Why does corruptor counters all protoss air?

I mean, protoss hasn’t win a GSL since 2017 and people wonder. Maybe it’s because late game airtoss is countered by a single unit ? Blizzard was fine with never seeing a voidray, not wondering why ?

Zerg anti-air sucks without corruptors.

It also sucks with them, but it sucks without them too.

:joy: For real first mistake produce corraptors and start plus one attack while in right scenario you need armor upgrade lead cause your unit will stop you do a shot do they needs more survive then dps

Your tears are delicious.

Idk what are you talking about. In diamond/below most zerg would anyways die from storms against skytoss. In masters you add archons and focus them during the fight. The only moment where they can make a problem is when they kill your nexuses. Beside that I don’t see a problem, as long as we are talking about the ladder.

Voids and archons mixed in smash corrupters. IMO, the main issue is the strength of the viper + static D. I’d consider tweaking feedback and viper energy to give toss a better counter to abduct.

The real question is: Why does marine counter every stargate unit protoss has to offer?

maybe try something other than A moving skytoss

storm comes to mind

Voids actually don’t beat corruptors. If the damage boost is on, they do but without it they lose.

Archons are not a counter to corruptors due to their lack for speed, mobility and range. Archons are useful if the corruptors have to come to you to fight in a specific place but if corruptors are flying around your base killing stuff or if you’re being pushed and corruptors are supporting the zerg, they aren’t going to do anything.

There are many units in the game protoss has no real counter to: phoenix, archons, corruptors, lurkers, vipers, hellions, ghosts. There are theoretical counters but theory and practice are two different things.

And Protoss is being whiny?

Yeah it must be rough with:

Vipers (Parasitic bomb with huge radius and no FF, abduct, and energy refill?)
Infestors (Snare that does damage no freindly fire? Mind control?)
Corruptors (most supply efficent and best anti-air unit (against massive at least) in the game)
Queens (Costs 0 gas and require a pool. Thats it. Costs no larva and can heal. Useful the entire game. 7 range)
Spores (Only “static” defense that can move, useful the whole game, 400 hp, detector, doesnt require evo, fast rooting)
Hydras (best ground to air unit in the game? super high dps against ground and air)
Edit: Mutas: One of the best harass units in the game. Great anti air for drops. Can still cost efficiently kill “hard counters” including widow mines and thors with proper micro.

We literally NEVER see BCs in the late game TvZ (or really even mid game) against Zerg because of how hard Zerg counters them. Professional Protoss try to go AirToss late game mainly due to a lack of options against Zerg late game… but still lose. So yeah… whatever you believe about “weak” Zerg anti air is a fantasy

Think about it, they don’t have much else to contest air from the other races without corruptors. They don’t have a fleet ship either. Corruptors are needed.

Parasitic Bomb, Fungal, Abduct + Hydralisks, Neural + Ravagers or Queens or Hydralisks, etc.

Zerg has several fairly good options whether they choose to use Corruptors or not.

All of which are ground to air or require additional support.

Coming from GM zerg:
The reason corruptors beat airtoss in a straight fight is because storm is a thing. If zerg cannot beat airtoss with only corruptors while they have no storm, then they have no change when the protoss has storm.

In a zvp lategame the tools are these:
Zerg has Corruptors + Vipers to pull carriers one at a time, and in a straight fight the broodlords zone out the high templars and some infestors to fungal mainly.

Protoss has Carriers, a mothership, some voids and tempests maybe, and a few archons and high templars.

The real way zerg kills protoss is by abducting with viper and then one shotting with corruptor, zerg can never win if they just a move corruptor because of storm.
Then again, the protoss uses feedback to deal with viper, and this is how the match up goes.

So that’s why corruptors can win straight up fight vs protoss air only, because high templars are a thing. Also part of the reason for before 2020 was because infested terrans which are now gone.

Marines would like a word about that…

Mass carrier is actually pretty hard to contest without corruptors. The mobility of air in general too can be hard to overcome. Hydralisks can’t jump across chasms or cliffs. You can position ground-related defenses against the air units, but you can’t actually chase them down and kill them head on. Corruptors give that option. Also when dealing with storm/archon, corruptors have pretty good mobility against that, while hydras aren’t as capable of maneuvering against that (and aren’t as durable).

As for neural + ravager… That’s not realistic, and mass queen is not a viable long term solution. Vipers can kind of work with hydralisk, but not really in a late game scenario. Mass carrier alone can actually charge into that and come out on top.

It looks like at the pro scene. Zergs are skilled enough and have enough game sense to use their Vipers correctly and with that in mind they should never lose a ZvP.

While at lower level people forget to consume or vipers a move into a pack of carrier interceptors and die and gets rolled over by storm+carrier. It looks to me that Protoss has an easier time controlling skytoss but at very high skill levels Zerg has the upper hand.

The issue with skytoss is not balance its design imo. Where a moving is much more rewarding than careful patient play.

But why is Protoss losing vs Zerg ? Its not skill difference. Its not balance its design of ZvP. The problem is Protoss at pro level is shoehorned into doing risky plays and have to choose between pressuring or expanding and they lack the ability the clear creep without the entire army. Overall Protoss is fragile and brittle in PvZ. If the Zerg is smart enough they’ll know that Protoss will set up a timing and is vunerable in its build up. Rogue is very good at abusing this and that’s why his ZvP’s looks so one sided where the Protoss never really gets going.

I always thought it came down to Queens,Vipers and Spore.

I can legit see Queens making use of anti air in lategame army by just spamming heal and that AA range.

Try making Voids bro, you will annihilate Corruptors.
