The Grom Hellscream problem

So, his name is Hellscream. Hell is a concept from Christian religion from our real world. So why would Blizzard take a term and a concept from a religion and use in a fantasy game? I mean, why would orcs have the idea of hell? It makes no sense.

Are orcs Christian? No. Do they have another religion? Apparently, they believe in woodoo spirits or something like that. But does that religion include hell? Even if it does, why would they name it hell?

It would be like Night elves, instead of having their Goddess, they have Jesus as their God. Why would Night elves believe in Jesus, which is God from a religion from this world. It’s just weird to make Night elves or orcs Christians. Even humans in warcraft believe in hell, which we can see when Uther says “I hope there’s a special place in hell waiting for you Arthas”.

So, in warcraft, humans, Night Elves and Orcs are Christians, apparently.

Sure, it’s not a big deal, but It bothers me, because it’s so freaking weird.

If you say Blizzard just wanted to use the term “hell” because it sounds cool, but they didn’t want to connect warcraft races to Christianity, then I have to ask- then why not as well name night elf Goddess/God- Jesus Christ?
Is it because it would be too weird? Well guess what, “hell” is as weird. It’s actually ridiculous. Heck, they can as well name Uther’s and Arthas’ books- bible! You know those books they have hanging on a chain on their side? Yeah, these are bibles, they are all Christians, and they believe in hell and their God is Jesus.

Facepalm.

Who cares?

Hell isnt just a christian concept. Lots of religions have an underworld type place with demons.
Hell isnt even a word used in the new testament, rather they use the words hades, tartarus and gehinnom.
Christian beliefs are mostly stolen from earlier religions, just as judaism was before them.
So if this were a fantasy world that actually has demons (like Warcraft) its very likely the orcs and humans would have a word to describe these horrible places.

Of course, the other possibility is that Hellscream is an Orcish word which sounds like 2 human words put together but actually means Kodo Smacker.

…when you don’t have any other problems, I guess?

I referenced the most dominant religion, we don’t have to list all of them, because either way, my point stands. And even if in christian religion is stolen, it makes no difference for my point. I’m not arguing about christian religion and it’s origins, you’re missing the point.

As far as what you said about actual warcraft, you haven’t said anything I didn’t say. And I asked- if they have hell, why didn’t Blizzard make Jesus the God of warcraft universe?

Trust me, if Blizzard made Jesus the God in warcraft, everyone would freak out. It’s also weird with hell, but players never thought of it. If you don’t believe me, go get a job in Blizzard and suggest to make Jesus the God in warcraft and watch how many of them they will support you, if no one cares, like you said.

Why Grom Hellscream has “Scream” in his name?
Is he supposed to speak English?
Are you saying that Orcs are English?

And what if the name is actually “Hells” + “Cream”?
That fits with “Grom” as an icecreams firm?

How many times do we have to go back to this again?

There is a cospiration behind it.
I stand my point! With chocolate please.

(sometimes people have really nothing to do…)

considering the fact that Uther said that Arthas will go to hell, it’s obvious that in warcraft, hell is exactly the same thing as it is in our world’s religions, which means- Hell in Grom’s name is much more likely to be hell, and not hells. Let’s be honest, which of the two options was intended by blizzard? Hell scream or hells cream?

And don’t compare hell to any other word, because English has to be used, so we can understand it. I don’t have the problem with hell as an ENGLISH word, but as a concept from actual religion, no matter what language it’s used to name it.

Do you now get the point?

I love that picture. Thank you.

As for the OP… Good bait m8.

His surname is probably a joke for his voice in warcraft 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgteUAI4tZo
It is annoying

Ye but the problem is:
Moonfang: Are you implying that the whole story happens on Earth?
Or is it short for “Moo’n’fang” implaying that the real mount is a cow with lots of theet?
Bronzebeard: Still on Earth? Real world, since there is bronze…
Lightbringer: Is he working for some electricity company or is “Light” intended as opposite to “Hell”? Or is he really working for some electricity company AND opposing Hell and the whole game is a rip-off of Nochnoy Dozor?^^
Winterchill: Are there seasons in this world? Like Earth? How strange…

So, basically:
“Hell” is intended as a place filled by demons, probably as depicted in the banner of MaWangTui, not belonging to any main stream religion.

I guess you don’t have any point so…
and btw
Hells cream > Hell scream^^

We don’t know what hell means to orcs in their mythology. He had the name before he arrived in Azeroth. We’ll just go with it’s basic definition of it being evil and suffering. Maybe his ancestor earned the family name because he used to scream a lot to cause his enemies suffering.

There are many hells in mythos, and the Christian one is still different than the others.

Norse hel is the opposite of fire and brimstone because that’s enemy territory. When you die the last thing you want to do is go to the enemy, so instead you go to a ice retirement home. There isn’t torment but there is a party going on and your not invited. Outside if you wander to far you’ll find a dragon chewing on stuff.

Greek hell or hades does have torment, but the main element down there is wind because there is a monster down there that causes it. It’s not a harmless wind. Air pollution is also a major thing down there. You see the gods breath the best air, mortals breath so-so air, and the underworld gets crap because darkness creates gloom and everyone is breathing that.

Egyptian hell starts on day 1 because to reach heaven you have to run through a minefield of monsters. There is a bouncer at heaven’s entrance as well that will eat you if your not cool enough. To sum it all up, watch gravity falls weirdmageddon because that’s exactly what’s happening. You can hang out with bill and his crew or you make a mad dash for the door and hope you survive.

Actually with being clarified, that Thrall got his name from the human language and even translated to Slave I think you are something on it?
Is this something which whas just established in the early canonless times as rule of cool which you later just can not get out anymore without problems like how Cairne and Thrall first meeting without neither knowing something about the other race and still being able to communicate.
My only explenation for this whas, that for being a Tauren Chieftain you needed to be something like Shaman from the Orcs and so being able to speak Kalimag which whas the language the both leaders intuitive talked to each other.

Yes they are though they are only in Lordaeron and fell victim to WoW limits so they invented the following for Stormwind.
The kingdom of Stormwind is called so because there is always an artificial subtropic climate which is created by Titanrunes that are making the Stormwinds which blow every cold air away.

Well I was just implying that there is no need to say “hell” is not part of warcraft lore, but thx to all the other clarifications^^
Didn’t think about Thrall… it should have been the first example actually^^

Yes, move on and never return, thank you. Good bye. (:
