What is it going to take to not lag? (Not ISP related)

It has been 9 years since the release and after that much time computers have grown in power by a considerable amount. However, Starcraft 2 runs poorly when it comes to dealing with a lot of stuff/units on the map or a bunch of units spawning at once. I can understand there being some sort of lag under extreme circumstances but in general it feels like SC2 is not optimized.

This is not a complaint or personal crusade to give me more FPS. I have read the optimization thread and that is helpful. But the general question I have is:

What hardware will it take to make this game run better? Do I need a server CPU with a bunch of cores? Do I need 3 RTX2080TI? Do I need 128GB of RAM? Do I need 3 petabytes of hard drive space?

I am curious when/what would be required to make this game run better. An example I can give is the map Direct Strike. After about 25 minutes with 6 people in the game with stationary units that spawn your army, combined with all the crap that is happening on the battlefield the game nose dives into a lag fest and turns in to more of a, “who wants to give up first to get out of this lag”?

Once again, I am NOT asking for what is it going to take to run with 60fps on ultra. I am asking. what is it going to take to make this game run more smoothly under all the possible conditions.

I do not have a potato computer (6900k 8 cores overclocked, 1080 16gb ram) but I put all the settings on low except on the terrain just to make it easier and less BS I have to deal with/be annoyed by.

You can always buy a computer from NASA.

pretty sure sc2 only runs on one core and there’s nothing that can be done about it on the user side. Your only real option is to get a better cpu since blizz won’t do anything to fix it.

Yeah, it only uses one core. So you would get the best performance from an overclocked 4 core cpu without hyperthreading since they can probably be pushed higher without temp problems and Hyperthreading might actually decrease Sc2 performance.
To the OP I would suggest turning off hyperthreading if it isn’t already, and perhaps set up your bios so the cpu is tuboboosted higher when only 1-2 cores are in use.

I mainly want Blizzard to optimize their game and let us utilize more powerful hardware so this game doesn’t run like crap. I have this weird feeling that I wont see that until Starcraft 3, that is if that game will ever be released.

Yeah, they’re not going to do a core engine upgrade to a game from 2010. That’s a massive investment for something they’re already “putting out to pasture” to put it kindly.

Not really. Performance of single CPU Core have not increased by that much.
