Why is sensor tower affected area visible for the enemy?

For fair play purposes, the sensor tower circumference should be invisible between enemies without a previous detection!
It’s justified for training but not for ranked games!

For the same reason that Creep is also …visible.
Unless this whineterran will ask for invisible creep and Protoss will get something similar…

Possibly because the Sensor Tower gives off a tonne of electromagnetic radiation that can be detected with very simple radio receivers (and I’m sure the zerg can evolve something that is sensitive to that frequency).

The closest real-life analogy is a RADAR tower, and the right equipment can easily detect when you’re painted by it (it’s akin to a massive searchlight). Even if you’re out of range, you can still pick up residual radiation, while enemy intelligence and your own experiments will give you the effective range of the things.

This is a great lore reason!

Aside from that, gameplay wise, it’s probably done that way so you don’t get unfairly scouted. I mean there are observers and burrowed zerg that can passively scout you too, without moving too, but sensor towers are on a whole other level of large field scouting.

You forgot WM that do that on top of insta-killing + AOE also.

A little compensation given for other races in order to reduce its imba.
