Removed a lot of features. Ranking, / commands, glitchy/buggy campaign. Not remastering cut scenes except for the intro cut scene which gave a false sense of everything being remastered.
Just for that riptor guy knows, some sources mention that they were trying to close the old TFT servers since they don’t want to waste more money on maintenance, yet doing so will kill the game outright. So they make Reforged to achieve two goals: earning more money and not wasting any more money.
I agree we should appreciate their efforts, but they literally have one year and two extra months to make the game good. What you are saying is like every student should get an A because they turn in something, even if it’s a blank paper or high-quality work. But that’s not how society works is it?
It warrants it because it was done in a shady manner. People don’t like feeling like they got hustled.
I do agree that the Classic games and Reforged should have been separate, however that is probably not possible to do and have cross compatibility.
Now everyone plays from the same game - Reforged - it’s just if you’ve paid for it you get the HD assets. One code base to maintain rather than two.
However, cross compatibility is maybe not worth what the Classic games have lost. I think perhaps making Reforged completely separate so it isn’t tethered to the old game at all would’ve been the best decision.
The Reforged game could have been crappy on its own and it wouldn’t have been as important because people could just refund it or appreciate what they got.
The big issue boils down to the fact that people who played classic got shafted. People who bought the game nearly two decades ago suddenly have lost huge chunks of the game to an update which was supposed to improve the game. Improved graphics should not come at the expense of sacrificing parts of the game.
It feels like people who defend the Reforged release are reasoning backwards, starting off with the thought that the Reforged release is good and because of that any complaints are negligible or unimportant.
Well, I can see a similar line of reasoning with people who attack the Reforged release; starting off with the presumption that the Reforged release is terrible and ruined everything, overlooking any positive aspects of it, and exaggerating the game’s negatives (Often just making up stuff to complain about; claiming that Blizzard made promises that they never did, or claiming that X feature is absent from the game when it’s not actually absent).
A lot of the complaints seem to be driven by emotion and mob mentality rather than logic. There’s little in the way of constructive criticism or reasoned critique here; just some variation of “Everything is terrible, you ruined everything”.
The difference would be that while there are people crying havoc without much rhyme or reason there are also people who have compiled lists of features which Reforged doesn’t have which Classic did have.
I’ve yet to see someone prove that the Reforged version isn’t missing features. Mostly it boils down to people dismissing and denying everything.
From my perspective the people who have been voicing objections have been more thorough in actually making their points even if they occasionally get ahead of themselves.
EDIT: also as WinterDryad points out and what things keep boiling down to is that people who played Classic and didn’t buy or want Reforged got an update forced on them which is hindering their ability to play a game they bought 18 years ago. Which I also mentioned in my previous post but which apparently got overlooked.
So, ok:
Reforged pros:
new graphic… no wait, button is grayed out.
Let’s try again.
Reforged pros:
new sounds… no wait, button is still grayed out.
Again
Reforged pros:
Now, have you ever heard about “Do not change what is not broken?”
With Reforged they had the chance to ADD things to something that was already great.
They just ended up REMOVING things that people already payed for.
I agree on the promised rants, they are exaggerated, but you also must agree that there was no need at all for many of the changes they enforced with this release.
Can’t post links for some reason. Anyway,

Shouldn’t the lead producer, Pete Stilwell, speak up what went wrong? This wasn’t the product I was expecting either . Take a look at the features (updated UI) and cut-scenes on the on the official page
If this is not mis-leading advertising, I do not know what is. And I am a marketer by profession…
Where do I begin on this… Setting aside the visual bugs of some units with old skins, units not talking, no attack animations etc. the game itself is not stable.
The new graphics are great … for a picture. If you play with them you can’t tell what is happening most of the time. Units and structures changing colors is also a cool new “feature” blizzard introduced to add to the confusion on the battlefield. Terrain is poisoning your eyes with it’s sharp colors in the mean time while you get your occasional lag spike when you select buildings or units. Campaign is undercut with a lot of lazy work on the cinematics (if you can call it that) which basically represents an ingame scene of a few units and subtitles and voice acting than an actual cinematic. Arthas/Illidan fight was well you know what it was. Not better than TFT.
The list goes on and on…
But why did it come to this ?
-poor project management
-extremely poor funding distribution (obviously thy wanted to make a lot of money with investing as little as possible like making paint from a fart)
-extremely poor feedback reception from the closed “Beta” testers (players weren’t able to voice their concerns properly and nobody was there to listen)
all this roughly translates in impudence, arrogance and false entitlement to their name from Blizzard - RIP Jan 2020.
Does it mean developers spent 4+ hours on reworking the cut scenes?
You’re missing how the internet likes to jump on the insanity bandwagon and hate on what’s popular to hate.
There’s plenty of reasons to be upset with the state of Blizzard, but these people are just jumping on whatever the latest meme is because that’s what’s cool. That’s basically what’s going on.
The gameplay experience is worse than the classic one. Smoothness is a great issue which does not exist in the original version.
clans with over 100 players who play daily, a global championship yearly, and about a thousand youtubers who release daily youtube videos that get thousands of views… it was never dead… but i see your logic…
here is the problem, i play this old game i got on release back in 2002 and all is good and boom… one day it tells me you need a 26gb update for a game that used to be about 2gb with some custom maps etc. it doesnt matter if i play online or offline and maybe my pc is really old and its one of the few games it can handle that i enjoy… now all of a sudden the game i played for 18 years does not work on my pc any more… ok thats still fine ill buy a gpu and a few sticks of ram but no… get online and where are my 18 years worth of stats??? where are my clans??? where are my friends that i had for year???
so i guess its just a game…
but… you buy an iphone… you take pictures on it for 18 years… you back it up to icloud and your mac regularly one morning you wake up and its busy updating…
once updated you realise all you content is gone and when you open icloud it says: congratulations this is the new ios so all your stuff is gone and you cant use the apps you had until we bring them back, if we do at all… you go to your mac to get your pics and it tells you: sorry this backup is no longer supported due to the new version of ios being out…
thats what blizz did wrong here… if its just the people who bought it then fine… but the people who did not opt in or even want the update just got screwed…
The keybinds is coming… As for the UI… I don’t think they should make changes that make the game 10x easier. Part of the gameplay of this game wasn’t supposed to change.
I still have the original WC3 running right now. I’m not exactly sure how you managed to get your copy wiped out and are unable to reinstall and update a 18 year old game.
Also, I didn’t realize that there were still people playing on the old battle net. I thought everyone who took the game seriously were using a completely different service.
I bet some things are never coming back like some removed unit quotes I hear about, such as one of the dryad jokes. Odd we don’t have options for the older better paced cinematics that still age well today compared to the rushed awkward cartoony feeling new ones. But maybe that’s just me
They added Grid hotkeys and custom hotkeys, neither of which existed in the old version of Warcraft 3.
It’s just a weird coincidence then that my custom hotkeys file contains keys for some weird 2011 version of DotA. Game probably found the map in my old map folder while updating to reforged and auto-generated hotkeys for it or something and it’s definitely not that custom hotkeys have been a thing since forever.
guys i buied the game but i can play whit the reforged mode in the video options dont let me choose the reforged mode what happen? what should I do?
They won’t do that though
