With Phil saying that they are willing to deep dive into deprecated Blizzard IP like SC2, maybe we will get some renewal of the game in the future. What do you guys think?
If they did invest back into SC2, how would that affect Stormgate?
I imagine that this exact prospect is part of the strategy and competition with Stormgate is now on the radar for Ice Giant.
Is an RTS rennaisanse on the horizon?

Lol why do ppl still think there is any other outcome for this game. As for me I am not necessarily a Starcraft player, SC2 was on the way of RTS path firstly and I still have better experience and time with Warcraft 3, now after SC2 Stormgate comes in line, they would change nothing to be worth returning to. Whoever wants to struggle in certain matchups in ladder there will be no change because the game and units are designed so
There’s a fairly good chance we’ll see the StarCraft IP developed further in some way. Not sure it’ll be SC2 or an RTS game but StarCraft isn’t done yet. It’s too big of a cash cow with too grand of a legacy.
I hope that Blizzard doesn’t revisit StarCraft until thy figure out what they’re doing 1st. They already almost botched D4 and are just now starting to fix the problems it has. That’s not a good sign but it does mean there’s hope.

I hope Microsoft understands that SC2 still has potential. We are still quite a lot of active users. Maybe they even choose to start developing SC3. Let’s hope they start announcing what their plans are with their new investment.

SC2 is done and not much will change, most likely. They should make SC3 and then World of Starcraft, like with WC3.
there is still untapped potensial in the co-op mode. there is still more classic models left to add too.
Short: No.
Long: No it won’t.
SC2 is probably done forever at this point. I think its likely we’ll see more Starcraft IPs in the hopefully not distant future, but SC2 is a 13 year old game and the engine was in development for like 5 years before that, which makes doing any real work on it extremely unappealing.
Presuming that they have no interest into creating “new content”, it would at least be worth to hire some staff to fix the game and editor bugs. Modders are still actively creating content, this must be considered.
Can always hold on to hope, if you really want to.
But sometimes, games just phase out even if we don’t want it to.
Unreal Engine is the product of 25 years of development. That the SC2 engine is “old” doesn’t really mean anything. Most engines are “old”. Nobody is reinventing the wheel by writing new engines from scratch. That would be silly. Instead, they continuously update existing technology.

honestly? terrancraft shoul stay dead, as most of the blizz games, only way that something good will happen for this games is if microsoft will fire every single one of the decision making dudes and replace em, starting with the terran lovers

I didn’t know SC2 is made of UE but Stormgate is based on UE5. And the game looks like Starcraft and Warcraft and diablo in one but I don’t mind it, it is known to be liked by people who played the blizz rts
It does not use unreal engine, blizzard used there own custum engines up until hearthstone.
I don’t have a lot of hope for MS to revive sc2, but they can’t possibly be worse than the sh!tshow that was activision’s take-over of blizzard.

Unlikely, the most you can hope for is for StormGate and ZeroSpace to be so wildly successful that no one can deny the RTS genre is dead.
Then Microsoft can green-light StarCraft 3 as a cheap mobile-game filled with microtranasctions to cash in.
Well you really didn’t believe it would happen but im just gonna be a smug bastard and say it turns out your wrong Microsoft just had a huge part in a major update to starcraft 2 making a bunch of bug fixes and balancing changes to units technically this is good but not good as you can see what Microsoft did with halo i just hope they didn’t ruin starcraft 2 by changing the units to balance them out this shows Microsoft is interested in starcraft 2 and they may start development for a third game which id be excited for but id also be worried it won’t feel like starcraft 2 now that Microsoft is running things and that without the staff that worked on starcraft 2 originally that things will backfire
Honestly i think the chances of a starcraft 2 have significantly increased very very recently as Microsoft has shown interest in the starcraft line of games after purchasing Activision/Blizzard and recently made a major update to starcraft 2 fixing bugs and rebalancing units in all factions i just hope they Don’t ruin things as they apparently balanced units out to make camping tactics less viable if they are changing things for reasons such as this they clearly have plans for the games lets just hope they Don’t ruin starcrafts amazing reputation of being one of the best rts games to this day like they did to halo halo was one of the best first person shooters for me and they kind of ruined it when they made halo infinite a battlepass system that was severely pay to progress and also made halo feel less halo Don’t get me wrong halo 3 odst and halo 4 were great but everything from that point on was disappointing as if you look at halo 5 guardians and halo wars 2 there is a gigantic gap in the story between halo 4 and infinite as you can’t play halo 5 or halowars 2 on pc especially in canada that ruined halo infinite for me i loved the game but the campaign sucked because i didn’t understand what was happening because i couldn’t play the previous 2 games so lets hope they learned from their mistakes with halo and hire frost giant games to work on the next starcraft game after stormgate is finished and find and hire all the staff that worked on starcraft 2 that didn’t go and form frostgiant so they have the starcraft 2 team instead of laying off so many people and struggling to make the games feel fun but still classic like the previous ones
SC2 was never dead but MS is showing interest in the franchise with moving it onto PC gamepass. We’ll see where this goes.
