Just no changes in the way of anything that’s relevant or impactful. Yeah, making Silvermoon and Stratholme resemble their WoW counterparts is a nice addition and better than nothing, but it doesn’t amount to much if nothing helps with the immersion. I’d expect advancing through the assault on Silvermoon mission to run into Anasterian and have the two exchange insults like ROTLK.
Having Anasterian be nothing but an obstacle to overcome doesn’t do his inclusion justice.
Considering this is all I really expected from them, and I didn’t really expect any major lore-changing elements with that additional content because Warcraft 3 was never outright retconned by WoW to begin with, I’m not disappointed at all.
No, you’re just a white knight, which is why you’ve been teetering between “Purists gtfo, this game is made for the WoW audience” and “WoW audience gtfo, this game is made for the purists.”
You consistently pick whatever stance benefits Blizzard the most.
But how couldn’t you? It’s what we were told. It’s what was advertised.
They said for instance that with the help of Christie Golden they would include lines from ROTLK to better reflect the thoughts of characters like Jaina, and in that case it would’ve set up Arthas’ showdowns with Anasterian and Kael in an epic way. They said for those who only want the original voices that it would be an option. Literally nothing would have affected the purists.
You know what, you might find solace in knowing they won’t ruin it.
I for one would never expect them to expand upon Arthas vs Kael’thas - they already have two dialogues in SD, two! One’s being in a cutscene. And they even mention Jaina in a subtle and non-intrusive way.
I don’t see what precedence there was for it to have been ruined. They add the established lines from ROTLK and have Laura Bailey (Jaina) or Patrick Seitz (Arthas) voice them.
Ah, ruining stuff is incredibly easy. A thousand ways to do it. Improper timing, weird place, etc. And how do you animate it? Kael will never use Felo’melorn, don’t even ask.
It’d ruin the flow of the story because this is a real-time strategy video game, not a novel. We need to keep things focused on the actual major events at hand for the sake of player engagement.
Random in-game cinematics where Arthas and Jaina bang each other in the woods don’t exactly translate well to gameplay. Just take solace in the knowledge that just because you don’t see it in Reforged, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
I wanted to see them roll up their sleeves and dig into things more. Even if they step back to keeping things more 1:1 I would’ve liked to at least see the execution change.
The hand-animated (rather than stock unit animations) cutscenes were a welcome breath of fresh air. I’d still like to see them even if it’s just using the old voices and dialogue. I think the multi-billion dollar company can afford to delay the game a bit.
