No, we really are not all waiting for that.

The 8-worker start creates more problems than it solves. + Faster Gateways then Zerg can Inject.
The current game is in a good place and does not need such a drastic change.

If Blizzard doesn’t change the worker count, it will kill the game. WoL/HoTS had a SIGNIFICANTLY higher player base, which you can see very clearly in the metrics.

The problem, was the game company THOUGHT people enjoyed it due to F2P / Covid, and unfortunately because of these events, the worker change didn’t happen sooner than later because they got the wrong idea as to why the player count exploded.

I won’t deny that the current state of economy in the game feels a bit stale, but also LotV is about 11 years old, and sc2 is about 16 years old, with f2p being about 9 years old.

This means the entire eras of WoL and HotS were within the first 5 years of the life of sc2, less than a third of its whole lifetime so far. F2p has been out for almost twice the amount of time as the WoL and HotS eras combined. The frequency of patches also greatly dwindled quite some time ago. It would be very surprising and out-of-the-ordinary for a game this old to have the same amount of player activity as it did in the first few years of its popularity.

That isn’t to say it’s impossible to happen, it just shouldn’t be expected, and the worker count itself is unlikely to be a larger contributor than the sheer age of the game + low frequency of updates.

I would have assumed it would happen at the end of the current play season.
