Im taking this tho
Itâs okay to be inspired. Itâs not okay though if your game almost entirely based on a different game and every character just speaks âLook,Iâm abomination! Look Iâm Jaina! Look,Iâm Uther/Arthas! Iâm Goul! Iâm Kael!â
Thatâs a given, I love that he mentioned star wars back there when there is this little thing⌠you know pretty pretty pretty pretty obscure show⌠that barely has any fans⌠Star Trek?
Why did they lose the lawsuit then?
But DotA2 characters donât say those things? They did in WC3 because thatâs what the engine offered. Youâd have a point if the dev said âHey, this game is mine and Iâm going to sell it using the WC3 engine.â But they didnât. The took the idea elsewhere, changed the characters while keeping them inspired from DotA, and made DotA2. Different engine, different characters, inspired on the previous game.
Same reason as everyone loses lawsuitâs to China
âWellâŚUmâŚThatâs a slightly different design here, and a name andâŚUmâŚâ
China doesnât the same laws you idiot. Why do you think the stuff the rip off stays on their side of the world for the most part? Its because they are legally out of reach from America. Jesus christ how can you be so dull?
Most of the time they donât âloseâ the lawsuits, because there are not even lawsuits. Here were were talking about 2 american companies involved in a lawsuit in which Valve came as the victor.
What youâre defending is Blizzard having complete ownership of Death Knights, Elves, Gyrocopters, Purple elementals, Water Elementals, Dwarves, Knights, Large hammers, etc etc. Youâre trying to say Blizzard creatively OWNS all of that lol. Some insight: they didnât invent any of it. They made it look different, changed itâs name, and made a game. Just like DotA
Oh look, someone was enspired by Pokemon Go! Ńhttps://i2.wp.com/cdnssl.ubergizmo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Pokemon-China-640x356.jpg?resize=640%2C356&ssl=1
But Dota stole concepts,poses,designs,gameplay,some lines
Imagine youâre drawing a human with black hair and brown eyes. Someone just copied your art, pose and style just make him blond with green eyes and mustache and told everyone âthis is mine!â. Yet same pose, same propotions, same design

But that isnât what happened.

Are you going to try and tell me Blizzard owns spiders?
zhttps://imgur.com/a/Fu6WOzk
Does blizzard own Skeleton Archers?

Swordsmen who wear red?
Yeah thatâs chinese rip off, and they can get away with it because of their laws. ANd if that gets out of china, then it gets shut down there by nintendo, and thatâ0s why that stuff only really reamains in china, on its core. Its so frekaing hard to comprehend?
Again here we are talking about something that happened on this side of the world and that was resolved in court.
Do you know right that if you kill an animal and then pretend to move its paws it doesnât actually make it alive right?
Oh wait, probably you should do it in HDâŚ
Oh, grayed out. WhateverâŚ
ah⌠kidsâŚ
Believe me, no one was happy when Valve published a version of an incomplete game promoting it with a 1kk dollar prize won basically by cheaters.
(Yes that game was funny but in a REAL game everyone would have fun and then admit defeatâŚ).
BUT
It was Blizzard that completely ignored the hundreds of requests to make DotA an official map for years.
Icefrog has been just employed by Valve, which could have change models or anything, but they tried to make the game as recognizable as possible. The also tried to imitate LoL in any possible way when they realized their money greed wasnât enough^^
The originality of DotA has been lost 10 years ago.
Oh and donât forget that we passed from âelitistâ clean games to 12yo @@@@@@@@ Elo Hell.
People were hoping that Reforge would have brought people back to rebuild that old environment. Hearing that Valve with Dota2 achieved something better, just hurts the hears, but with reforged, I must say, itâs true. Sadly. Very sadly.
Canât tell if trolling or ignorant, lol.
Going to need a source on this as well
Why should I trust them to fix it? They already delayed the release and released it unfinished as is.
Why should I condone this behavior as acceptable?
HOW IS THAT BALANCED
You guys do realize that the original Warcraft. Warcraft 1 for intensive purposes, was actually being developed as a Warhammer Game? Games Workshop didnât want to do it, so they instead just developed their own game, called Warcraft?
Sucks for Games Workshop⌠If they only would have went forward with the Warhammer game, we would not even know of Warcraft!!! We wouldnât have Diablo or anything like that, just more Warhammer stuff.
Do you think Blizzard went and gave Games Workshop any money because they basically ripped off their universe like one of those b movies that always comes out with a slightly altered name of a triple a movie title? (IE: War of the Worlds vs the Knock Off Bootleg B Movie, Battle of the Planets) Hell no they didnât. But yet they have the audacity to claim ownership of any custom games made in their editor.
Itâs pure greed. Itâs absolutely counter productive, and to be honest, it only hurts the games industry because any up and coming modders who wanted to develop something for WC3 custom mode are now turned off because nobody can ever get anywhere with it like DOTA.
They killed the only incentive Custom Map Makers and Modders had to create anything⌠Itâs on any modders mind when they make a true classic. âMaybe I will get noticed, get some recognition, this will further my career, etc.â Now they canât even claim they did it on their freaking RESUME as part of the EULA because itâs BLIZZARD IP.
Itâs like they would rather ride their greed train into the ground than ever give anyone anything. Like seeing a starving child on the street, offer to pay them in grains of rice for hard unsafe labor, while you are carrying a literal bucket full of leftovers for your dogs, who are already full, from dog food.
Rather than give him your leftovers, you pour gasoline on them and light it on fire in front of them. Because all you care about is cheap labor, high profits. Compassion doesnât exist.
You used to be âGames, By Gamers, For Gamersâ. Now itâs just âLies, to gamers, for profit$$$$$$$$$$.â
I just requested a refund for my WoW Shadowlands Expansion super expensive edition as well as WC3 reforged, and unless Blizzard SPLITS from Activision, rehires most of itâs legacy staff, and becomes PRIVATELY OWNED COMPANY AGAIN, I will never purchase another Blizzard product, EVER AGAIN.
I can deal with âWe thought you guys would like this, apparently it sucked, weâre sorry.â If it was actually genuinely a good idea, with alot of work put in to make it work." But blatantly lying to customers in a big globally televised event and in interviews, but then sneakily removing stuff after everyone already pre-ordered, to where you literally didnât do anything but hire an asian child labor sweatshop to do the minimalistic model swap that you actually did do? Thatâs the last straw for me.
Itâs not me Blizzard, itâs you. And I already know you donât care. You havenât for years. But when your well dries up, and you wonder what happened. Iâm going to be the guy that punches you in the balls and says YOU KNOW WHYYYYYYYYY!
Yep, I actually told our fanboy over here that exact story about warcraft and warhammer. here.
I felt the need to add in.
DotA 1 is built using the WC3 world editor. The world editor allows a person to alter the core functions of a game, it also provide a UI - which both limits the work and adds a base functionality to a map.
The only âblizzardâ content in DotA is the models (not sure if all models are from blizzard, or if some are user made), the item icons and the core movement, collision and primitive game rules.
Now on to what is not from blizzard:
- The goal of DotA is to level up, gear up and kill the enemy infrastructure, in wc3 (melee maps) the rules follow the standard rts rules
- A player only controls a single unit (some exceptions exist)
- Players in a group coordinate their team to finish the goal. The gamestyle is more similar to hunting rather than the rts gamestyle.
- Heroes in DotA have different abilities compared to the wc3 abilities. Sure, the base ability is from some wc3 spell/ability, although the permutation of that ability do not exist, or is used in a different context
- Items contain custom benefits and have the ability to combine into stronger items
There are many more unique features and core functionalities in DotA which do not exist in wc3 melee maps.
This new ToS from Blizzard mean that anything made using the wc3 world editor belong to Blizzard. The ToS basically say that whatever creativity you make using the world editor as a platform, no matter how different it is from wc3 itself, will belong to Blizzard. If you make a 3:rd person spaceship battle, with customized flight control, replace the standard wc3 UI into your own UI and make the game look and feel completely like a new game, this map, its IP, copyright, content etc. WILL BELONG TO BLIZZARD.
A map editor going to this extent is doing so to challenge the boundaries of the wc3 world editor. This is the creativity that Blizzard is removing from the community.
Back to my first mentioning, and why I felt the need to comment. You mentioned that the characters in DotA 2 are rip-offs from DotA 1. This is not completely true. They are not rip-offs, they are based on the models used in DotA 1. Due to the fact that DotA 2 is created by the same creator from DotA 1, and that DotA 2 is in fact meant to be a standalone version of DotA 1, the models must look similar to allow this transition.
The models in DotA 2 are however NOT the models from DotA 1.
Not to mention that around the time Dota was created, the engine was even more limited
