At least generally speaking. In certain mutations this can change. My list in general:
Stukov P3
Thing that annoys me about this one is that since stukov has to go mass bunkers, it often means walking around is a lot harder with all the space being tanken up. It also doesn’t help this is the most commonly played prestige so it feels stale seeing it.
Tychus
I mostly find Tychus kind of uninteresting. He has some hero units, but these units are spectacles like Dehaka’s hero units. I also find it more interesting fighting with other armies. Also if I am playing on a commander with a weak early game, I feel like dead weight early game since tychus starts off strong. However he does have some great voice lines.
Mengsk on maps with Void Shard Objectives.
Mainly because Mengsk absolutely trivalizes those maps. No need to in there with an army. Just wait for Mengsk to win the game for you.
I don’t mind those scenarios. I’ve played enough that it’s nice to have “more relaxing games”, which are balanced out by “regular ones”.
It’s fun to have Stukov P3 since those types of games are unique in their own ways.
“The flood” does get irksome. Especially on VP when your worker is trying to get to a crystal, or carry a crystal back, and the infested Troopers are making them “go against the wind”.
Fun assist/support activities here include…
Karax taking down Colossi. Stukov P3 could brute force this. Problem is, it’s too slow since all objectives are timed, one way or another. Or OS/Solar Lance cloaked/burrowed units (some Stukov players are lazy about detection)
Swann to have laser drill abilities to take out heavy hitting opposition. Or, selective targets like towers or spell casters.
I like Tychus on very tough Mutations. It gives us a fighting chance. Even on P2, Lone Wolf Tychus ends up walking on eggshells against the wrong mutators. He throws a Shredder Grenade into an attack wave, pew pew pews. Usually, things die about this point. However, they’re still alive, and Tcyhus’ health is going down at a alarming rate. He Medivacs so he’s safe, but can’t attack since the attack wave has detection (and he needs to stay cloaked and unhit to continue healing). So Tychus is effectively out of the fight!
I main Karax, Swann, and Stukov, so it’s nice to assist/support in this case. Here, Karax SoA lasers (especially the Orbital Strike “stun strike”), or Energizers
Swann Science Vessel def. Matrix
Stukov to send infested ahead of Tychus to tank damage while he safely doles it out
For Mengsk on RtK, I just make straight air and focus on the bonus objectives. The 2nd pirate ship is fun to “backdoor”. That said, I have gotten Mengsk allies who did NOT do ESO!
I play Abathur a lot, and as him, I hate having Dehaka as ally, since most of them ignore my toxic nests and just kill enemies without luring them. That significantly delays ultimate evolutions, and as far as I can tell, they just mostly don’t understand how biomass mechanic works for Abathur.
There is a similar scenario being both Abathur and Dehaka on Scythe of Amon with Karax as an ally - they just bombard the void shard - the best source of biomass and essence.
Han Horner - they build up all space around you.
Alarak - annoying play style.
Nova - if she asks or steal my gas without asking. Plus teleport my army without my consent - that’s really should Not be allowed !!!
Sounds about right. When you’re new to Coop and haven’t tried Abathur for yourself (or otherwise been educated on how he works), it’s otherwise generally a good thing for Dehaka to be getting Essence ASAP, or for your allies to start clearing areas.
FWIW, we still get newcomers even this day in age!
I would just communicate that to them. I’ve played with Dehaka and Abby allies thinking they’ll want to farm that, but they end up just destroying it themselves, outright.
It is fun as Karax to have a Dehaka ally since early on, if you can spare the APM, Orbital Strike enemy towers, and help out in other ways. Keeps Dehaka’s health high, lets him take more risks, and dying less means no wasted Drones to revive him (keeping his production at max capacity). Just leave a few units for him to Devour!
yes that happened with me also. Is really bad mecanic, but the fix could be easy: NOVA should teleport only her army!
I do not understand why nobody address that issue also …
Nobody really deservers that unless they are being rude, afk or were deliberately trying to sabotage the game. None of those things happened in my case. We were loosing on the mutation, but I was putting a good faith effort into trying to win.
It’s more about how a commander is played more so than the commander itself. I remember playing as Abathur and while I set up toxic nests, the other player just kills units ahead of my traps. Gets annoying sometimes.
In cheeky situations, I wouldn’t mind either. I once had an ally just move me around several times, which was annoying. But it wasn’t on Vermillion thank god. lol
I was just answering Cat about why people aren’t generally up in arms about it.
I’m guilty of this but it’s because I don’t want to micro dehaka into farming early levels and mess up my build order, it’s better than expanding late or leaving him idle.
If you are playing Dekaka P3 with attack mastery maxed out there is some viability to this. It can help you clear the rocks quicker. But otherwise its usually better to kill enemies.
I’m sure that’s intentional. It’s nice where you need both players to be present, like CoA, or L&L. In general, having both your armies pop in is quite the force multiplier in one!
Mengsk generally.
I just hate his whole Theme and playing with him feels not good.
Terrans and Stettman on the Ascension map with Ji’naara. As I am normally not playing Protoss or Zerg this map is just breakind my suspension of disbelief.
Not really hating but as cool as I find Zeratul, I am prefering to partner with other commanders. I am not hating him per se but most of the time it just feels like Zeratul is playing his own game where the rest of commanders feels like playing together.
