Download Settings... Download Failed + menu slowness

I’m seeing exactly the problem as linked above, but the topic was previously closed without any resolution being mentioned. First, when launching Starcraft: Remastered, it’ll try to download settings from the cloud as usual, but these days it is failing 100% with “Download Failed”. After that the menu would freeze with every interaction. In particular, trying to open my own profile on Bnet will guarantee a permanent hang of the game.

My connection is wired and the internet works fine. This failure is repeatable indefinitely so I do not believe this is a spottiness issue. The issue linked above suggests that Blizzard found some bug related to downloading settings from the cloud. Any updates on that?

What I’ve tried (and failed)

  • Turning firewall off on both Windows and the router
  • Reinstalling Battle.net launcher and SC:R
  • Removing all the Bnet and Starcraft-related folders in %APPDATA% %LOCALAPPDATA% %PROGRAMDATA% and Documents/Starcraft

The fact that this seems to fail when trying to fetch/download things from the cloud (opening any player profile is a guaranteed hang) suggests to me that the problem is very likely server side.

Update: OK yesterday at least I could play some ladder games as long as I stayed away from clicking profiles, but today every single ladder game ends up getting error 50:6 which is already reported here: An error occured while trying to find a match (Error 50:6)

Note that this is not the 50:7 issue which is caused by mismatched maps which I already fixed manually. So at this point I can’t play the game at all.

Update 2:

OK I think I finally found a valid workaround:

%LOCALAPPDATA%/Temp is where I missed. Deleting that entire folder fixed the problem for me. (I tried deleting just the blizzard browser cache, didn’t work). Now the download failed error is gone, menu slowness is gone and I finally can play ladder games.
