Just hit level 90 the other day, and it was a big let down they maxed the mastery’s there. I thought there would be at least another 90 to earn. I figured new ones would be unlocked once the first mastery’s were maxed because of people level 500 or higher playing on difficulties brutal or easier. After hitting 90 i find myself logging in then quit without even playing a game. The ascension levels do not make me want to play at all. If people like the ascension stuff make it so you can choose where the xp goes after hitting level 90.
The reason for the 90 cap is to keep commander power in check.
For those who have played co-op a lot and/or are good enough, brutal difficulty is faceroll at mastery 90. Going to mastery 180 would make it even easier.
Who care if the commanders are stronger? It’s not like you can use the commanders to play ladder matches or even vs someone. Stronger commanders are the thing that makes co-op fun! Brutal was a faceroll for for me when i hit level 30. You missed my whole point. If you wanna play harder stuff there’s brutal++ and harder. My point of this post was to get people to show that they wanted more mastery points. Wouldn’t it be fun to max out your mastery’s? I’ve been playing rts games since dune2. I think that was the first rts for the computer. It came out before warcraft. Played all the warcraft and command and conquer games. I was a top player in sc1. I think i know whats fun, and it stopped as fun once the mastery was maxed. If it’s too easy for you why don’t you play a harder difficulty?
I’m not sure that’s actually the reason now that Brutal+ and onward are difficulties.
I think it’s just a carry over from when co-op was new and 180 mastery would break the game and knowing Blizzard, they’re highly resistant to logical decisions so the 90 mastery cap just stuck around.
You say that but you don’t recognize the WoW level progression thing going on with mastery levels. SHAME!
They want the mastery system to involve the player choosing and customizing their commander to their preferred style, not for it to serve as an end all be all permanent universal power boost.
Kelthar… I’m DEEPLY disappointed in you. HOW DARE YOU MAKE SENSE ON THE FORUMS???
It is my sacred duty to be the straight man so that the comedic prowess of other posters shine all the brighter.
Well said, brave forum poster!
It’s not really “stronger commanders” that makes co-op fun, it’s the ability to do things that are otherwise unavailable in ladder - flying Reapers, instant zerglings, seemingly indestructible defenses and hero units to name a few things. It’s these distinctive designs and gameplay elements that makes co-op what it is.
Also, there’s such a thing as being too strong. Commanders being grossly overpowered makes the gameplay way too easy. Gameplay that’s way too easy can get boring very quickly.
Sure but you don’t seem to be aware of the potential consequences of doing that.
No I didn’t. If anything, I don’t think you understand the effect of maxing out all masteries would have.
Mastery points past 90 leads to power creep and that brings with it its own set of problems.
I do but the current implementation of brutal+ is poorly designed.
Mastery did not show up in co-op until months after initial release.
The reason for brutal+ is to provide players with something harder than regular brutal which many players found to be easy to play with enough experience, though I disagree with its current design.
Overpowered but fun is not a bad thing. Overpowered as in big stats stick that roll over anything else is not fun.
As long as the OPness is not just a simple big stat stick, it can be fun.
This is why I hate the change to buffing Zeratul stat while nerfing the Unique cannon spam.
some mastery combos can and will break everything about the game if we allow masteries much past 90 - you’d be able to turn certain CO’s into god-stat parties & it’d be pointless.
Imagine trying to play a stukov/stet pairing with all of those mastery points - way too much movement and crashing.
Kerrigan with better base attack AND abilites? armies would be beyond redundant at that point. just…dont bother.
While i really wish that Brut+ had been done differently, it is a reasonable solution to people’s complaints that it got too easy. That’s the nature of a game mode like this; such repetitive gameplay gets predictable and easy
Thank you for your insightful response Volsarex, I didn’t consider your points before. I don’t want to lecture you how I think I’m right like cybernetic wants to with me. I just want to increase the amount of fun people can have playing the game, and for me it was a big let down on the mastery cap. There’s always a way around it though. It might show those co’s are broken to begin with.
You do yourself no favors by brushing off opposing views or counterpoints as nothing more than a lecture.
Still trying to lecture me? I saw the validity of Volsarex’s thoughts. He gave really good specific points, and would have been happy if blizzard delivered me that response. Why are you so interested in going through my responses line by line, displaying them, and then responding on how you’re right. I never said I was right. I brushed you off because you still don’t get my point. How can SC co-op be more fun? Your first response sounded arrogant to me, so I shared my thoughts on why I wanted more mastery levels. Then you go through it line by line on how you’re right. You made some points, but they were too broad. That’s why i gave Volsarex credit, and tried to not even respond to you. All I know is I was staying up until 3:00 am everyday playing until I hit 90, and now i might play 1 game a day.
You are proving yourself guilty of the very things you are accusing me of - lecturing and arrogance.
It’s fine if you disagree with what I have said, the least you could do is be polite about it. Your unwillingness to do even that says a lot about you.
All you have to say is “I think thou dost protest too much” then.
Why don’t you go and read your responses again. To me you weren’t polite in any of your responses except this one.
You guys are so cute. Talking about kindness and trying to be polite <3 Are all Co-op players so cuddly?
You risk derailing your own thread if this is all you are interested in from here on in.
It’s a forum thing - co-op is usually more civil than general discussion.
200% increased symbiote on brutalisk? Ok I’ll take it.
400 mineral Griffin airstrike? Gimme. 100% increased snipe damage? Duhhh
60% IAS for Tychus? SURE.
Wrathwalkers attacking 60% faster? Why not?
120% blackhole duration? Pls!
I too, thought that you would be able to get all masteries up to 30/30, for a total of 180 points. Dumping 60 into one sounds pretty awesome (toxic nests 3 shotting a hybrid sounds awesome) but the would have to introduce a handicap setting or something for the game to be any kind of a challenge at that point.
Using Abathur as an example, with a 200% symbiote or a 99.99% with 30% x2biomass, there would never be a reason to do anything but a move. No micro the viper, no remax roaches, no balance the queens. My 200/200 supply is all full biomass, and I will solo brutal 6, depending on the mutations.
I too was disappointed, but I have learned to enjoy playing with what I have.
What point would you like the masteries capped at?
