For all of you aspiring map makers

I don’t know. I’ve heard differently.

Hell I’ve heard that there really isn’t a difference between socialism or communism, that they’re actually the same thing. But who the hell knows anymore.

I’m just glad I backed up my Patch 1.31 installation, I won’t ever be updating to 1.32. Screw that.

Me in 2010: Wow custom maps are so cool. Blizzard will never kill wc3.

Blizzard in 2020: Hold my beer!

Actually on socialism and communism being the same I’ve done some digging and it’s essentially a two-sided thing. The first part is that communists took socialism and twisted it into something else while claiming it was inspired by socialism, and then capitalists (or at least those who benefited the most from capitalism) took advantage of that to say that socialism is just a disguise for communism.

Basically the communists ruined the term socialism and then capitalists perpetuated that idea so people would feel like capitalism was the only system which could ever possibly work.

…That sounds like it could easily have happened actually.

That’s the explanation I ended up with after I did some reading on the subject. I believe that capitalism holds worthwhile ideas but I think that the belief that full on capitalism is the only functional model is one intentionally spread by those who didn’t want to deal with competing economic systems, like a company trying to enforce a monopoly.

And monopolies are bad for competition. They’re also bad for innovation, mostly because without competition there’s no need to innovate.

Indeed. Somewhat ironically those who benefit the most from capitalism, i.e. those at the top, probably believe less in the virtues of capitalism than most, because once they’ve reached the top they want to rig the system so they don’t have to worry about competition any longer.

Even though that competition is what gives capitalism its economic edge, as it pushes people to innovate and improve.

It’s companies like Disney, EA, Activision, and now Blizzard that give capitalism a bad name.

Agreed. This is why regulation is important, to ensure that there’s healthy competition. And that’s why those big companies invest a lot of money into minimizing regulation.

Yup, because lack of competition is better for their bottom line.

This is what happens when all you care about is the money and not the quality of the product.

Pretty much.

“late stage capitalism” is verging on meme levels at this point. If you use it, be very very careful, cause you’ll be coming off as a clown in no time.

Except capitalism and the over-consumption is destroying life, it’s not gonna for much longer. Another reason capitalism will fail is for the same reason as why communism did - corruption.

I don’t know what to tell you man. You’ve got a really bleak outlook and coming from a guy that thinks 95% of the human population are morons, that’s saying something.

LOL, no way in hell this stands up in court, and Blizzard are morons to try and do it.

This is in the same vein as the Fine Brothers trying to trademark the word “react”. You can’t own the ideas or expression inside of somebody else’s head, nor can you not offer credit or compensation for the work of another person, regardless of the means. That’d be like Napa Auto Parts trying to copyright brake pads or tires because people buy them there.

Corporatism and cronyism are essentially expressions of capitalism without the important brakes of ethics and morals that make capitalism viable.

In other words, exactly as Wolfy and me said earlier, capitalism unchecked.

Capitalism is good. I love it. But only when it’s regulated so that monopolies can’t be formed.

So never? Great way to get the thread locked away with the nonsensical tangent about communism. All of this stupid nonsense is from being slaved to your investors in a profit at any cost vicious cycle. We’re currently in the stage of squeezing blood from stone because it’s a finite market. This is your beloved [insert ism here] in action.

So what economic model do YOU suggest?

Note: If you unironically suggest communism I’d recommend you get a real education.

Blizzard screwed up again.
