Found a working Map protector Btw h ttps://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/extprotect-v0-1-2-0b.93038/#resource-66281
I didn’t ever heard of many maps banned from sc2 and I played a ton of them
HOW much wanna devs kill their own game…
Restriction like these pratically ban creativity of map makers/modders/indie devs which wanna use this engine as starting point…
No offense but these copies of many same type of maps is something which brings sometimes very good experience and enjoyment… (own, ideas, changes…, original ways how to deal with same goal of map…)
Yea there are a few lame ways like 10x gold faster maps or exp but that’s like with private servers of any mmo games… this is just smaller and nobody say that player must use that…
I can only hope they will change view on this topic… otherwise this game will have very soon own grave and we will just stuck on private server or own made bot servers just to play something we like and love… (only can hope that they won’t start hardcore chase also that…)
If you want to make a mod, you can. But I will have to stay In Warcraft 3. They don’t want another DotA to happen. And to a point I don’t blame them. Also custom maps like lord of the rings are still being played. Hell about and hour ago I played it with a pal of mine.
Why you can’t use idea from mod created here as starting point of your own game/app ?
It’s same like you used some engine for create app (Godot, blender, unity, GUI suported program languages…)
They haven’t any damage from that… why ? Because it’s all free… you bough a game with multiplayer support…
you don’t pay blizzard for games which made some gifted fan which wanted make own map/game…
You can use it as a starting point, the issue with DotA is the the first game, made with the Warcraft engine. Value at that time didn’t care what blizzard said or did and make Bank of it. It’s a company, they want to make money. Does that make them soulless? Sure. But the devs? No! What I’m saying so that doesn’t happen again. I suggest stop treating blizzard as a being who once had a soul. The individual people in that company made it seem like it had a soul.
DotA is one map… one mistake from both sides i would say… and it also didn’t start or stop making another MOBA games… (search history…)
Devs/teams/or generally greedy people (whatever suggest that idea…) want monopolize something which was made with same purpose as newer Elder scroll series modding… - That pratically will kill game…
Add these restriction is like kill soul of developer
Well… about dota… it is not original, the idea was ripped from sc1 AoS. And I still can’t understand why people say that dota was a mistake, it just makes no sense to me at all.
The only mistake was not to invest in the mod after it became notorius, which companies like riot, garena and valve did.
WE and modding community allowed MODS become ESPORTS further creating a lot direct and indirect jobs and it also shaped the next competitive gaming gen. If devs get frightened with the ToS they simply won’t make content in this platform and that’s it.
It is, though.
Doesn’t mean we agree with it.
Can always use a map protector so others can’t easily open your map to see how you made things
Just to add that a gamer in dota 2 made a map ( Autochess ) which become very popular and Valve collabed with the gamer ( they paid him ) and made Dota Underlords. Thats how u do it, either u paid the map maker for license or share % of the money revenue.
Bad move by Blizzard.
I wont be surprised if after few tries they will get banned haha. Its activision blizzard, we dont know what to expect… we have to expect everything.
Yeah, and it’s tumor Activision killed it
Let’s be honnest, any decision, game, patches … made by blizzard since a few years is just a mistake of its own. While I used to be a blizzard fan, buying all their game no matter what, I just leave the ship to sink on his own
or somebody (like Activision part or any spy) wants to harrass it, make weak and consume.
Im still gonna host and play this kind of maps. If im gonna be banned - ok, nothing to worry about, the game is trash anyways.
Its trash, but its still 30 (40 for SoW) euro. If they will really ban players for such things and steal money from them like that, they will become ultimate cancer of gaming industry.
Can we already have Last Hope
Last Stand, kind of discord server to preserve that map makers community.
Wc3 was my one of first games, i clearly remember that i couldn’t figure out how tu build heroes, and melee was too hard for me. (but i managed to click on every upgrade in compaign - sometimes i was fine) i was like six y.o.
and you know i played customs of wc3 a big part of ma life.
You know, we should just grab all map makers into one disco server, and create WorldEdit “Standalone”. opensource, and just make a game only for customs. Free servers. Just for ppl that come to play “maps”.
ppl just need servers and maps to play it.
game won’t die like any steam staff, cuz there will be people just playing recent popular map - thats all.
MapMakers unite!
Whats wrong with the campaign. Been playing it. seems fine to me.
Simply put, this does not fly in any country, even the US. The purpose of the intellectual property clause is to ensure you do not try to resell custom maps using Blizzard content.
Now, if you have a campaign that becomes bigger than Warcraft III itself, you can take the story, ideas to freely add to your own content, but you cannot associate it with blizzard IP in any way, meaning you’ll have to make your own map all over again, own models etc.
But no, Blizzard cannot reap benefit from your ideas without your direct permission, unless you continue to leave those ideas on their platforms. Which is a problem, because good luck convincing everyone else who has downloaded your story to delete it and not use it.
