A really old bug that still hasn’t been addressed is that in the Wings of Liberty campaign you start with 2 or 3 Zerg research points before doing any bonus objectives that earn them for you. This seems to be the case with everyone.
I don’t think that’s a bug. I think you’re supposed to start with those points. Perhaps because Raynor’s Raiders already fought Zerg in the escape from Mar Sara.

Is that really a bug?Did you avoid bonus objectives on purpose until accessing the lab to make sure?
I think even after you access the Hyperion, the lab is unavailable for a few more missions, so when you access it for the first time, it would be logical to always have some points already.

The Lab does open with three Zerg research even if all bonus objectives were not completed leading up to it. It’s been like that for at least eight of the ten years SC2 has been out, so whether it’s a bug or not isn’t clear.
It may have been intended as part of the Lab opening experience to see how it works even if the player hadn’t collected anything yet. But then again, it’s possible it’s a long running bug as well.
It’s hard for me to be sure but I don’t think it was that way when Wings of Liberty first released. There were a handful of bugs introduced to the original campaign when Heart of the Swarm came out including Nydus Worms and Omegalisks missing their death animations and the video of Kerrigan Tychus was watching freezing. Those ones got fixed eventually.
If it’s not a bug, that’s fine. But it’s worth looking into to make sure. It seems to happen for everyone without explanation.
