To me, I can’t even complain about balance, because the maps take precedence over everything atm. It seems like the only point of the new maps is to be obnoxious.
Every map is either a stupid gimmick or the map is pitch black with a random disco ball thingy. If that’s not a gimmick, it’s even worse, still.
I didn’t play for weeks after new season, because (1) it’s really annoying to learn a bunch of new maps. And (2) the maps are freaking stupid and make the game worse. The game wasn’t great to begin with and then it’s now made less enjoyable. How low can we go… limbo, but game play wise.
Is it really necessary to completely remove nearly every map, which no one had issues with? Obviously there weren’t “5 new maps” that warranted being in the map pool. Change for obnoxious sake.
Anyone else find the map situation to be pretty pathetic and unnecessary atm? I don’t see how anything about the current system helps the game in any shape, way or form.
The only map that seems normal (green one) is a freaking HotS map. There’s nowhere to expo. This pool is such a slap in the face. We can have radical changes with the map pool and “that’s cool,” but we need to be careful about fixing the bugs in the game. Give me a break.

The maps definitely aren’t the worst we have had, but I honestly don’t like the majority of them for one reason or another.
I can’t stand winter’s gate. I hate disco. Sleepers simultaneously manages to put me to sleep and annoy me to no end.
And I feel like so many of the new maps habe massively wide natural walls, but that could be a perspective thing. I need to play on them more to get a better feel but… I really don’t want to because I just… don’t like them.

Where did this “slow mechanic” come from? Never knew such a thing existed, and now we have to make sure this mechanic is randomly placed around maps. What an awesome fad man. I’m sure the casuals and pros just all love it. Win/win/win.
I just wish people would add stupid stuff that doesn’t take away from the game or make people not want to play it. Just add a bunch of random flying sharks and stuff. I just wish people could be more unique without being a c word.
Oh yeah, forgot… we now have to have minerals you can mine to access your third everywhere. It was written in stone recently by the grand wizard map making community. What a bunch of bs.
What would SC 2 be without these great inventors?

I’m usually against vetoing maps when I play ranked… This season I actually used all 3 of my votes: Sleepers, winter’s gate and thunderbird.
mineral walls are total crap, and having slow zones in your already tiny, tiny choke points is… ridiculous…
Turbo Cruise 84 was said to intentionally be the worst implementation of the feature… Honestly I think it was the best lol

That’s what I have vetoed atm. I had to unveto the disco map. God, I hope everyone else has that map vetoed.
yeah, a lot of people veto it for me in my games
The only map I have little issue with is ephemeron. It’s standard, but interesting. Third is close but in an easy to reach position for the enemy. Thunderbird is just horrible and allows so. much. greed… unless you send out 5 workers to mine a wall on the other side of the map. Sleeper’s is too gimmicky, and poorly designed in terms of third choices.
When I first started playing LotV, they were still using HotS maps. But, then, obviously people realized those maps sucked for LotV and that there needed to be more expansions. Ephemeron is merely going back to the HotS maps days, where playing it feels incredibly awkward/bad/wrong in LotV.
But, given the other maps… it feels good/right now. That’s how much the other maps suck.
lol. Yeah that’s definitely true. A fourth base is quite important and it’s a mile away. You’ve got more experience than me so, what do you think of acropolis? I think it’s awkward in a similar sense but has more greediness to it?
Acropolis was my least favorite map of the maps that I played last season. This season, it is BY FAR my favorite map to play.
As far as I know, Acropolis was the first map to introduce the ability to block reapers from getting in your base with just 1 pylon.
That part of it is kinda interesting, and, as a Toss, I obviously love it. It also introduced needing to keep your probe at your natural after making your pylon so you can make your gateway on time, when walling off.
I feel like, outside of that, it plays like a pretty standard LotV map. It’s one of my highest win rate maps, to date, in LotV. 65%, so it’s a very good map for macro players. I don’t have any issues taking a fourth base on that map.
There were some people (myself included) on twitch chat last Pylon show discussing about the 1v1 bad designed maps and a few map makers were not very happy. It seems like there is a syndicate of map makers who doesn’t welcome criticism to their creations.
Some considerations on current map pool and why it sucks:
- There is no clear goal or spirit of each map. They all seem the same with different tilesets;
- Cannon rush too abusive on most maps;
- No rush map at all for diverse gameplay;
- Big and bad designed maps that favor Zerg way too much;
- Excessively dark maps like Disco which makes me wonder if map makers even play the game;
- Most maps is almost impossible to take a third or forth unless you play Zerg or commit a ton of resources walling;
-Loads of bugs (MULES stuck and Banshees spawning out of nowhere).

Banshee’s spawning out of nowhere? Do you have a video of that hahaha wtf
Oh it wasn’t New Repugnancy with the abusable reaper proxy? or was it worse on Acropolis?
“Show me on the doll where he touched you.” Let me keep those thoughts repressed, punk
I thought about getting therapy over it, but I figured I’d just rage and take my anger out on the therapist. Someone needs to feel the pain.
These new maps are so dumb. It’s like they sought the dumbest maps possible, just to make SC 2 look better. “You thought the game design was bad and broodlord, infestor remains in the game so 3 year old non Koreans can win WCS… well… look at the map makers.”
On a tangent, how does anyone ever beat Zerg? Every game, I just feel like pulling a Neeb vs Elazer and letting a guy beat my maxed army with 1 infestor and 1 broodlord.
Outplay a guy sooooooo hard and have the map, yet gotta stay in the game till real life death do us part, and the other guy is still favored probably. I’ve said it a million times and meant it a million, nexus wars is the far better game/variant.

Single most overused and cringy line ever.
when i first saw slowfields in sc2 maps … Is this warcraft 3? get that crap out of here …
I agree with this but to be fair, almost all maps Blizzard has released this year have been bad. The slow fields are not fun to play around, they are just annoying.

I don’t know about “worst maps ever” but they are certainly not very compelling. At the very least I enjoy the aesthetics.

Coming from Conquest: Frontier wars, the slow zones are a nice touch in my eyes. On that game there were many more terrain types: Asteroid fields that slowed your ships and reduced vision ranged and different types of nebula that had different effects when you traversed them: taking more damage, negating supplies to ships so they were basically unable to attack, removing shields temporarily, slowing down, speeding up, etc.
They were also quite large so in many situations you had to traverse some of them if you actually wanted to get places in time, and sometimes going around them meant the opponent could just use the time to beeline to your supply routes through the nebula (say you wanted ot avoid the taking extra damage one, the opponent could traverse it while you were going around it and basically gut your economy). It was an extremely interesting aspect of the game to take into account.
I’d love to see more things like that added to the game, although it would shake up things too hard probably.
You talk about worst maps ever and I’m just flashing back to abyssal caverns, shattered temple, close by ground metalopolis, Xel’naga caverns etc lol pretty much every map pool till like 2012 or so when we finally got cloud kingdom, ohana, antiga shipyard and daybreak was just a nightmare

I hear the early maps were REALLY bad, but I don’t think I got to play most of them. Only one that I think I got to play out of that list was maybe metalopolis. It was so long ago, that it’s hard to remember how bad or good those maps were.
