Reforged Retcons Walked Back

When? You mean when I was literally repeating what you said to show how ridiculously selective your statement was? Of course it’s an absurd statement, that’s literally what I was repeating from you.

Jaina has more character in the Wc3 Campaign as a strong independent human leader who actually heeds the warning signs and breaks the mold, than her love-sick-puppy version in the Arthas book written 7 years later.

I agree that some levels could use some modernizing, but the story itself is solid. There’s a reason it spawned so many successful franchises.

Ironic coming from an account with 2 posts. Unless you have some sort of objective statistic about overall sentiment by Wc3 players towards Reforged, I’m going to take it that Blizzard’s done a better job gauging the overall fan reaction (including Discord servers, Hiveworkshop, Epicwar and other forums) than any of us. Most communities that I’ve been active on (primarily the multitude of Discords and Hive) have been pretty anti-heavy story changes. Sorry that you bought the game with the expectation of it being Warcraft 4.

They haven’t said that there are no changes, only that they’re not going through with their Story Retconning which was supposed to “Align the story more with what WoW fans are familiar with, as well as give more of a spotlight to WoW fan favorites like Jaina and Sylvanas.” Or at least that’s all they’ve said so far. We’ll find out tomorrow (hopefully) what this actually means.

great news.
keep wow lore quarantined in wow, don’t let it spread.
loved it.

Luckily I didn’t waste my money on this cashgrab yet. So no worries

Sike apparently they won’t now

The amount of WoW players that come on these forums and spread their agenda is ridiculous. They don’t have any idea how to design a game or write a good story, they just come in and demand everything from a game from 2002 be changed to fit their agenda, just to move back to WoW right after.

Disgraceful.

Truthfully, I wouldn’t be 100% opposed to minor concessions (like the layout of Stratholme, or a different Forgotten One fight since they’re a bit dated), but some of the major changes like making Sylvanas even more of a main character (she’s your only hero in 1/3rd of the Undead Campaign for TFT, and in a 4th level as one of the manageable forces isolated from the others.) She already has more of a role in the series than my boy Kel’thuzad, she doesn’t need even more story focus.

Seems like some people have an ideologic fanatic hate against wow rather than rational arguments…
I do not understand why campaign additions would destroy the game.
And I have the feeling that developers hide their failure behind these fanatics

But I liked the idea of having a more accurate story and I was eagerly awaiting it D:

Same reason why you probably didn’t scroll up and see this answered twice before. They said repeatedly in 2018 that they were not extending the campaign, or adding additional levels. All changes would have been to existing levels, either through edits or straight up replacements.

That’s why I’m against it personally, I honestly have a hard time thinking up any of the levels that could be removed without destroying part of the narrative that’s already there.

More accurate? You realize it’s WoW that got it wrong, and is now the canon because it’s easier to simply overwrite the old than to reverse the new?

No they said that they would like to put sylvanas and jaina more into the spotlight. Why should they delete a mission for that?

Well done. You killed the meaning of this reforging. You can be proud of your work, because all Blizzard’s work went on the road. Are you satisfied now? What prevented you from playing the old campaign in the old game? What is the point now to take a new one when it is no different from the game of 2003?

I was bought the game in a lot for the reason that I was hoping to take a fresh look at the old story. Without all the holes in the plot, without mystical movements of the Hellfire Citadel, without mortal wounds of Illidan and all other inconsistencies with lore. But you managed to turn Reforged into Reskin. Well done. Great job.

I truly hate you.

I don’t realize anything of the sort. It’s their game, so it’s them who decide what’s correct and what isn’t.
But nevertheless, the WC3 missions are incomplete. For example, somepedia says that some elf betrays his kin, and that is the reason for Arthas to be able to breach Quel Thalas. Yet nothing of the sort is shown in the WC3 mission. Arthas is simply interrogating some elf, who tells him he can not breach the city’s defences.

That’s literally what I said.

That’s based on the book Arthas, if you check the sources on that Wiki page, which was made in 2008 if I remember correctly. Wc3 didn’t show it because it was just Arthas murdering his way around till he got the keys to open the gates to Silvermoon. It’s not incomplete in terms of Wc3, it was expanded upon in WoW and later books because there was room for more detail than what they put (like the duels with Anasterian Farstrider).

By that reasoning, WoW is incomplete because it’s been shown in Wc3 that the Taurens were a highly Shamanistic race (relying on Totems and nature spirits) whereas Night Elves were the only ones blessed by Elune and taught by Cenarius how to use Nature’s energies to become Druids.

But y’know, whatever floats your boat man.

Really? Wow I didn’t know I could do that. Guess I better rub it in for Omelette and Co. that Blizz likes me better than them now.

I actually don’t know what you’re trying to say here, sorry. :frowning:

Same reason people wanted Starcraft Remastered, because it’s a game from 2001-2004 and I’d like to play my favorite game, which I’ve played for over 40,000 hours, in better graphics? And I’d like to see what map makers can do with improved tools and support for newer systems?

Uhm, what? And also, you think that WoW lore is gonna fix that?.. Cause I have bad news for you in that regard then… Because WoW was the one that turned a literal ‘destroyed world barren of resources, forcing the orcs to flee’ into ‘Oh this place is pretty nice, outside of like 2 areas you don’t really wanna go it’s pretty alive and boomin.’

Also, Warcraft 3 literally never says what happens to Illidan. You see him get slashed by Arthas, but he’s still alive when Arthas ascends to the throne…

Apparently, Blizzard just decides not to retcon the whole story completely (hopefully and thankfully), meaning that (hopefully) the WoW Stratholme could stay, Anasterian could stay, the ice bridge Arthas conjured to Quel’danas Isle could stay, and Thalorien could stay. That’s good enough for Reforged to not be WoW-ified too much if both sides need to be pleased

Though I wish they made Stratholme like an actual bayside city with actual functioning ports and harbors like it was in WC2

You people come to this game and try to “wowify” everything and say “just play the old game if you don’t like it”, unbelievable.

Thanks to wowzers like you we have Granny Jaina and Retirement Home Thrall as spoils of war skins for the ladder instead of having actual normal young Jaina on a horse and armored Thrall.

You did enough damage to this game already.

Those two skins are amazing especially if they are accessible in the World Editor. Shut up boomer.

It’s because of Warcraft 3 that we have WoW.
So you’re implying that you’re, in a roundabout way, also partly responsible for the “damage” this game has taken.

Au Revoir retcons! You won’t be missed!

That is, you blame me for owning skins that I did not ask for and do not like at all? Here it is a typical face of nochages.

We, like complete fools, hoped that Blizzard knew what they were doing. But it turned out that they are listening to idiots.
