Again. Custom RoC games don’t work on TFT…
And I was talking about WC3 and Reforged anyway…
That makes sense for LoL. Doesn’t make sense at all for a game that didn’t change at all in the last 13 years.
A server for advertising games? Mmm 30 dollars per year? 50 with a bit more bandwidth? Free if you use an old laptop on the desk of the last employee?
Are you seriously asking it when a community kept alive a whole game for thousands of players FOR FREE for 3 or 4 years?
That’s not cost-benefit analysis. That’s pure stupidity.
Well, at least now we know how much it costs to reach the bottom of metacritics. It’s free!
Do you realize that they are a consequence of different decisions right?
The time since the game was last changed has no relevance on how much sense this makes. Not to mention that we have had patches recently and at least one more is incoming.
You really don’t know what you’re talking about here. Going back to my example, most of us who played Dominion and 3v3 in League made this exact argument, that “it couldn’t be that much” and begged them to leave it running for those that enjoyed it, and their response was they could not justify even the small cost of the server upkeep, because of the stuff I mentioned before: increased QA load and dropping those modes meant that development of future content was easier and less expensive. That applies to Reforged in its development too, especially considering how activision kept taking their money away, the skeleton team had to keep trying to do more with less. So it only makes sense that they cut ROC support- It was far less popular than TFT at the time, would save them money and staff work to discontinue, and would simplify any future development (which there is right now).
Do you realize that it doesn’t matter? Both had lack of popularity as a factor behind their removal. And that’s the whole point.
I like this discussion. I liked Reign of Chaos. It was a great game. But I am also a sucker for Frozen Throne. If Blizzard added an option for players to play Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne again – as they were then – I’d probably use that option and enjoy it, regardless of whether someone else decides if I am right/wrong smart/stupid for doing so, etc.
As I’ve said before, it’s not that I don’t want people to have what they want, not at all. I’m just realistic and I know they took it out for a reason, and for that reason, it’s not likely to return. Ideally I’d like everyone to be able to enjoy the game the way they like to, but since blizzard messed things up, we’re kinda lucky we can enjoy it at all.
No. I rewrote the game so I play Frozen Throne Emulator, a game that I made on my own. This emulator simulates the Frozen Throne experience, like if you built a circle out of minecraft bricks and pretend that it is a circle, even though it is made from discrete square blocks. But then I still get to relive happy memories. I can say my circle of blocks is a circle. So I am still playing the Frozen Throne. I can reject your world in favor of my own.
If a Paladin picks up a Tome of Power in the Frozen Throne experience that I imagine to exist without running Blizzard’s game binary, does it make a sound?
Naaa, why should I? I was just there… where were you?
Want to spread some more lies about how much of a “molehill” (cit.) a server running a game advertising program would cost?
A hint: you can set up one for free…
The Dominion and 3v3 problem is completely different. That would be more expensive. I’m not going to start the argument of how much Riot grinds from players. That’s arbitrary, but that is a different problem.
Those are jokes, not patches. Without Reforged no one would ever needed them.
Whatever…
Your problem is that you are justifying that reason trying to make it look less stupid than it really is.
Welcome to computer graphics! You know that there are no circles, but only segments right?
So despite the one person with the most replies in this thread, claiming NOBODY wants RoC and the only person he knew was me.
Well this thread is starting to gather others. Wonder if he will admit if he was wrong? Doubt it.
I already showed there were thousands of accounts active in just Northrend (not to mention the other realms). Reign of Chaos was loved, by a smaller community than TFT.
But it was still actively being played. With It’s own units, balance, meta and custom games.
What happened was a travesty.
If they hadn’t Reforged the game it would still be being hosted on Battle.net as it had for over a decade.
Anyway as I said since the first post I doubt it will happen.
But one can hope.
That was the whole purpose of this thread to bring some of us together and try to show that It’s wanted at all.
Not this back and forth nonsense with the same person trying to bring it down for being unrealistic.
I the OP said it was unrealistic in my first message. What more needs to be said?
Exaggerating things isn’t going to bring it back. Don’t you think you’re laying it on a bit thick? The balance is fine right now, and I don’t really think it was ever better in RoC, especially since many TFT units were specifically added to address balance disparities.
Again, I want everyone to be able to enjoy the game the way they like, but come on. You talk like it was heaven on earth. War3 has always been a wonderful game, was in RoC, was in TFT, and well, at its heart, it still is in spite of the ten million bugs we have to deal with right now.
RoC was my childhood nostalgia. I never played Pokemon, Zelda, etc. It was WarCraft. Arthas and Thrall were my “childhood heroes”. I loved the campaign and I memorize playing it back then before I could even read. I want back my old balance, my old feeling.
The campaign is still there for you to play. As for the rest, well, its as they say “Nostalgia is a pair of rose tinted glasses.”
The balance really wasnt as remarkable as you imagine it. I mean, that’s just my opinion, to be clear. I don’t have anything against RoC, but in my opinion, TFT improved nearly everything. Plus you have to remember, TFT was pretty much planned from the beginning so they could hit us for another $30. When I go back to the disc install and play RoC, melees against the CPU and the campaign with the old numbers… it just feels incomplete.
