The Gender Outrage

They were male and female elves, fighting for the human alliance so the humans obviously allowed for it. I didn’t mistake it.

Although I fully agree with female characters, I think it should be mentioned to Blizzard that the correct spelling is “Duchess”, not “Dutchess”, as is present in the name of at least one female DK. This is based on unbreakable lore ;).

Hold on - this whole gender outrage is quite stupid. The mental gymnastics champions told me that gender is fluid and that everyone is everything. So by the mental gymnastics logic, no matter what sex a unit or hero has, it’s not what his gender is. Plus for god’s sake - sex is a product of patriarchy. All you have to do is break away from the damn patriarchy and just think of everything on the screen as any of the 3000+ genders. I mean come on - if you go with the whole male/female dichotomy what happens to all the mental gymnasts that are neither. So in the end - do what everyone else does - ignore reality and just imagine some gender and just identify said unit with it.

My Apologies, I think I should have made it more obvious I was being facetious.
That was not a serious post.

And this is why I keep using the word “sex” over “gender” because the former is the physical nature of a person’s body and the later an identity.
Regardless, let’s roll with the assumption that the vast majority of the human species falls into the two categories of individuals that identify with the same sex as they physically are, it makes sense to be a bit more inclusive on that front (at least).
With other non-binary groupings it’s hard to both be inclusive and yet avoid tokenism which is another can of worms.

Clearly Blizzard is trying to lean further that way with WoW: Shadowlands further adding onto racial human phenotypes for different real-world ethnicities.
(I don’t play Alliance so I don’t give a toss but I like that that also means Wildhammer Dwarves and Sandfury Trolls etc in the other races.)

While I in no way personally directly benefit from this more inclusive push.
I do indirectly benefit:
More people able to identify/resonate/customise in blizzard games to suit them = healthier more diverse community = higher player attraction/retention = greater market relevance = higher chance Blizzard will develop more RTS content in the future.

Not exactly - as shown by the already crumbling movie industry, when you cater to 0.01% of the population, of which alot don’t even play, you lose more than you win. The more they push idiotic social justice stuff for the sake of diversity, the less diverse their community will get, cause except for a few die hard multiplayer fans, most will go - screw this - get woke go broke. Gender is nothing but mental gymnastics that makes psychiatric conditions into normal things. Lets take Warcraft Reforged - people say that if you don’t agree with female death knight of female what ever - you are a sexist. Well the argument is JUST as valid viceversa - if you think having a unit a specific sex - in this case male - is a problem then you are also sexist - being sexist is not one-sex oriented - it goes both ways. You have tons of female heroes or units in warcraft 3 - what is the actual point of adding now different sexes for some units, and why is it only female so far - why not have male priests of the moon, or male sorcerers etc. And where do you stop - if you add both sexes for just a few units/heroes than why not for all units/heroes. And then you have neutrals on the map - do you have to have tities on every troll, ogre, dragon etc now? Who decides what needs to have both sexes and who can stay male or female and why? I’ve been following warcraft 3 content since it was released and the last problem the community had was that the game was not feminazy enough. Again, when you add something you add it for the sake of a purpose - in this case picking and choosing 1 hero here, one unit there and vaginify it doesn’t serve literally no other purpose than virtue signaling, which might go well with a couple of tam.pon wearing males and pink haired feminists but it will alienate more than it will gain.

I hear there are male elves too.

TBH I haven’t seen anyone complain. What outrage are you talking about? The new female DK looks amazing.

Ah yes, this is why Marvel is stupidly rich and making how many films a year? 6 or something dumb like that.

Now I’ll admit that Cpt.Marvel was super obnoxious with its hollow virtue signalling.
I consider myself pretty feminist and that’s exactly why I hated it because it used it’s “social justice” as a crutch to hold up the film’s low quality.
And let’s not even get started on the Ghostbusters film from a few years ago.

But pointing to a dying medium as an example of why a certain trend is “not working” when one of the few big players is mostly surviving on (sometimes garbage) casting a wide net and trying to appeal to different audiences with different genres all in one grand franchise…

Cinemas are likely going the way of the dodo despite all that.
3D and the rising scourge of 4D are the signs of a desperate struggle to live.

A skilled rider can guide a horse without reins, there are many historical examples of mounted archers. I’m not a big fan of the duel wield aesthetic in general, especially when it involves preposterously large weapons, but it’s no more silly mounted than on foot.

Getting back on topic; I think the new DK skin is great and the voice work is spot on, even if I’d prefer a shield to the clumsy looking axe.

People getting upset at the inclusion of a female skin option seems to be very over the top. Has the thought not crossed your mind that female gamers could feel the same way about using a male avatar as you do about using a female one?

I hope to see more options for hero customization added. For the sake of visual clarity I do think there needs to be an option to display only default skins incase some people find they make it harder to identify units at a glance.

Unfortunately, its not just movies that prove the Woke Brigade ruin things.

Look at Comics, look at Anime, look at just about any modern medium and see the effect they have on it. They are a force of destruction.

I like how people are so bothered with changes that have always been happening in the world of entertainment.

This is a situation just like BF V forcing people with aesthetics they don’t like then calling the paying user base bigots. The entire industry saw how BF V did and how much it was good for EA, they are still wiping crap from the floor.

Damn just release the game already and fix rest of stuff later, I am done just want to play.

Whilst there are always a few idiots and a-holes on every side of a debate, and certainly no shortage of crappy films, the implication that any film that promotes equality in some way is awful because of it is way off the mark.

For example; Aliens, widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi films ever made (and a major influence for Starcraft), has a strong feminist sub text.

A lot of the examples people trot out to claim that ‘woke’ ideas are ruining entertainment were likely to be awful with or without whatever ethos they are pushing, as they are simply badly written / acted / directed or whatever.

The thing is that there is a difference between Strong Awesome badass characters that are women, and strong awesome badass characters BECAUSE they are women. Im not trying to detract from female characters as much as I am hating on the latter for being terrible. The former promotes feminist ideals in a way that nobody can dislike because it is done without forcing it. But then you have things like Marvel Comics where all of the old guard who made the stuff everyone thinks is good were forced out by new people, mostly women, who write sonic fanfiction tier garbage and de-canonize the things people loved.

This pretty much hits the nail squarely on the head.
