Hey folks,
For most players who are having this error message, we’ve found that one of the following things is most often true:
- The computer does not meet the minimum system requirements
- The operating system or graphics drivers are out of date
- A security program is blocking the game client from launching
- A different background application is blocking the game client from launching - particularly ones with overlays or which modify game/mouse/graphics driver settings
- There is corruption of your admin account or registry.
There are also a couple bugs which we’re looking into which may cause the game to crash on launch with certain machines, but the steps above should still fix most situations. A work around was mentioned earlier to set the game into windowed mode. While we don’t consider this a “fix” in the event you’re running into a bug, here’s a better way to put the game in windowed mode. I’ll update the post above with these better steps, since the preferences file is not created until the game successfully launches:
- Open your
Battle.net application
and select theWarcraft III
tab - Click the
Options
gear (above the news widget) and clickGame Settings
- Scroll down to
Warcraft III
in the list and click theadditional command line arguments
box - In the blank that pops up, add
-windowmode windowed
- Click
Done
and retest the game
