It was a staple play in Brood War.
Because you have nydus.
I just had a guy drop four queens and 4 roach and then nydus, I tapped out the moment the nydus started since his queens were already there!
Nice strategy! I like it
Star gate openers say hello.
Because nobody opened mass Corsair in BW…
It was a pretty meh unit with meh dmg lmao. Scout was better AA. Scout ground dmg was very bad also… so carrier was best air unit to mass.
Speed was the reason Corsair was better.
It had the damage output of a Phoenix. Don’t fool yourself, the most standard PvZ play is 8 corsairs, and the last time a high level BW player made a scout was, oh, never.
creep spread and nydus play are why. There was some great play when Overlords had an evolution chamber requirement for the morph, but it was too strong against Toss so it got changed back.
They should have just removed the elevator trick.
Suddenly I’m reminded of an old youtube vid. Guy took an absurd amount of overlords, somewhere around 400-500 of em. Some of em full of units, some of em not. Took ALL of em and
- Covered the enemy base to the point they couldn’t see to do anything in response
- Unloaded all of em
- Had about 1/2 of em pouring creep
When they all left, there was literally nothing left but some creep. Why don’t more people do funny crap like this?
i trade 3 phoenixes for 1 corsair anytime. With enough Corsair, you take 0 damage engaging mass muta. Phoenixes wish it can be half as good as corsair but it’s not.
I think the reason is because lurkers aren’t popular.
The only time when doom drops are really good is when you have siege units to lodge yourself in the enemy base, or if you have very good structure shredding abilities.
Lings can do the structure shredding, but because warp gate exists you need a lot of lings. So it’s not particularly worthwhile to do it with ovies.
Lurkers are amazing if you drop or nydus them into the enemy base. But nobody is making lurkers in the current meta, likely due mostly to the power of BL/Infestor and the fact that any gas past hydra tech should be going to your unstoppable endgame army.
the ventral sacs cause the overlord to gain too much weight, in turn causing it to get really sad
this is why nydus worms are better bc they are surprising light weight for their size, maybe even less than one ton
thank me later
on the notion of overlord drops the base speed of overlords doesn’t make them particular good dropships, witht he implementation of cheaper overlord speed that could change since you can wedge it in earlier
or take forever to build, i mena the construction of the lurkerden takes as much time you need to get either grooved spines or hydraspeed so yeah setting up something like the DT drop as toss is impossible for that reason, also lurkers like all improved unit still can’t be made straight from larva and must be morphed beforehand if that method is ever changed it’ll break the game
xD
No, lurkers are rare because they suck. If we went back to the HotS meta, where siege tanks sucked and liberators didn’t exist and terrans massed bio+mine, then lurkers would be really good. Right now Zerg must have a way to push into liberator zones or you just die. Hydras cannot do it - they die to the liberators. Corruptors cannot do it - they die to the bio or thors or ghosts. Vipers cannot do it - they die to vikings and ghosts. The only unit zerg has that can push a liberator zone is the broodlord. You get out broodlords or you die. It’s as simple as that.
Playing broods really sucks due to their mobility issues so if zergs had a different unit comp that could work then they’d use it. The fact that they use broods and only broods when broods come at such high trade-offs shows quite clearly how necessary the broods are as only necessity could motivate someone to use such a slow and immobile unit.
Imagine how salty terrans would be if zerg had a unit that can do what the brood does but that is more mobile. Lmao. That’s the natural course of your logic. If you want to see broods less then zerg needs a non-brood solution to the liberator problem and every other unit in the game is faster than broods so no matter what option you select to buff it will be able to do what broods do plus be more mobile. So you are asking to buff zerg in a roundabout way because you don’t understand the game.
There’s always 2 base nydus cheese . Nydus in front of main spam spores burrow lurkers and launch locusts. Really cheesy and all in though lol
Lurkers are not popular because they are not really good xd.
Vs T : tank + liberator gg…
Vs Protoss : lurkers are good until P reach a critical mass of archons/immortal/chargelots, and when they get then, they simply amove into lurkers and crush them whithout losing anything.
Vs Z : That’s the only MU where this strat is viable, and it’s quite frequent with nyndus.
Why not both… Overlords drop to protect the Nydus initially…
