Im sure it was an intentional choice but anyway, hear me out:
We all know how unique SC1 was, but people tend to forget that their biblical/ancient way of communicating also made the game unique.
Compare the lingo to SC2’s during the campaign and you will see a vast difference. its almost like the devs of sc2 wanted more of a “modern” way of talking, as in, dont make it sound archaic or talking philosopically.
You really would have to think outside of the box to think of this: “I have journeyed through the darkness between the most distant stars. I have beheld the births of negative suns, and borne witness to the entropy of entire realities”. How does one even arrive at such a quote for the situation that he said it in? Like wow. That guy was truly gifted to have come up with that.
But even then it doesnt have to be as deep as that, for example:
“Awaken my child, and embrace the glory that is your birthright. Know that I am the overmind and that you have been created to serve me”.
There are many, many more examples throughout the campaigns in SC1 with that “archaic” sounding language.

Gamers have changed, attention spans are lower, iqs have devolved. Games like starcraft are a dead breed. Mobas like lol and dota 2 are where its at now. No one has the patience to learn a complex game like sc2.

I disagree, I came here from Heroes of the Storm.
I personally enjoyed both campaigns, but broodwar is much more cooler. Its graphic is more realistic than sc2, which looks directs little bit more closer to cartoonish graphics, that is not to say it looks like cartoon. I don’t know how else to say it. But sc 1 has that grim like diablo 2 and it is more fitting in combination with the story and atmosphere it creates. SC 2 is not bad, but it doesn’t have that same feel. I like diablo 1 and 2 much more than 3, it is like another entire world. Very epic !
While both stories are entirely something else, sc2 is like space western, like firefly tv show, while sc 1 like startrek sci-fi, or something entirely different, i don’t know how i would describe sc 1 story, it is long time i played it.
It is because nowaydays we get only remasters and dlcs and p2p and they don’t have to create and experiment and work that hard to make money. Gaming used to be like a form of art, which is much less nowadays. They just rush game to the marked and make copy of a copy. If you look at around 2000 ± best tiles were born…
I like fear, stalker, half-life 1,2 and diablo 1,2 and oldschool games like call of cthulhu, max payne 2, which are hundred times better then all games combined nowaydays and even they had very old graphics, it still looks better and more realistic then most of games we get today ! And broodwar looks better than 2, i would trade non hd broodwar with sc2 all the time ! Only with hd textures so it is visible on full hd, but not remaster. And it is not even nostalgia, because at that time, they actually could do pc games, nowaydays we get trash !

Starcraft 1 = FO 1/2/NV = oblivion = Deus Ex
Starcraft 2 = FO 3/4/76 = skyrim
Basically, time went on and the attention/effort spent in scripting or building lore has diminished in games across the board. A lot of those lorebuilding techniques were normalized from much older games and even D&D. Games/campaigns now are flatter and meant to be so for immediate immersion. Why lose your potential customers to slow story development?
Another blatant moba ripoff. Isnt hos dead already?
Just the toxic bit. Still gets regular updates that include heroes and events. Also every MOBA rips the WC3 Defense of the Ancients map style. At least Blizz tried to introduce new concepts.
I think the simple answer is that Blizzard became more corporate. Back in the late 90s, even though Blizzard had grown by this point, creativity was still driven largely by passion and the developers weren’t afraid to try things. For StarCraft II, the focus was on eSports mostly, with lore coming a distant third. I do miss the archaic ways that the Protoss and Zerg spoke, and even some of the Terrans had a different way of talking (Arcturus Mengsk stood out a bit). If anything, it taught me to expand my English language somewhat, and was noted by my teachers (who didn’t know about the game, just that I had a ‘fantastical’ way of speaking, like me using the term “arbiter” to describe a mediator (this was way before Halo 2)!)
When you compare it to Sci-Fi, StarCraft and Brood War are probably closest to the Alien universe, with things being gritty and dysfunctional in the human societies, and any kind of heroics tended to get you killed. In StarCraft II, everything is much more hero-centric and you didn’t feel that any of the main protagonists were in danger. If anything, the only arguably unexpected death was the one near the start of Legacy of the Void.
These days, with the modern jargon, it takes away a lot of the mystique, and some quotes seem awkward or, if you think about it, confusing (e.g. Raynor at one point says “We can’t just kick this can down the road”, a metaphor that Artanis and Selendis would not get at all).
