How does the computer player always know where I am? Don’t they have fog of war? I’m playing on 256X256 maps and the moment they have shuttles they head straight to me.
EDIT: And they know where the gaps in my defenses are. I would build turrets in one place, they would attack elsewhere, I would go back to a previous save and build turrets there and they would attack somewhere else.
ANOTHER EDIT: Also I’m playing melee so I’m their only enemy.
In SC1 the computer automatically knows what structures you have and where they are located. So as soon as you make a structure the computer knows both the location and whether it also has to add detection or anti-air to its composition. It does not know anything about what units are in your army or where they are. The computer does not analyze your defense however. It will just take the most convenient path to your structures regardless of whether it’s a defensive structure or a building without an attack. Most of the time it’s happy to just charge right into your defenses.
That seems really unfair, and it sucks if your playing multiple opponents. I kind of hoped they would spend a few minutes trying to find me while I got my force built up.
EDIT: By the way, thanks for answering. I get the impression not a lot of people use this forum.
Yeah, the computer can be rough. The first attack hits especially hard so it’s worth it to put up a defensive structure or two at the entrance to your main base for them to charge into(not something that works as well against human opponents). Survive that attack and you’ll likely be ahead with economy, tech, and army. As long as you keep building up and taking more bases you can usually stay ahead and deal with each wave the enemy sends your way.
And, yeah. This forum doesn’t get a lot of attention. The TeamLiquid forums and the Brood War subreddit are a lot more active but most of that is geared towards serious competition rather than the campaigns or custom matches against the computer.
