Would play SC2 if

I thought I’d just drop in to say that I’d love to play SC2 through again, it’s an absolutely fantastic game. I’m not even sure how many times I’ve done the campaign but it all stopped when I got an Ultra-Wide monitor and discovered that SC2 wouldn’t support it. If I have to deal with those black bars on the sides of the screen I’ll just pass and play something else and for years now I have been. I’m actually eagerly awaiting Warhammer 40k Total War to get my long overdue RTS fix. but then I thought maybe I’ll drop a note and tell Blizzard what it’d take to get me back into SC2. This is that note and that thing is Ultra-Widescreen support. SC2 was the absolute KING of RTS and I’d love to have it back. Do this one thing and I’ll be there.

there is a reason why ultrawide isnt supported. it gives a hardware leg up, that others dont get.

What compelling reason is there not to allow players to zoom out during the game, anyway? That would totally eliminate any notion of a larger monitor giving advantage, and the set level of zoom is a really artificial limitation in this day and age.

I’ve always thought the same about Brood War, on modern computers there’s no reason to force players to work within a tiny section of the map at a time. When matches of BW are being commentated they almost always have the screen zoomed out a bit because it’s just more comfortable to look at.

If you’re playing properly you’re spending most of the time looking at the minimap, a tiny fraction of your screenspace, until a fight breaks out that you have to micro. Even back in WOL when you still had corner cases of people still playing on CRTs I thought the playable screen area was too narrow. I almost wish SC2 had infinite zoom like Zero K or something but it obviously lacks the UI for that level of zoom control, but on the other hand why not?

The reason is because a huge part of Brood War as a competitive game is doing better than your opponent at working against the limitations of the game. That is one of the foundational reasons of why it exploded into popularity as an e-sport, it’s part of the StarCraft identity at this point.

I could see it for campaign and co-op, though.
