I’ve played strategy games before, but i’m definitely not competitively good or anything. I don’t know how much playing aoe 2 with family and friends against ai translates. I want to say normal, but i wonder if hard wouldn’t be better, or if i’d just get frustrated. Help? input?
Well you delivered us not enough information about your RTS experience overall. Normal is very easy unless you are extremely bad or totally new to RTS games. You played “unknown” hours of AoE2 against AI so you have any RTS experience. Start with Medium difficulty and when it will be still to hard then start again and reduce the difficulty to easy (but I guess it will be ok).

just to get the jist of it i’d suggest normal since SC infantery is quite squishy but for the most part more also more responsive in terms of changing between atttack and move command f.e. so yeah go normal

Start with hard or the camapign will be too easy and will be boring.Once you are better,try it on brutal. Heart of the swarm is so easy you could play it directly on brutal and still being somewhat easy.

i hit diamond on multiple accounts before i played the campaign (HOTS) because playing against other players on a ladder is easier for me than playing plot mode
i had a hell of a good time playing on normal, it allowed me to appreciate the story more instead of having to write build orders or practice campaign specific micro to beat campaign missions
it depends if you want your experience to be on gameplay or plot exploration
if you’re not gonna play the ladder though, maybe do hard or brutal so you don’t think sc2 is way easier than it really is lol
your past games probably help you out a decent bit, as it kinda feels like a 2v2 game, it’s pretty micro intensive at some points and pretty different from the 1v1 ladder stuff (laddering doesn’t really prepare you for the campaign mode, there’s new units and hero micros and it’s like impossible to build a second hatch before 10 minutes on some missions even on faster mode)
if you don’t have good micro i recommend macro hatching as zerg for extra lings/rapid transfusion
Playing against the ai that will adjust it’s difficulty based on your performance may be a good start. Otherwise I’d say start on normal
im pretty sure i played the WoL campaign on normal when i first started. I was something like silver on the ladder
Brutal, always. It will seem easy compared to ladder.
You can change the difficulty mid-campaign. Play what difficulty you want and challenge yourself however much you want. It’s YOU who’s playing the game. If you want it easier, make it easier. If you want it harder, make it harder.
Keep in mind there’s a speed setting in the options menu, which can speed up everything in the missions. Technically doesn’t affect any outcomes, but faster speed=More frantic play = harder (i guess?) but also less waiting around. Versus games are played on the “faster” speed option.
