Now this my opinion but I feel that if starcraft2 was more focused defensive heavy and allowed certain structures to be build then it be come rts game. Where maps not on platform,
Terran focus bunkers and walls, Protoss shields and beams, Zerg would focus creep and acid that eats.
It failed to deliver to the most competitive people out there, but thatās fine for Blizz. They had a good run, and right now is a bad time for many people. I donāt see a future for this game competitively.
Usually, what I hear from people who donāt want to try the game or played it once only is āitās too hardā āI donāt understandā āThereās too much going onā āItās not my type of gameā āI donāt want to learn another gameā
Why play SC2 why you can just play some other games where you need way less effort.
The game is still a master piece though. Even if itās not popular thereās still people playing and itās a blast. Itās just niche and thatās okay.
It didnāt fail. The RTS genre as a whole failed because gamers become more and more casuals, and move from RTS to MMOs, from MMOs to MOBAs, and from MOBAs to mobile games.
Still, SC2 remain the most successful RTS, pretty uncontested.
SC2 is probably THE best RTS game of all times. The problem is that itās not enough these days. Look at something like Diablo Immortal with its āwallet warriorsā. Thatās where the market is going. SC2 is many ways is the OPPOSITE of DI. Notice that it is DI that makes a million bucks per day while SC2 makes probably a tiny fraction of that. Blizzard and other companies canāt ignore this.
They went wrong with swarm hosts, disruptors, and widow mines. And thatās only with versus alone. They did a handful of other things that fatally wounded the game from the inside out, and the mainstream community doesnāt care for it at all.
They actually only care about versus. They only cared about co-op when it came out and 2-3 years after, and it was the most successful thing they added. Arcade is almost purely run by player base. Campaign is great - probably the most reliable thing in the game. But the only thing that genuinely receives updates over time is versus and co-op (but even before prestiges, co-op was clearly being forgotten).
I half disagree. It obviously succeeded in getting (some of) the most competitive people out there. Just look at the mechanics of the top level players. The half I agree with is people with a more strategic oriented mindset canāt compete because the majority of this game is based on pure mechanics alone.
Also, there is a future for this game competitively. Look at SC1. The main issue is that it will never reach a tenth of the glory that SC2 had in its peak. Itās just going to become a niche game that old people of the past play. No fresh blood. Just the same people playing over and over, getting older and older.
I havenāt played Elden Ring or Skyrim or a lot of other platform games, but I hear some of the newer games are still difficult to play? Yet they are seeing a ton of success. I think itās true that a lot of kids growing up now are becoming more casual players, but thereās still plenty of gamers looking for a challenge. Whatās your thoughts on that?
If this game had a mode where the units fought for you, and you only decided what to build and where, I think it would be nice. It wouldnāt be too difficult.
I guess the āDirect Strikeā mod might fit the bill.
Problem with StarCraft they didnāt balance and added wrong things.
St2 is only good because had blizzard vs EA.
First thing when it was in beta they should done a better job at balance mineral units out.
Stim should never increase dps it should made fast and more hp. That was biggest failure that allowed people play only one unit and win for longest time.
Banelings was bad unit but most time units it destroyed will be right back.
Making Zerg tier race which took longest tech and crappy units as that ultra, brood lords.
I think it failed because they called it āStarcraftā. If you expect it to be like the Starcraft you loved, everything feels off: The voice acting. The unit designs. The models. The colours. The pacing. The way a race plays. The way the story unfolds. The way characters behave.
It has a semblance of familiarity, but itās like stepping into an alternate universe where everything is wrong and you, the player, seem to be the only one who notices.
Youāre supposed to roll with it and pretend like everything is normal, but you know itās not, because you remember a different past. It is not Starcraft. Perhaps it floats your boat, perhaps it doesnāt; but it is not a sequel to the classic. Itās a reimagined version that takes place in another universe.
A universe where you can hear the rats at the edge of your perception, and vaguely smell the rotting carcass upon which someone drew a creepy smileyface.
I wish they renamed SC2 into Starcraft: 2nd Universe.
Then there could be Starcraft: 3rd trilogy, to conclude Starcraft 1 without adding retcon, merchandising, random ripoff from things that should not be canon, and other thingsā¦
But I donāt really believe in such a miracle.
at launch ā¦ no serioiusly if you think this game has issues now this game had more issues at launch back in WoL it was legit 100% Predictible how games over-all would go once we got past the all-in / rush stage
dont believe me?
WoL TvP : Only 2 ways this match up went and terran didnt get a say in it
Terran main army comp is MMM and it only changed based off of there opponant, Protoss went Colus your forced into Vikings, They go templar your forced into Ghosts
only thing that wasnt predictible was the skill levels of said players / how good there micro was so Templar vs Ghosts i dunno whos micro is better but i 100% know how the match is going to be played out pretty much
Modern day RTS games tend to fail coz there not realy RTS games, sure there is skill in micromanagement but the over-all strat becomes predictible after the first month or two, Its All-ins or a set Strat in 1 of like 2 ways depending on opponant and what knock
I Mean hell remeber the newest AoE was hyped to be the next big RTS
fell flat coz predictible / terrible map and bugs and other such things
No Arcade
No Coop
No Campaign
No real Melee system
is going to end a RTS
now its possible to add such things later on but you need to have em
Starship Troopers Terran command has a decent Campaign but nothing eles, Not realy worth looking into much unless your a fan of said series, now they did state they add more in the future what they add not sure ā¦
dont be wrong i like starship troopers but yeah its mostly just a campaign and some scenios but its like meh past that wont do well unless it at least touches the above things dont have to do them all well or even add them all in but its a over-all review score
so
No Arcade? that means you need a great Campaign/Melee System/Coop/vs AI Mode or some such, or over-all great in said 4 catagorys.
