned more content in the future if the remaster garners support.
I hope blizzard moves forward despite the kicking and screaming from folks like you. All you want is for this game to remain a niche and any deviation from that is probably taken as a personal affront or a betrayal.
You can be sure there are more ‘purists’ (that are more purists than me) out there than retcon lovers.
Purists are a dwindling niche demographic.
If Blizzard wanted to pander to them why even bother updating WC3? Obviously they are going to keep playing it.
Blizzard wants more people, the casuals gasp, to play this game. To spend money on it and custom skins for heroes shows microtransactions like in HOTS.
But anyway like I said old WC3 is still gonna be there for you to fawn over.
I dont like ‘old’ WC3 today if I were I was not making ‘HD’ mods for it as I said before.
