Why Karax for this week's mutation?

I don’t get it, why so many ppl just pick karax for this week’s mut, all of them can neither def or push, that’s amazing, I am wondering where is their confidence from?

Karax just has a huge ‘Carry me’ sign on his forehead this week lol. He’s not even a good pick, swann is way better against defending vs both missiles and infested and helps with extra gas.

Hey but noobs gotta get that bounty somehow right

That’s how deprate I am, they don’t even know the right pick which can make the game much easier. I can only watch those cannons overwhelmed by broodings. Now, I just leave when I meet Karax, no matter how high their mastery are.

They’re probably not aware that he’s actually not suitable for this week’s mutation. Dollars to donuts, they aren’t scouring the forums as to optimum picks.

Wait, Karax is weak for this week mutation ??
I played him and first tried it with a Fenix.
I carried him for the first 2 obj while he’s massing Carriers.
So yeah, Karax is only a decent pick but not a bad one.

There’s also the repair beam that heals buildings damaged by missiles. Even if Karax only focuses on defense, he can support his partner with SoA abilities and tie a couple of energizers on the ally’s forces.

But in unskilled hands, he is the worst commander. For example, I can’t believe how many people don’t know that energizers exist and that they can speed up cannons as well units.

Indeed, it is puzzling why do people even think that Karax is good for this week mutation. The PDD effect will absorb most of the photon cannon’s attacks and let the nuke slip thru and destroy your bases.

Karax is one of the best in this mutation. You pair up with somebody, one takes a def commander like Karax, the other picks an offensive one. One defs, one attacks. The offensive guy should not pick zerg (can Stetmann, because he is mechanical). Passive repair helps against missiles. Cannons make short work of infested, especially with structure mastery and energizer boost. PDDs cannot block the monoliths’ attack.

Since this weeks is not very hard, it’s ok for good players but bad for noobs. The main reason is below.

*Drones will deny cannons.

*Monolith can skip the drones but expensive (300/100).

*All tower are not splash damage for broodings and infested, require orbital strike to help which cost micro like a mineral shield but everywhere.

*Karax’s units take time, but after 20mins, the outbreak spawns 6 aberrations every time which counters towers. So, it’s easier to finish the game faster.

These 4 points are hard for noobs, but it’s ok for experienced players. I believe those who are good can pick any commander for this week. That’s what my “bad pick” means.

It’s ok, just pick Karax and tell ppl to do that, I have done the brutal mut achievement anyway, I am not the one struggling and affected by noobs’ pick now. :grinning:

He’s not that bad but people come with expectations that static only will just do the trick, or that just staying on defense would do it, this map is not dead on night, if the ally also can’t deal with broodlings you’re just as dead.

Karax is for people who tunnel vision into overdefending on a mutation that doesn’t actually require that many defenses. You only need heavy defenses once aberrations come into play, and if you get to that point, you probably overdefended and just slowed down the mission.

Generally it’s rare for Karax to be good at any Mutation. Heck even normal missions can counter him like P&P or Cradle.

You use the big cannon, not the small one for defend against the missiles. The big one use hit scan attack which by pass the point defense drones.

If you mean last week mutation, then yea, he is not good.
If it is this week mutation however, then he is pretty solid in providing the team defense.
With so many offensive commanders being play, having Karax taking care of their base is actually like a very huge “Thanks you for being support” in League of Legend.

You didn’t get what i mean, see my reply above, I listed 4 points that Swan is better than Karax on “like sawtting insects”

Problem with Swann is that there is no passive healing for your defense. Between the infested and the missle that broke down into projectile attack(upon dying), you will need something that fix your defense. Workers are good until you remember that they will also die to baneling(Outbreak).

Swann gets free healing with SCVs as well as free, automatic healing from Fire Suppression System.

And here is a classic example of tunnel-vision defending. All this unnecessary concern about one partner with dedicated defense, repairing, etc. One look at a Raynor solo and you can see how little you need to invest into defending against the mutators in this mutation.

Outbreak does not spawn banelings, and it does not spawn volatile infested.

Swann also can get auto repair on his buildings at the engineering bay. You know, the building you need to build missile turrets?

It doesn’t matter which character you choose for defending. I like to play safely. I don’t need anything else than a partner who just defends (Karax, Swann, anybody), so I don’t have only little job, but I have absolute zero job with defending. Doesn’t matter how a solo gamer needs minimal effort to check the defenses. It is just people play how they feel good. Rushing missión completion is not everything. It takes much concentration which can be avoided by choosing one guy to defend and the other to attack. Actually I played Tychus and my ally was Swann. Only the laser that helped me during the attack and I went home only after finishing an area.
