1.36.2.21498 broken on mac

Sending out the latest patch before the press conference may be the best option, I think so

A maintenance this long can have people expecting something big, so for the people’s sake, I hope there’s something obvious done with the front end. If the Mac fix is included, that will at least be something visible.

Outside of that, it’s certainly possible that it could all be back end. People expecting something big could be disappointed.

Hopefully not.

I think the main expectation right now from Mac users is been able to access the game hahaha

100% agree!

I’ll be blown away if the Mac fix isn’t included. Lol. Granted, they did say “next week” so if not two more days isn’t too bad.

Okay, as one of the people that very enthusiastically watched this topic, I’d like to give my update for it.

The new update is both working and not working :

  • It works: Because the executable is now included in the updated version and when you press the “Play” button, the game actually starts!
  • It doesn’t work: Because immediately after start, I get a pop-up that says there is a new version of the game and there is only one button that says “Download Update”.

The game version is right now 2.0.0. The version that the game wants me to update to is 2.0.0.22365 :upside_down_face:

Oh one more thing! When the game launches, I get only black screen even though I hear the sounds. I then switch to another window (via Cmd + Tab) and go back to Warcraft III and the visuals are there.

So overall, I can’t play the game. But at least, the Mac build problem seems to be gone

the game has been updated and fixed, you all didn’t have to call them criminals while they were busy updating and upgrading the game. We all had a right to be frustrated that we Mac users couldn’t play. but such harsh judgements aren’t fair!

Umm does it work for you SilverArmy? I am encountering a version problem when I launch the game. I mean, it launches . But I still can’t play

No well it kept saying it needed to be updated and haven’t been able to access the game, but at least it launches now. We will see when its officially fixed. i have been patiently waiting, (without whining.) playing Starcraft and Gmod. So when its finished its finished.

I have the same issue after the update, same as hyucm above.

The game launches but immediately goes into a “black screen” state, and if you cmd+tab and navigate back to the game, you can see a message asking you to update to version 2.0.0.22365. And then it crashes.

I guess we have to wait for another update.

we need to open up support tickets again… maybe they don’t test it on Mac and are not aware that the game is unplayable.

meanwhile dust off your old windows laptop/pc. best fix atm

Well, still broken. Game launches (as it did for me with the old application) but then says you need an update, to which there is none and then the game closes.

It seems like is not tested in Mac… which is crazy for a big tech company

“ * Mac

  • Fixed an issue preventing Mac users from launching the game.”

Patch notes say it’s fixed meaning they release what they thought was a fix version…

Yeah your quite right. it still wont launch. its frustrating i know, but we have to be patient, warcraft will return to us. just hold out a little longer and have faith.

Yes it says to update, even though we already did. They have a lot on their plate from the 30th anniversary. we have to be patient a little bit longer.

As someone who works on a big tech company as a PM, I agree with a certain level of patience but also if my product had a bug that blocked users from accessing it for a month, it would have been a main priority heavily test that fix.
It really seems like there is no quality process at all when it comes to Mac releases. Makes you wonder if they need to do some Right-sizing with their teams

PM here too, not Agile what so ever, not listening to the customer feedback, not being transparent, seems like no beta testing was done. Did fix the lauch issue for mac although falls apart with the black screen post - launch > cmd +tab and selecting from doc brings back the UI then. prompted with an update 2.0.0.22365 is needed which doenst exist on Bnet yet. Probably failing all metrics only one OKR was met in that it launches what an MVP.

It won’t let me play campaign or offline or anything only options and exit game

Ive been devops engineer for many years and held off saying anything until now. The fact it took them 1.5months to push an update out is completely unprofessional. Then for them to not even test that the fix is working and believe it is working is just absolute incompetence.

People say be patient etc etc, but lets just say it how it is. Their processes of how to release software is a complete joke on Mac. They are either purposely hiring cheaper labour to save money and the engineers are too inexperienced, or they are hiring engineers for the wrong reasons like “diversity quotas” and not based off of merit.

A strong engineer would have 1. never let something like this happen in the first place or 2. would have resolved whatever the issue was within a very short amount of time e.g. 1-2days.

All they had to do was redeploy a release for both windows and mac that was a version bump from the previous release where basically nothing changes for windows, and mac gets its “tested” fix in. But no, instead they waited until their major release, didnt even test the fix and now will probably be another 1-2 months before their next attempt to fix it.

I imagine this post will hurt a bunch of peoples feelings because I didnt say it in a nice way.
