Reasons why the new graphic style will fail

Over animation like they did with WOW. I still like the old character models. AKA orcs rock back and forth when walking, it’s labored instead of natural. on and on.

Gameplay > graphics.

I second that. The new style is great. As much as I loved WC3 back in the day and played a huge amount of it, I’m really glad Blizzard decided to buff the graphics. It really needed it.

Hello, hardly, it has only 1.4 milion views on youtube on their official channel, second is like 1 milion too. Count double viewers, just watcher with no intention to buy game just see it,poor people, kids who dont know use electronic guys and ofc poor people xD and PRE-PURCHASE thing .

For such an amount of money they could built it better tbh

Shininess is good - PBR is good.

Blizz agent.exe approaching

PBR for metal obviously sux , i think you are bored alot until realise comes, i understand it.
I will give a fair exmaple how shiny metal in Reforged look alike :

But actually it should look less shiny, this is the most fair example of it :

PBR FOR METAL SHINE IS VERY EXPENCIVE AND BLIZZ WANT WE HAVE ULTRA SHINY GOLD,SILVER AND DIAMONDS!AND THE BEST LOOK GIVES RUSTY ARMOR! SO CUTE!

Nothing wrong with pbr + stilized style. Metallic can look good, just reduce the reflectantes.

Please for god sake when we talk about realistic and cartoonie do we talk about textures reforged went, proportions only, shape in general,or amunt of details and realistic sculpt they have.
Cause people are using realistic and cartoony without explaining it very well, because of that demo created a chaos in our minds.

Best example is reforged went PBR realistic style, but they did some toy shapes on some buildings.

Also they say they went “realism”, but they put marshmellow armor, thats why people say its “too cartoonie”.

People who want handpaint texture style got mad hearing “cartoonie” for Reforged and they think guy who said this want hardcore realistic style and fihgt starts.

Combining toy shapes, unnatural armor proportions with realistic textures is worst mixture ever.

And the biggest concern is how they will keep that sketchy look old wc3 has (that someone calls it “cartoonie”) with those realistic textures.

I mean for things we all know used to fit with handpaint style it may end up generic, loose its “soul” and if you want give it old charm it may end up like that abomination or this clown xD

So, dont we agree (even this is wow model aniamted with original wc3 anims) that he catch more closer look of original wc3 abomination than that one in first picture ??

X_Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I am afraid for some units they will have to keep generic facless style and kill old wc3 charm, and that makes me very sad…I rly dont know how they will keep that sketchy old wc3 style …

This game need a bit heroic proportions for armor, but some things we saw on some humans is pure madness.

Cause if we talk about Alterac map, ye its nice. But if we talk about about Grunt in that map, its a worse thing i ever saw. Its literally a toy, a chibi model.

About Reforged proportions yes they screwed it totaly both with base body and armor. This is not shooting game or rpg to go proportions like that, and there is a huge reason why wc3 or hots went those proportions…Anyway i hope they find a way to fix it and find some middle between old and new…Its the best we can expect since they chosen it without asking anyone or examine reasons before doing so…

Anyway, i hope we see beta and they create sub-forums and we have art section where we can express what we like or not…

reforged will also feature the standard/classic graphics we all used so far but just improved to modern levels of texture quality (4k or whatever).

if you dont like the weird HOTS look you can use the polished classic look.

Despite that Reforged has no HOTS look at all LOL

Funny thing is the new style will probably make custom content easier to create (for high res look) since PBR is familiar to many 3d artists. Its also much easier for non-3d artists to achieve a high res look.

Old Warcraft 3 Infernal looks like 10 times better then the silly WoW Infernals too!

And thank goodness for that. One reason I usually shy away from playing HOTS is the terrible art style.

That’s funny because that’s the exact evolution of natural warcraft style.

Warcraft is not realistic.

Not true. I’m a 3D artist and style is something artists chose by taste first basically. They tend to learn what they like most to watch. It’s not a rule, though. The thing is this has no relation with your statement. The rate of artists in both styles is virtually the same. Stylized or realistic doesn’t matter for the art world.

Above that, stylized graphics can also be PBR. PBR in practical term means we use ‘real world based values’ for shader properties such as diffuse, metallic, roughness and normal.

PBR values don’t mean necessarily the material will look ‘realistic’, but more ‘plausible’ and ‘believable’ to our eyes.

Overwatch is PBR, even when it’s extremely stylized.

HotS is also PBR.

Dude… I spent atleast 3 months trying to explain this to people… At long last someone with knowladge and thinks the same like me, thank you for your comments really

As i understood PBR is possible with very stylezed handpaintaint asset , also with “photorealistic” source.

1.But what i am interested is it possible with cheap source like this, and if you can explain is this PBR tehnology used in pictures ?

2.What do you think which way Reforged went for units (cause we never see their textures yet) ?

Well said, and I completely agree.

PBR isn’t about achieving any given style, and an artist can adapt to any style given time and practice.

My comments are generally geared towards the modding community and how many people who are not artists are using the art tools to kit-bash new creations, or import models from other games. There is a wealth of models in the community, and many are retextures or kitbashes of existing models, or models imported from other games.

I think with the style they’re going for in Reforged will make it easier to adapt models from other properties in it because the style is more ‘realistic’. Models can be taken from other games, given a new texture treatment and, IMO, could fit in better than if they went for a more stylized approach. Properties like Overwatch and HOTS have a very defined stylized look. I think with the look that Reforged has, it meshes better with any custom models adapted from other games, like say from Doom or Skyrim. Those models lack the unique look that Overwatch has, or the squat proportions that we have in HOTS.

Well thing is community mostly uses Blizzard game to Blizzard game exports, which is allowed and legal as Kam stated it to HiveWorkshop’s staff members that is just one of the reasons for wanting it to be stylised and be in harmony with other Blizz games.

That is true.

Yet even WoW models don’t look right when exported into SC2, for example. The proportion of units in SC2 are much more squat and plump, and the only Blizzard game that looks good alongside SC2’s units are their other RTS/MOBA games.

WoW units imported into SC2 always look weird and out of place, and always need modifying to fit in. I think Reforged’s look will allow WoW and Diablo 3 models to fit a lot better than what we had in SC2.

Let’s hope so that way the mods we made for WC III for years will be in a alot more better shape too and that way we will be able to ‘change when you don’t like a model’ situation.
